| | Dominic Bakewell Monkey Shoes CD Dominic Bakewell Discography of CDs
Dominic Bakewell, a stay-at-home dad, has been playing music and writing songs for over 30 years and recently turned to writing children's songs after the birth of his son. His alternative pop rock style has been carried into his children's music. The multi-instrumentalist began playing at house parties as a teenager with his friends and then played the Los Angeles club scene in various bands. He released his first children's album, Monkey Shoes, which many say is sure to be a classic. The CD has catchy, melodic and smart songs with great beats that kids and parents will love. A Parents' Choice Approved Award Review:A stay-at-home dad who has been playing music and writing songs for 30+ years and only recently turned to children's music after the birth of his son, Dominic Bakewell infuses his alternative rock roots into the original acoustic tracks on his debut album. As a first effort, there is much to like. Kids are sure to enjoy catchy sing-a-longs such as "I Like Trucks," "Monkey Shoes" and "Choo Choo Train" while adults will appreciate "Go Away Mr. Rain," "Mama's Sweet Milk" and "Mama's Song," songs written more about children than for them. With a pleasant, strong voice and a melodic approach to the guitar, this debut album is a solid first step on the path of quality children's music.Lahri Bond ©2008 Parents' ChoiceL.A. Parent Review Jan 2009. Suggesting a slightly less poppy Jack Johnson, L.A.-based Bakewell makes simple, strummy music geared for preschoolers and their parents. He delivers “dad” tunes “I Like Trucks” and “Choo Choo Train,” as well as shout-outs to moms (“Mama’s Sweet Milk” and “Mama’s Song”). Other notable tunes on this low-key but impressive disc are the title track (his own version of a nursery rhyme) and his guitar fingerwork on the fan- ciful “Gonna Tell You A Story.” Michael Berick Monkey Shoes Music | Category | Children's Albums | | Label | CD Baby | | CD Universe Part number | 7699996 | | Catalog number | 194561 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | May 27, 2008 |

$13.69 Strange Folk is an enjoyable if genuinely spaced-out 19-song collection, all representative of a body of English folkies from across four decades who didn't care one whit about maintaining traditions or otherwise adhering to rules. Not surprisingly, Donovan (doing "The Song of the Wandering Aengus" from HMS Donovan), Pentangle, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Vashti Bunyan, Barry Dransfield, the Incredible String Band, and Forest will be the most familiar names here, their work comprising the most accessible tracks on this CD -- others are of more recent vintage, including the psychedelic-folk ensemble the Espers, and the progressive folk/electronica-based septet Tunng (utilizing some more calculated studio- and ...
