"What works for the snowy trio can be found in the opener to their EP, “Sally Looks Like God.” What begins is an echo-laden guitar bellowing a buildup in which drummer Charlie Henschen’s hypnotic trance beat and Daniel Sheron’s ferocius guitar clash together like two titans sharing a six-pack. The tones and drums remind me of an early Nirvana/Silverchair combination meeting The Faint. The dance grooves are there, courtesy of bass player Charlie Freundlich’s contrapuntal basslines. Garage rock and dance rock meet in the middle and The Dead Jettsons craft both genres flawlessly...Other influences that come through the speakers include The White Stripes and early Soundgarden. This is the type of music that makes people feel proud to wear flannel and grow a beard."--Jay Ziegler--Consequence of SoundWhat Future? is the distillation of 2 years of collaboration between Dan Sheron, Charlie Freundlich, and Charlie Henschen, a collection of thoughtfully crafted songs for your listening pleasure Dead Jettsons What Future? $3.99 The finest example of perfect disco pop, and a record that should be prescribed to musical snobs and manic depressives. The album is a true ambassador of what pop music can be. What Future? EP
$13.14 Dutch pomp-metal band Epica, fronted by classically trained mezzo-soprano Simone Simons, released their second album for Nuclear Blast only a year after their label debut, the more unique The Classical Conspiracy. That two-disc live set found them performing a mix of classical works and their own songs with backing by a full orchestra and choir. This album offers more of their bombastic goth metal songs, with Simons' vocals floating atop an ever flowing stream of complicated drumming, ...

| | Andi Starr Supergirl CD (2005)
What Future? EP
$9.69 Way back when, before singer/songwriter Andi Starr was even born, there was a smash hit TV show featuring Marlo Thomas as "That Girl." Around the same time period there was the pop hit by the Seekers, "Georgie Girl." The mid nineties featured a movie cult classic "Tank Girl." Now fast forward to present day, subtract a boat load of corporate cash, Hollywood hype and bean counting entertainment executives and we have "Supergirl," an Independent release by Portland artist Andi Starr.Somewhere between Joni Mitchell's "Blue" and Jill Sobule's "Happy Town" you'll hear Andi's "Supergirl." Her ability to hem quirky, dreamy hooks with acoustic folk flavors and story telling makes this indie release a must have. Like a good set up pitcher, this release sets the stage for her musical future. The five songs on "Supergirl" seems to absorb itself into your heart. I am impressed by her ability to share her hopes, fears, sorrows and pleasures with simple lyric and melody. She casts her emotions out to sea and opens a window with a clear view into her soul, paying no mindto pretentious radio pop formulas. My favorite cut, "Denver" explains an early marriage without direction."We fell in love, got married, unwrapped our empty gifts of shame. Then we made love to our reflectionsonly to find ourselves alone again."Andi Starr is a classically trained pianist with a masters degree in psychology. Her first effort "American Doll" was part of her thesis in her master's program. Her second release "Me Beautiful" was a best-seller on ...
