| | Yardbirds Greatest Hits Vol. 1: 1964-1966 CD Yardbirds Discography of CDs
Recorded from March 1964 to February 1966. Includes liner notes by Parke Puterbaugh.
In just a a few short years, the Yardbirds made gigantic evolutionary leaps and laid down the groundwork for much of what would follow. This collection captures both the band's raw, blues-hound side--hear them pretty much invent British blues-rock with covers of Howlin' Wolf's "Smokestack Lightning" and Billy Boy Arnold's "I Wish You Would"--and their forward-looking psych-pop side ("Shapes of Things" and "Heart Full of Soul"). Nearly every U.K. rock band of the '60s owed a debt to the tunes collected here.
Compilation producers: Bill Inglot, Gary Stewart.
The Yardbirds: Keith Relf (vocals, harmonica); Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Chris Dreja (guitar); Paul Samwell-Smith (bass); Jim McCarty (drums).
Producer: Giorgio Gomelsky.

Yardbirds Greatest Hits Vol. 1: 1964-1966 album
$8.15 Few would dispute that this collection is the Holy Grail of blues harmonica. Like the other entries in Chess Records' HIS BEST series, the Little Walter compilation is beautifully selected, sequenced, remastered, and packaged. At 20 tracks, HIS BEST gives a satisfying, economical summary of Walter's genius, and defends his title as the king of blues harp men. As a member of Muddy Waters's band, and on his own, Walter was one of the architects of the original Chicago sound. His propulsive chording, high-leaning notes, inventive use of amplification (he used a close-up hand-held microphone and effects ...

Yardbirds Greatest Hits Vol. 1: 1964-1966 songs
$14.38 The latest album from Swedish doom rockers Katatonia, their first studio effort since 2006, is as moody and beautiful as their other latter-day work. The group's career can be marked in two stages based on the condition of singer Jonas Renske's vocal cords -- basically, after the band's first two albums, he developed health ...

Yardbirds Greatest Hits Vol. 1: 1964-1966 songs
$9.89 One probably doesn't hear the name Gloria Coleman thrown around quite as often as other organists of the day. Similarly, the Impulse! label wasn't particularly known as a home for organ combos, but perhaps that's what makes this title the underappreciated gem that it is. Soul Sisters, in retrospect, would have probably made more sense as a Blue Note release, as it has much more in common with sessions like Freddie Roach's Good Move or John Patton's Along Came John than much of the Impulse! catalog. There are a couple of reasons for this. First of all, though they both worked for other labels as well, guitarist Grant Green ...
