German jazz singer Willi Johanns evidently attracted the notice of a few critics during the early 1960s, though this compilation of recording sessions from between 1987 and 2002 represent only the second release under his name (since he had a fulltime career outside of music until retiring in 1999), nearly a half-century after his recording debut as a leader. Gifted with an expressive, conversational voice that has a slight nasal sound, Johanns is joined by the RTS Big Band on the first eight selections, with trumpeter Dusko Goykovich being a prominent soloist on both dates.
