BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing to whatever is needed in a given track. His manner of coloring sounds inside and around a particular tune's framework is a large part of what makes Gov't Mule's sound so fresh here - despite the fact that they don't stray far from what they do best. The East Ash Street Band is an American Jam Rock outfit that brings a full audio and visual world to life before your eyes. Transcending genres from over a century of music that soothes your mind and moves your body. With a love for songs, lyrics and extended jams they bring the grooves of funk, blues, reggae, rock, country and psychedelica together, along with a liquid light show, to inspire a variety of different crowds, young and old, too bring their dancing shoes. Pushing their total number of live shows past 300 last year (2007), the East Ash St. Band played stages at national festivals for the first time including the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival in Lawrence, KS, Dogstock in Melvern, KS, and Columbia, MO’s first annual Roots n’ Blues Festival, drawing over 60,000 fans to one of the Midwest’s most promising new independent music scenes.Following the release of their first full-length studio album (2008), The World Keeps On Spinning, East Ash continues to tour heavily, relying on a loyal regional following while hosting weekly live music events in Columbia and earning a return spot at this year’s Wakarusa Festival. In addition they returned to headline The Mushroom Festival and received the opportunity to play at The Blue Bird Music Festival. They have pushed their total show count close to 400 and sold over 100 albums since its release in April of 2008 and sell about 5-10 albums a show.
