Neoclassical guitar godfather Yngwie Malmsteen returns to fine form with 2008's PERPETUAL FLAME. Joining the ranks of the Rising Force for this outing are vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens (of Judas Priest/Iced Earth fame) and ex-Dream Theater keyboardist Derek Sherinian. With Malmsteen aptly handling both guitar and bass duties, PERPETUAL FLAME finds the infamous Swede burning up the fretboards with his screaming vibrato, seemingly impossible unison runs, and trademark harmonies.

Yngwie Malmsteen Perpetual Flame Songs Perpetual Flame Music Review Average Rating: (3.2 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews good music and lyrics.......but what is it with the malmsteen production the past 10 plus years???? all his songs sound like there playing on a cruddy cd player from a single speaker from a tin garbage can at 30 feet! i dont get it, why not just have a producer, hes a great songwriter(mostly) and a gifted guitar player, but a producer he IS NOT. worth it for the price and music, production again is pure flat Submitted by rusty (earth) Was This Review Helpful? Really? I would like to hear from all the positive reviewers a few months from now if they are still listening to this album? I always find myself going back to Trilogy, Odyssey, Seventh Sign....This album? I have listened to it for 2 weeks and don't want to ever listen to it again. I have been a Yngwie fan since his 2nd release "Marching Out" and have seen him a total of 6 times live in concert. I even started playing guitar and today that is my profession thanks to Yngwie but...This new album sucks. Period.
The production is horrible, Tim Owens has a fantastic voice but his vocals are overly processed and buried in the mix and the songs just sound like bad leftovers from previous albums. I wanted to give this album another shot and hear the songs live but all I got was Yngwie's even bigger ego, a 2 hour show with 45 minutes of songs and 1 hour and 15 minutes of the same guitar solo repeated, over and over and over again in which all I could hear was Yngwie's guitar and everything else a whisper (vocals included). It was one of the worst concerts I have been to in my lifetime.
He's lost it as far as I am concerned and this album is Yngwie's lowest point. Weak forgettable songs and bad production. Submitted by andrew (Saint Charles, IL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 9 of 14 found this helpful.
One of his best I was hyped about this album when I first got word of it's arrival.
And beleive me it doesnt dissapoint, this is one of his best releases in years. Ripper sounds great and Yngwie is playing better then ever. Submitted by Jim Chenault (Merrillville, IN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 3 of 3 found this helpful.
Marching Back! Well, another record from neo-classical shredder Yngwie Malmsteen finds the man in fine form. If your expecting something different from the man then you haven't been paying attention. Yngwie's new release is another fine product where we find the man doing what he does best. With former Priest/Iced Earth singer Tim Owens about the record has more of a sense of urgency and aggression than the last few records. That said as all Yngwie's vocalists are singing Yngwie's melodies and lyrics,to me they all really sound similar. Though tim brings a power to the vocals not heard since perhaps the Jeff Scott Soto era. Most of thwe songs are fast pace rockers. The production is a little muddy giving the record a heavier feel. Some tracks that stand out to this reviewer are "Death Dealer","Red Devil"(an ode to flying down the open road in his Ferreri).Yngwie again steps behind the mike to sing a song "Magic City".I think his voice is fine for the songs he decides to sing. This one is a mid-paced rocker that is sandwiched between a couple of instrumentalsto form a nice piece of music. All in all another competent out from the man.If you like Yngwie this won't change that and if your not a fan, well it probably won't change that either. Submitted by sbeppel (Pottstown,Pa.) Best Malmsteen in awhile This is the best Malmsteen I've heard ion awhile. He sounds very inspired. Of course the vocals are great with Tim Owens at the helm. It is a much heavier sound than his normal recordings. Submitted by ddbackstrom (Cleveland, Ohio) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 4 of 7 found this helpful.
