Based on 3 short stories by Isaac Bashevis Singer, this film braids fiction, fantasy, and autobiography into a bittersweet comedy-drama pitting the self-renewing power of male ego and libido against the inevitable physical decline of age. Though a anchored in a long-time relationship with Reisel (Rhea Perlman), octogenarian author Max Kohn (Otto Tausig) uses his frequent book tours as opportunities to let erotic imagination take flight. There are fantasy flings with a needy widow (Caroline Aaron) and a Cuban housekeeper (Elizabeth Pena), which give way to a real-life encounter with a former student (Barbara Hershey) and a painful interlude (Tovah Teldsuh). Jan Schutte directs. This drama interweaves three short stories by Nobel Prize-winning writer Isaac Bashevis Singer, with Austrian actor Otto Tausig in the lead as Max Kohn. He's an aging writer who hasn't lost his sense of romance or adventure--which frequently lands him into trouble! Barbara Hershey appears as one of the elder statesman's former students. Love Comes Lately Reviews: "[U]ltimately disarming. Blending three short stories by Nobel laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer, the filmmaker Jan Schutte may well have made a minor classic..."-- Nathan Lee, New York Times

Love Comes Lately DVD
$7.95 Set in Texas in the 1950s, SECONDHAND LIONS tells the touching story of Walter (Haley Joel Osment), a shy teenager sent to stay with two estranged uncles for the summer. Various rumors surround the two uncles (played by Robert Duvall and Michael Caine), mostly because the duo have only recently resurfaced into family life after 40 years spent carrying out misdeeds and illicit activities. The one fact about the men, of which Walter's mom is only too aware, is that they appear to be extremely wealthy, having stashed over one million dollars in cash at an undisclosed location. After initially balking at Walter's inherent shyness and nervous disposition, the two men soon warm to the child, and proceed to tell him some incredible tales of their adventures.

| | Diminished Capacity
Love Comes Lately video
Colorful family dysfunction is the order of the day in this ramshackle indie road comedy that travels along the LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE/FLIRTING WITH DISASTER route. Adapted by Sherwood Kiraly from his comic novel, DIMINISHED CAPACITY is about Chicago reporter Cooper (Matthew Broderick), who has short-term memory loss as the result of a concussion. He goes home to Missouri to check on his senile Uncle Rollie (Alan Alda) who has--among other nutty ideas--a system for getting the fish in the lake near the ancestral homestead to write poetry. Virginia Madsen is Charlotte, the girl next door who stayed behind to marry some knucklehead when Cooper moved away--and now sparks rekindle. Everyone gets together for a road trip to Chicago, where Uncle Rollie plans to sell a priceless baseball card at a sports memorabilia convention. Stealing the movie outright is Dylan Baker as a tightly wound ...
| | Fear(S) Of The Dark DVD (2008) Subtitled
Love Comes Lately film
$14.79 As a storyteller, H.P. Lovecraft might have felt a tad shortchanged by this film's relative lack of tentacled beasts. As a literary critic, he would've delighted in the superficially stark, effectively visceral topography of FEAR(S) OF THE DARK, an animated French-language film that extends into modern media the exact anatomical lines of latent anxiety that were drawn by the supernatural-minded painters of the 19th century and burbled in the physiology known by Edgar Allan Poe. In a feat all the more remarkable by virtue of the fact that the movie is a collaborative showcase of six different drawing and animation styles, provocative in their very mutations, FEAR(S) manages to escape the seemingly inherent horror-anthology fate of adding up to an uneven tone. Rather than a campfire patchwork, it's an omnibus of inexplicable internal unease, ...

Love Comes Lately DVD
Renowned writer/director Darezhan Omirbaev (KILLER, CARDIOGRAM) brings his supremely minimalist eye to this modern adaptation of ANNA KARENINA. Set in Kazakhstan, the film follows the somber journey of the beautiful Chouga (Ainur Turgambayeva), who travels southward from Astana to Almaty for family business. There she finds herself targeted by the wealthy Tiburon, who has lost out on his chance at love with another beautiful young woman. The trouble for Chouga is that she's married, and has ...

Love Comes Lately movie DVD
Alternately entertaining and meditative, director Josh Koury's WE ARE WIZARDS is an appealing documentary about the power of the Harry Potter series over the creative process----and the battles that sometimes result. WE ARE WIZARDS's primary focus is how the books and movies have inspired fans to create their own universe of Harry Potter-related work. Most notable among these fan pursuits is the emergence of a music genre knows as "wizard rock." These tribute bands range in style and degree of success, from the two nerdish masterminds behind the popular Harry and the Potters to the more eclectic attitudes ...

Love Comes Lately video
$14.59 A band of rosy-cheeked children go on a rampage in this British horror flick from director Tom Shankland. The film opens with Elaine (Eva Birthistle) bringing her husband, Jonah (Stephen Campbell Moore), and their three children to celebrate New Year's with her sister Chloe (Rachel Shelley). Chloe is married with two children of her own, and her family lives in a gorgeous cabin set deep in the woods. Soon the cozy home is filled with scampering kids and Casey (Hannah Tointon), Elaine's sullen teenager. As the families reunite and settle in, hidden tensions and secret flirtations pass back and forth between every one 16 and older, while the children shriek and play. When Elaine's son Paulie (William Howes) gets sick, she chalks it up to car sickness, but by the next day, he appears to be worse. Soon the other children begin to act strangely as well. When a fatal accident occurs, everything falls into chaos, and accusations fly ...
