Dayton, Ohio's Hawthorne Heights have had a tumultuous history. They experienced a huge success straight out of the gate with their first album,THE SILENCE IN BLACK & WHITE, but after the release of their second, they suffered the loss of guitarist/vocalist Casey Calvert, who died at the age of 26. Soldiering on in the wake of that tragedy, their tellingly titled third album, FRAGILE FUTURE, finds the band progressing but still holding on to their core musical values.
While it's hard not to read some of the band's personal travails into lyrics about "all the friends that you have lost" ("The Business of Paper Stars"), the absence of Calvert affects the band sonically as well; without his occasional roaring vocal interjections between JT Woodruff's highly melodic vocals, the screamo element is removed from the band's emo sound. If anything, the softer and harder sides of their approach meet in the middle more than ever before, offering a more balanced feel instead of segregating the quiet songs from the rockers. Nevertheless, the band continues to fuse rock, punk, pop, and emo, displaying unbridled energy and an undeniable sense of purpose as they move ahead into their FRAGILE FUTURE.
Hawthorne Heights: Matt Ridenour, Eron Bucciarelli, Micah Carli, J.T. Woodruff.
Audio Mixer: Jeff Schneeweis.
Alternative Press (p.158) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Hawthorne's sound has pushed beyond screamo-pop into strong guitar rock, with 'Disaster' possessing a Jimmy Eat World-esque vibe." Hawthorne Heights Fragile Future Songs Fragile Future Music Review Average Rating: (2.5 out of 5 stars) Yeah!! i agree. they are still awesome,

still hawthorne heights. Submitted by spencer (tennessee) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Very different I believe theyve gone soft. I got to admit that the screaming wasnt the best but to eliminate it completely makes the lead singer sound more girlish than ever. Dont get me wrong, this is a good CD if you havent heard their previous albums, but for me the heaviness was what I liked about them and now theyre more of the same emo bands around. Listen to 'Silver Bullet' from an earlier album and then listen to any song from this one and youll see what i mean Submitted by kevolones (Pnc, PR) Was This Review Helpful? Too soft I personally dont like this album and im a big Hawthorne Heights fan. their previous albums sounded alot harder and thats what i liked about them. this new album sounds very "pop" rather than "screamo/emo" Submitted by Kenny (Philadelphia, PA) Was This Review Helpful? | | Carl Stone Nak Won CD (2003)
Fragile Future
$19.49 Nak Won is a major addition to Carl Stone's discography. Released in late 2002 by the French label Sonore, it presents three pieces performed in real time on a laptop computer running Max/MSP software and recorded in various locations on the West Coast. A demanding program, possibly Stone's most uncompromising album to date, Nak Won is nevertheless highly rewarding. The title track, 24 minutes long, could have you a little worried at first. It starts like one of Sachiko M's sine-wave pieces. Arid at first, it slowly grows as the tones get chopped up and thrown around into the stereo field. A lush ...
