Quicksilver Messenger Service: John Cipollina, Gary Duncan, Greg Elmore, David Freiberg.
If the quintessential San Francisco Sound is defined by lengthy improvised guitarwork and near-telepathic interplay, then HAPPY TRAILS crystallizes the genre on record. Extemporizing mightily two Bo Diddley songs ("Who Do You Love" and "Mona," the quartet introduces new realms of expression to rock music. Guitarists John Cipollina and Gary Duncan offer contrasting textures and sound, goading each other to greater heights. Largely recorded live in concert, HAPPY TRAILS encapsulates an era of experimentation, employing images that embodied the outlaw chic of the hippie subculture. Its strengths are not, however, bound to that era; the album's mesmerizing power remains as true as ever. The George Hunter cover painting is also indispensible.

Happy Trails album
$6.09 This newly remastered 2003 deluxe edition contains bonus tracks.
Originally released on RCA Victor (3766). Includes liner notes by Jeff Tamarkin and Bill Thompson.
From the opening, hard-edged chords of "She Has Funny Cars," it's apparent that SURREALISTIC PILLOW, Jefferson Airplane's sophomore effort, is a far more spiky beast than the band's debut. It became not only San Francisco's soundtrack to the Summer Of Love, but all of America's. It spawned two Top Ten classics ("Somebody To Love" and "White Rabbit") and established the Airplane as one of the main pop voices of the cultural revolution.
Some of the newfound dynamism can be attributed to personnel changes. Singer-keyboardist Grace Slick, who joined the Airplane following a stint in the mildly successful Great Society, had a unique artistic gleam her predecessor, Signe Anderson, ...

Happy Trails CD music
$7.59 Also available in a 3-pack with SECOND WINTER and CAPTURED LIVE.
Among white blues singers of the 1960s, there were some who studied the music so intently they amazed even the genre's creators with their technical mastery. A select few, however, seemed to be born oozing authenticity, sounding just as soulful as the greatest black bluesmen while forging a completely new sound. Johnny Winter belonged in the second category. A long-haired hippie albino, he astounded initially skeptical listeners with his Howlin' Wolf-like vocals and wild Johnny Guitar Watson-esque guitar stylings. THE WOODSTOCK EXPERIENCE showcases Winter's first taste of national exposure, first with his 1969 self-titled debut album, and then with his set at the Woodstock festival later the same year. The latter ...

Happy Trails songs
$9.35 Bradd Spitt, an ice-cold untamed talent from Inglewood, CA, was heavily influenced by hip hop legends like Souls of Mischief, Ice Cube, Easy- E, Dr Dre, Ludracris and Jay-Z. Bradd Spitt was interested in building a musical empire and a classic sound that would allow him to express his knowledge and love for music as well as his life experiences. He created a new genre of music which combines hip hop and goth. "My music makes you realize how dark's the new light, ugly's the new pretty and poor's the new rich." As a male solo artist, Bradd Spitt created a great following throughout ...

| | 21ST Impact By All Means Necessary-Second To None CD (2008) (Import)
Happy Trails CD music
$14.29 The seed to The 21st Impact was planted in early 1995 when 5 friends (Daniel Mohlén - Vocals, Ronnie Nyman - Bass, Robert Andersson - Guitars, Jonny Mattson - Guitars & Magnus Ingels - Drums) formed the band Peal. After a couple of demos, the release of an EP on local D.I.Y. label Bleck Records and a great number of gigs during a 2 year period, the band slowly began to dissolve. After the split the members started to venture out into new musical constallations until finally reuniting in 1999, this time without Robert and with Petro Holmgren joining on bass. And so, Ronnie could finally make the switch to playing guitar, his main instrument. The goal was to play hardcore in the same vein as Sick Of It All, Biohazard and Madball. After recording 2 demos and playing a countless number of gigs throughout Sweden, they rightfully earned the reputation of being an energetic live-act. During 2000 Jonny decided to leave the band to concentrate on studies and the obvious choice for replacement, original Peal-guitarist Robert Andersson, joined the band. At a gig in Lulea, Sweden supporting Raised Fist they got to talk to Raised Fist-singer Alle who had contacts at Freedumb Records in Canada, which led to a record deal. In September 2002 The 21st Impact released the album "Second To None" (Freedumb Records), consisting of 10 songs from their previous 2 demos in Canada only. By the end of 2002 bass player Petro felt it was time to move on, and so Matte W Jarnil (previously in Crawley, Lost Souls) joined the band.During 2003 the band focused on writing new songs for the next album and playing various gigs and in sept-oct 2003 they did a 6-week coast to coast tour of Canada supporting Raised Fist. 2004 started off in E.A.R studios, Uppsala-Sweden, recording the next demo titled, "By all means, Necessary". It was recorded ...

| | Michael Penn Sunshine Cleaning CD (2009) Original Soundtrack
Happy Trails CD music
$14.09 Although Michael Penn has some film scores on his résumé (Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, The Anniversary Party, American Teen, The Last Kiss), he remains better known as a folk/rock/pop singer/songwriter, and it's easy to see why on the basis of his music for Sunshine Cleaning, a quirky drama/comedy about two sisters who start a business cleaning up crime scenes. Penn has employed a small string section and the occasional horn to flesh out his cues, but the basic instrumentation is well within the folk/pop/rock mode, and the tracks for the most part simply sound like demos for his next singer/songwriter record, albeit ones he hasn't yet finished with fully fledged song structures, melodies, and lyrics. An uncredited voice that no doubt is the composer can even be heard wordlessly humming and singing "na-na-na" and "doot-doot-doot" here and there as ...
