With quite a few of the '80s-era glam-metal acts trying to come back with completely different approaches and styles come the 21st century, Chicago power pop vets Enuff Z'nuff continue to specialize in what they do best. And as evidenced by such latter-day releases as 2002's Welcome to Blue Island, they can still whip up a Beatlesque melody with no problem. The group continues to be led by the underrated songwriting duo of Donnie Vie and Chip Znuff, whose pop sensibilities are still keen on such standout tracks as "Good Times (Are Hard to Find)" and the upbeat ditty "Zentemental Journey" (which is preceded by a sitar-heavy Middle Eastern piece, "Z Overture," which is equal parts "Kashmir" and "Within You Without You"). For the hardcore fan, try to find the import version of Welcome to Blue Island, which includes four bonus tracks -- one being a surprise cover of Nirvana's "All Apologies" (after all, this was the same band that was almost single-handedly responsible for preventing the glam-metal scene from infesting any further). ~ Greg Prato
Recorded at Star Trax, Crestwood, Illinois and Chicago Recording Company, Chicago, Illinois.

Welcome To Blue Island music CDs
$13.59 The third studio album from Canadian arena rockers Three Days Grace treads familiar ground, presenting 12 slabs of the kind of reliable, accessible, and serviceable hard rock that will always have an audience. 2006's ONE-X dealt heavily with vocalist Adam Gontier's personal demons, a theme that continues on LIFE STARTS NOW, albeit with a hint of sunlight. With a sound that lands somewhere in between Breaking Benjamin, Collective Soul, and Godsmack--Gontier sounds like a less volatile Trent Reznor--LIFE STARTS NOW treats the well-worn metal themes of anger, isolation, heartache, and redemption ...
| | Metallica Death Magnetic CD (2008)
Welcome To Blue Island songs
$15.65 In the five years between the two releases, Metallica seem to have gotten back in touch with the raw power of their classic period, with a little help from legendary producer Rick Rubin. One listen to the 10-minute epic "Suicide & Redemption" with its mix of raw rock ferocity and complex musical development should tell you the old Metallica's back in business. Long tracks with complex structures and intricate, speedy riffs abound. Most appealing for longtime fans may be the return to the frenzied guitar solos of yore. Rubin seems to have assisted the band on a path that successfully combines power, melodicism, and pure, unadulterated metal mania, over a sonic statement that definitively proves there's nothing over-the-hill ...
| | Slayer Reign In Blood CD (1986)
Welcome To Blue Island album
$9.59 Slayer's major-label debut remains one of the most brutal metal albums ever recorded, uncompromising in its extremes; ironically, it's their mainstream breakthrough release. Infusing its thrash sound with a hardcore-punk influence, the cacophonous quartet shifts from supernatural terror to real-life horrors with shorter songs such as "Necrophobic" and "Postmortem". The change is most notable on the gruesome depiction of Nazi butcher Josef Mengele on the frenzied epic "Angel of Death". Only the apocalyptic closing number, "Raining Blood," hearkens back to the semi-melodic Slayer style from SHOW NO MERCY and HELL AWAITS.
Throughout its short running time (28 minutes, an EP even by 1980s standards), the Rick Rubin-produced REIGN IN BLOOD ...

Welcome To Blue Island songs
$17.55 Spreading across a bonus-stacked reissue of their one and only album, and a six-track DVD of their promotional films, Nobody's Business emerge from this package sounding like the best band you've never heard of. One more in the long line of solid funk-rock bands led by onetime Procol Harum man Bobby Harrison, Nobody's Business pick up precisely where Snafu left off, with pulsating bass, contagious keys, and irresistible rhythms -- and one can only speculate why America didn't enfold them to its musical heart, especially when one remembers that bassist Tony Stevens was still relatively fresh from Foghat. Well, the fact that Nobody's Business was only released in Japan probably didn't help them, so the 2007 reissue isn't simply the album's CD debut, it's the Western premiere as well, the full original album plus a three-song demo that they recorded later in the year, ...

Welcome To Blue Island CD music
$14.59 Omnium Gatherum are without question one of the most inspiring modern melodic death metal groups around. The re-edition of their debut LP - 'Spirits And August Light', enriched with the EP 'Steal The Light', brings a powerful dose of death metal brutality coupled with beautiful and enchanting melodies. 'Spirits And August Light' was released after a long wait in April 2003. The album featured all the best elements of the group's style, forged throughout the years into perfection. Right from the opening track 'Writhen', the LP explodes with a flood of brutal guitar ...
