| | Horde Hellig Usvart: 10th Anniversary Edition CD (2007)
Just As I Am music CDs
$15.09 10th Anniversary Edition of this absolute classic - includes bonus track and new layout. The one Black Metal CD, The CD that started the Christian Black Metal scene together with Antestor. This CD has a very interesting story, but I will not write down it here. The only thing really worth mentioning is that this CD is a one man project by the drummer Anonymous. The music here is some of the most primitive and raw Black Metal out there. It starts of with 'A Church Bell Tolls Amidst the Frozen Nordic Winds'. It is about 1 minute with a church bell tolling with some windy sounds. Not really a song, but it works fine as intro. Then the grimness begins!Musically, this Horde delivers old-school raw Black Metal the way it was intended to be played, in the vein of old Mayhem and Dark throne. No keyboard or clean singing here, and I am not complaining. I have even read on a secular board that Horde "has got an evil feeling that Dimmu Borgir & co can only dream of', which I guess tells a lot about the atmosphere on this 'Hellig Usvart'. The second track, 'Blasphemous Abomination of the Satanic Pentagram' is a Grind-Black track, not really a song either, but very aggressive. The third track, 'Behold, the Rising Scarlet Moon is' is the first 'real' song on this CD. It is a mid paced song, with some faster parts, although I must say this is the least interesting song. Next comes 'Thine Hour Hast Come', which is one of my favorite songs. It has a sort of 'violent' feel about it. The screams on this song are amazing. I dare say that Anonymous has one of the best black metal vocals ever, along with Vrede of Antestor, and Jokull of Frosthardr. The lyrics deal with the falling of Lucifer, taken from Isaiah 14:12-15. Next is 'Release and Clothe the Virgin Sacrifice', another blasting song. The sixth song, 'Drink From the Chalice of Blood', is another of my favorite tracks. It has a catchy intro, but it does not make it stupid in any way. The drumming in this song is outstanding. This is also the only song focusing on Jesus Christ. 'Silence the Blasphemous Chanting' is quite similar to track #5, but it has a nice tranquil acoustic guitar outro, very beautiful. 'Invert the Inverted Cross' is another amazing track. Some people would say that the lyrics are quite cheesy on this one, but personally, I like them very much. 'Christ stormed the gates of hellto take the keys thereofnow the keys of death and hadesbelong to the eternal onehell awaits the demonic forceswho seek to prevert the crossflaming hellfire destructionis their final dwelling place"Powerful stuff if you ask me. "An Abandoned Grave Bathes Softly in the Moonlight" starts with some amazing guitars and a very powerfull melody. 'Crush the Bloodied Horns of the Goat' used to be one of my least favorite tracks on this CD, but it ...
| | Dialogues CD (2003)
Just As I Am songs
$16.45 Dialogues is a disc of completely improvised music using melodic and rhythmic motifs from which to build improvisations. With the influence of Indian music, ambient, the ECM sound and free jazz, Dialogues has a "world" music quality while remaining on the cutting edge. The title track is reminiscent of 20th Century classical music and "Spontraneous" is a unique collage of themes by John Coltrane. The music on this CD is fine example of the sensitivity required to create improvised music that sounds pre-composed."Dialogues elaborates on an ordered, harmonious cosmos...These guys expand the concept of world music to take in aural concepts from the other side of the sun, and they do it in a way that seduces the senses." - Frank Rubolino, All About JazzBand Bios:Mark Merella - percussionMark Merella is a percussionist adept at both drum set and and hand percussion.
