December CD (2003) Top Seller
Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970 album for sale One must give the Moody Blues credit for tenacity and a single-pointed focus. For 37 years they've put forth a startlingly consistent series of themes: optimism, a kind of blind-faith spirituality that the universe is in good hands and that people are by and large decent and kind, and love songs that can be a bit twee, but nonetheless connect when one is in the emotional space to hear them. Their music has always been intimate and pretentious in the best sense of the words. December is the Moodies' first Christmas album. The classic lineup has been whittled down to three: John Lodge, Justin Hayward, and Graeme Edge; Ray Thomas decided to call it quitsin 2002. The band is augmented by unofficial member and producer Danilo Madonia in the studio. This is the most curious of Christmas recordings. December is an album about the spirit of Christmas but, with its lack of carols (though it does feature Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" near the end), it sounds more like another chapter in the Moody Blues' legend, and that's exactly what it is. Like many Moody Blues records since the 1980s, the original songs are nostalgic, pointing listeners back to memories of an idyllic past when things were simpler, and toward the hope that social and spiritual renewal are just around the corner. The set features a number of Hayward and Lodge originals, obscure and traditional Anglo folk songs, a transposed piece by Bach, and a cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" -- alas, if only that were true. If you're a fan or a detractor, you already know what the album sounds like. Unpredictability left the band's vocabulary in the 1970s, but that doesn't mean that this collection is without merit. For starters, it is one of the most original Christmas albums you'll hear all year. There is no new age drivel here; its topics and themes are indeed Christian, but weigh on the side of those that are universally held: brotherhood, compassion, hope, goodwill, and generosity. In addition, it's beautifully orchestrated and produced. Its sound is pristine, and Hayward and Lodge with their trademark elegance sound as if they mean every word they write and sing. And it's easy to believe that. It most certainly is sentimental and lush, and has nothing whatsoever to do with rock & roll, but that hardly matters. As the latest Moody Blues album, it likely lives up to fans' expectations; as a holiday recording, it's unlike anything else out there. ~ Thom Jurek

Stephen Stills Just Roll Tape CD (2007)
Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970 buy CD music In fact, the whole night seems designed by the infamously raw producer David Briggs: tracks are brisk, mistakes are kept, the sound is rough, and every song sounds like a first take. And what a string of first takes: "So Begins the Task"--later released on MANASSAS--anticipates the finger-picked bleakness of DEJA VU's "4 & 20"; "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" finds particular starkness as a solo song despite the jubilant open chords; and "The Doctor Will See You Now" holds its own against anything in Young's catalog. While his songwriting and guitar playing are stellar, Stills's voice is equally stunning, with its tender, affecting rasp making an AM weeper like "Helplessly Hoping" sound tough. A rough gem of a listen, but a must-have for any fans of Stills or of Crosby, Stills & Nash.
Over the years since Neil Young's godlike status has grown, it is easy to forget about the jaw-dropping breadth of talent that was Crosby, Stills & Nash, his sometimes former bandmates. Crosby had the silken voice and Nash the impossibly high harmony, but, as the remarkable official bootleg JUST ROLL TAPE: April 26th 1968 proves, Stephen Stills was a complete talent as a singer, writer, and guitarist. Reportedly recorded in one long take after he bribed the engineer of a Judy Collins session on the title date to continue recording long into the night, JUST ROLL TAPE is what its title suggests: a roll of inspired performances of songs from Still's embryonic catalog just before Crosby and Nash's angelic voices stormed the pop charts with him.
Personnel: Stephen Stills (dobro).

Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970 songs This is a DTS CD, which features DTS 5.1 Surround Sound technology and is playable on a DTS-capable 5.1 Surround Sound system.
While the Moodies were never exactly a rocker's delight, SEVENTH SOJOURN, the seventh recording with the post-Denny Laine lineup, is perhaps their most ballad-heavy album. Ironically, the album's biggest hit, which would become one of the group's signature songs, was the uncharacteristically uptempo "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band." Elsewhere, appearances are equally deceiving; interpersonal tensions had developed in the band to the point where there wouldn't be another Moody Blues album for six years, but the album is full of slow, romantic musings, not signs of strife.
As usual, it's Justin Hayward, he of the silky voice and heart-on-a-sleeve lyricism, who excels at all this romantic balladry, his contributions being the most melodic and affecting. John Lodge's aforementioned "I'm Just a Singer" is far and away the most energetic tune, but it closes the album and doesn't disturb the contemplative mood. Ironically, though the band was coming apart, they were also reaching new heights. Keyboardist Mike Pinder had traded in his Mellotron for its more sophisticated cousin, the Chamberlain, which provided an improved overall sound on SEVENTH SOJOURN.

Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970 CD music The Moodies were a prolific lot in the late '60s. This, the post-Denny Laine lineup's fourth album, was the second to be released in 1969. It was the group's most mature, fully realized effort to date, arguably surpassing even the milestone DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED in its elegance and vision. The Moodies were always capable of both songcraft and experimentalism, but this was the first time they combined them both successfully. Mike Pinder's dramatically arcing mellotron is the perfectly complement to the group's lush vocal harmonies, which are colored by rich acoustic guitar textures.
Things open on a mind-bendingly psychedelic note with the electrical storm of "Higher and Higher," but soon the waters calm. Justin Hayward's brief acoustic ballad "I Never Thought I'd Live to be a Hundred" is among the band's loveliest tunes, and it leads into "Beyond," an ambitious instrumental that is the Moodies at their most progressive. Throughout the album, the mixture of winningly melodic balladry, poignant folk-rock and ambitious prog-rock leanings combine for what is one of the Moody Blues' most satisfying albums.

Jefferson Airplane Sweeping Up the Spotlight: Jefferson Airplane Live at the Fillmore East 1969 CD (2007)
Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970 buy CD music Jefferson Airplane were less focused in 1969 than they had been in the Summer of Love two years before. Recorded at the Fillmore East, these performances find the Airplane coming off their most recent album, Volunteers, released a month earlier, with the band a lot looser (drug use aside) and fractured. The factions in the group were presenting themselves during performances, and this set is no exception. Guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Cassidy connected and jammed like they would have been just as content without the vocals getting in the way, Grace Slick and Paul Kantner combined their voices and played off each other, while Marty Balin screamed and crammed lyrics together, leaving little space for anyone else. During this era, harmonizing seemed out of the question, especially when the older tracks, like "Plastic Fantastic Lover," were being played at warp speed. Slick and Balin mainly yell over each other, a combination of clashing personalities and competition with the sheer volume of the instruments. In the era of Cream and Hendrix, the Airplane had become entwined with jazz-influenced improvisation and the distorted, electric end of the blues; the softer, folkie side of the band was nowhere to be found. For what the Airplane were doing at the time, there's no doubt that this was exciting and adventurous music, albeit without the intimate yin to the blazing yang. Collectors will want to pick up this set, at the very least, for the inclusion of the rarely heard "Uncle Sam Blues," "You Wear Your Dresses Too Short," and "Come Back Baby." ~ Al Campbell
Previously unissued 1969 live performance from the West Coast legends, released to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of the 'Summer Of Love'. Jefferson Airplane were one of the bands at the center of this defining era of music and are still held in great esteem by fans and music critics (all of whom would rather forget Starship). Recorded live at Bill Graham's Fillmore East, Sweeping Up The Spotlight features 12 tracks including 'White Rabbit', 'Crown Of Creation', 'Volunteers' and 10+ minute versions of 'The Other Side Of This Life' and 'The Ballad Of You & Me & Pooneil'. 2007.

Live at the BBC: 1967-1970 CDs (2007)
Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970 songs While not a complete or exhaustive collection of the Moody Blues' appearances on the BBC, this two-disc compilation is a worthy overview of the band's live, in-studio performances. Likewise, as over a dozen tracks are not available elsewhere on CD, BBC SESSIONS 1967-1970 (2007) perfectly complements the BBC-sourced bonus tracks found on the expanded editions of the Moodies classic back catalog. Taken primarily in a chronological fashion, the anthology kicks off with several post Denny Laine/Clint Warwick era songs that likewise pre-date the band's DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED (1967) incarnation, while the audio from a few of the band's television appearances make up a sizable portion of the second disc. Worth mentioning is the 16-page liner booklet with rarely published photos and a brief history of the Moody Blues' relationship with the BBC.
2007 two CD collection featuring rare and seldom-heard recordings by The Moody Blues taken from the BBC vaults. These BBC recordings span their '67-'70 trips to the BBC's studios. Disc One features stunning session versions of some of the classics from their late '60s albums and Disc Two contains their TV appearances from that same time period, including a performance for the Tom Jones show that the BBC had `lost' and was only recently discovered. Features vital versions of 'Nights In White Satin', 'Question', 'Tuesday Afternoon', 'Ride My See-Saw' and many others. 43 tracks total. Universal.
Liner Note Author: David Wells .
Recording information: 05/09/1967-08/29/1970.
