| Live Bootleg Series Volume 3 Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Riff-surfing at it's finest! The Johnny Winter Bootleg Series,(Vol. 1, 2 & 3) is an example of Johnny at his finest, live. These recordings have been culled from his private collection of live performances going back decades. The chosen selections show Johnny with all the fire and passion he is capable of. The endless supply of improvised riffs is mind boggling. It confirms why I have been a big fan for 35 years,(not that I needed reminding.) And, contrary to popular belief, if you had fun in the seventies you can remember it, especially the Johnny Winter shows.

Fantastic! This is one HOT CD!
The solo on Boothill is INSANE!
The acoustic cut "Stones in my
Pathway" is as authentic as Robert Johnson's original. It's worth it alone
just for those 2 cuts but then when
you listen to "I Smell Trouble"....
your head will be spinning in amazement.
This is one heck of an example of Johnny's great legacy. Man alive! Submitted by scot.clark (Ardmore, AL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 2 found this helpful.
Bootleg Series Incredible! Voice, guitar, bass, drums, energy all top notch. I listen to all types of music and never for a moment can Johnny Winter be accused of not having it all flow together. Top notch playing. Submitted by simons (Naperville, IL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Live Bootleg Series Volume 3 songs
$9.89 NORTHERN WINDOWS PLUS contains 2 LPs on 1 CD: PLAYIN' IN THE YARD (1973)/NORTHERN WINDOWS (1974).
This CD reissue combines two complete albums by Hampton Hawes from the early '70s. Unfortunately, neither one of these sessions has stood the test of time all that well. While Hawes is accompanied by electric bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Kenny Clarke during his 1973 trio set at Montreux (first issued as Playin' in the Yard), he spends much of the time playing electric piano. He plays Sonny Rollins' "Playin' in the Yard" but incorporates the acoustic piano into other portions of his live set. The latter session includes the spiritual "Go Down Moses" and five originals; players include trumpeter Snooky Young and trombonist George Bohanon. ~ Ken Dryden

| | Darryl ST John War Of Blue CD (2008)
Live Bootleg Series Volume 3 album
$13.15 Darryl St. John first picked up a guitar at age 21. From this early experimentation with a Gretsch Tennessean, he has made an unforgettable imprint on the local music scene. An ad posted on the bulletin board at Tech School for a guitarist led to Darryl’s first band, Junction. Part-time shoe salesman and guitarist, Darryl’s first professional gig was on July 4, 1971 in Escanaba, Michigan.A disastrous car accident in April ‘72 put Darryl in the hospital for months, and Junction was disbanded. Released in November, he soon formed another band, Atlantic Mine. After undergoing some renovations, Atlantic Mine found their niche doing covers in the clubs, noted mainly for their Led Zeppelin repertoire. During this time, they also began introducing some of Darryl’s original songs. The band developed a friendly rivalry with Cheap Trick and often played the same venues until a series of personal tragedies among the band members forced them to disband in November ‘77.A period of serious introspection after the breakup of Atlantic Mine convinced Darryl that a move to New York City was the next step in his career. He and a vocalist friend, however, were defeated by the explosive punk rock bands that had recently overwhelmed the New York music scene, and he returned to the Midwest and retired from music for 3 years. He ended this hiatus by playing with the band Metamorphosis, and was soon back into the groove of being a professional musician.A musician’s search in ’83 teamed Darryl up with a drummer from New Orleans and Tears was formed, complete with keyboards, doing 80’s covers and some originals. In ‘85, Darryl was offered a job with Dazed & Confused, a new Led Zeppelin tribute band from Milwaukee. He left Dazed & Confused in ’86 to form local band Red Light Fright. In ‘89 Darryl moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and created a name for himself at the clubs playing jams. His talent and unique style attracted the attention of Neal Schon, Steve Perry, Peter Tork, Ronnie Montrose and Davey Pattison, among ...
