During a summer in Paris, a love triangle develops between three girls in this provocative and perceptive portrait of teen angst and nascent sexuality. The awkward Anne, the bad girl Floriane and the gawky Marie play an intense game of emotional chess as they wrestle with love, friendship and their desire for one another. In this French film, a group of teenage girls reveal that it's not just adults who scheme and plot. WATER LILIES (LA NAISSANCE DES PIEUVRES) is set in the seemingly innocent world of synchronized swimming, where Floriane (Adele Haenel) seduces everyone around her, including late bloomer Marie (Pauline Acquart). Writer-director Celine Sciamma makes her debut with this compelling drama that played at Cannes. Water Lilies Reviews: "Celine Sciamma's absorbing, quietly illuminating WATER LILIES depicts a group of high school students in the throes of coming of age with seriousness and sensitivity."-- Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
This is the only Pauline Acquart video. Stars also making their debut in this video: Louise Blanchere, Adele Haenel, Celine Sciamma. $17.05 David Hamilton is a well-known and controversial photographer, sparking debate because of his aesthetically beautiful images of young women in the nude. Hamilton also made a number of erotic films in the late 1970s and early 1980s using largely the same subject matter, of which SUMMER IN SAN TROPEZ is one. This largely plotless, completely dialogue-less film presents three young women in the south of France, going about their daily lives cleaning, bicycling, sleeping, and generally just enjoying the sunshine and ...

$8.45 Director Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY) pays homage to his favorite B-movies with PLANET TERROR, an old-fashioned zombie film that's infused with enough gore and giggles to please even Peter Jackson (BAD TASTE). Rose McGowan (CHARMED) plays Cherry, a go-go dancer whose night is interrupted by a vicious zombie attack that leaves her missing a leg. Her ex-boyfriend, Wray (Freddy Rodriguez, SIX FEET UNDER), takes charge, fashioning her a new leg from a machine gun and killing zombies along the way. PLANET TERROR plays as a pleasing ode to the horror and exploitation films that once played in grimy grindhouses across the country. ...

Water Lilies video
$10.19 Love is the star of this film from director Robert Benton (KRAMER VS. KRAMER, THE HUMAN STAIN). Bradley (Greg Kinnear) believes in the power and beauty of true love. He's good at falling in love--just with the wrong women. He's hoping that his relationship with sophisticated Diana (Radha Mitchell) will have a happier ending than his first marriage to Kathryn (Selma Blair). Bradley's friend Harry (Morgan Freeman) is happily married to Esther (Jane Alexander), but they are dealing with the loss of a different kind of love. At the same time, Oscar (Toby Hemingway) and Chloe (Alexa Davalos) are busy falling in love at first sight and starting their life together, even though the odds are against them.
In this film, no relationship stone is left unturned, and no relationship is judged. Instead, love in various stages of growth, dissolution, and transformation is explored. From love at first sight to divorce and death, to long-term relationships and affairs, multiple facets of love are seen as what they are: simply a fact of life. Freeman's character, a professor on sabbatical, serves as an elder statesman of sorts, wise enough to notice nuances in relationships the other characters miss. Kinnear is endearing as Bradley, who simply wants to love and be loved. Davalos is someone to watch--she lights up the screen, and Alexander commands every frame in which she appears. Be prepared: this is ...

Water Lilies film
$15.59 HOUNDDOG is writer-director Deborah Kampmeier's controversial story of lost innocence set in rural Alabama in the 1950s. Heavy with the dank, rustic hues of the South, the film is a powerfully vivid and imagistic portrayal of the power of music to overcome the greatest of obstacles. The superbly accomplished child star Dakota Fanning turns in the performance of her career as Lewellen, a tomboy who finds escape from her life with a sternly religious grandmother (Piper Laurie) and a brutish, alcoholic father (David Morse) with her dreams of singing with her idol, Elvis Presley. Lewellen's best friend, Buddy (Cody Hanford), reveals that Elvis will be performing in their town, and the pair scheme to see the show. Before long, Lewellen's guileless impersonations of Elvis's provocative, hip-swiveling "Hounddog" become misconstrued, and she becomes a victim of the lecherous advances of an older teen with promises of a concert ticket. While HOUNDDOG occasionally gets heavy-handed with Biblical ...

$10.29 Director Bruce Beresford's abiding fascination with the clash of cultures is apparent in this adaptation of Brian Moore's novel of a Jesuit missionary who leaves France in 1634 to bring the word of Jesus to the Huron tribe of rugged northern Quebec. The film, which stars Lothaire Bluteau as LaForgue, casts aside the revisionist notion of the Native American as an enlightened being, ...

Water Lilies movie DVD
$7.95 Five years after the last episode of I LOVE LUCY, Lucille Ball returned to television with THE LUCY SHOW in 1962. THE LUCY SHOW featured the redhead comedienne as a recently widowed working mom, in some ways mirroring her real-life situation after her divorce from Desi Arnaz. While never as overwhelmingly popular as her earlier show, THE LUCY SHOW was still a success, garnering top-ten Nielsen ratings for most of its six-season run. Unlike many programs, production of the show was shut down voluntarily by Ball after she was forced to sell Desilu studios and no longer wanted to be involved with something she did not have total control over. THE LUCY SHOW boasted numerous guest appearances by stars friendly with Ball and her ex-husband, including fellow television comedians Milton Berle, George Burns, and heir-apparent Carol Burnett. More of Ball's madcap comic adventures are presented in this collection of 20 episodes.
