| | Tune Stranglers Stranglyn CD Tune Stranglers Discography of CDs
Anchored by washboard player Scuff Acuff, an honest to goodness member of what is apparently a very large Acuff clan, the Tune Stranglers start out Stranglyn with Get With It, an invitation to knock the manure off your boots and for lack of a better phrase: Get with it! If you feel the yodel is a thankfully dying art form, behold Yodel Blues where fiddle player Eliza Welch makes a convincing case for continuing its dominance over all other musical forms. Showing hometown pride Track 3 Oly Stomp celebrates Olympia Washington, a profound theme that will rear its head again on Track 7 Mud Bay Stomp. Pig Hip (Track 4) is not only my 4-year old sonâs favorite tune on Stranglyn, it is a long overdue hillbilly paean to vegetarianism. After an energetic and heartfelt cover of Fats Wallerâs Hold Tight by Boom Boom âSweetsâ Levine, the Stranglers bust out with Sallie Mae, a lament for the perils of student loans/educational debt. Mud Bay Stomp hammers home the point that Olympia Washington is the best place in the continental U.S. to reside, while their raggedy New Orleans sports a melancholy fiddle solo and three singers. Betty Ann (Track 9) is a sleeper, and rhythmic freight train highlighting the Stranglersâ live experience. Track 12 takes a West Coast progressive turn with Hang Your Head in Shame, a pedal steel tongue lashing for our current leader (aka the W). The knockout progressive punch comes with I Want to be a Cowgirlâs Sweetheart, sung by fiddler Eliza Welch. Two gals, a full moon, a campfire â God Bless America. Stranglyn concludes with a last nugget, a shout out to everyoneâs favorite carnie snack â the Corn Dog.May the Tune Stranglers be rewarded for their musical skill, their humor and intelligence, and for their fresh update of old time music. | | Barbara Stephan I'm Awake CD (2008)
Stranglyn songs
$18.95 âBarbara Stephan's (http://barbarastephan.com) "I'm Awake" is an accomplished, lushly produced (Stephan shares the credit with Joe Puerta) effort that signals what could be a stellar career ahead. Such a prediction isn't hyperbole. Anybody who listens to the middle of this record, when the stuff of classic singles such as "Footsteps on the Floor," "Taken," and "It's Not What You Do" are paraded before our giddy ears, will quickly nod to that call.Stephan avoids the bland singer/songwriter trappings that are making many music critics become allergic to the genre. First, her voice is not that of some folky manic-depressive; it is strong and pumped with a passion for living, even when she is hurt, as on "Taken." Secondly, the music is truly electric, beginning with the funky undertow of "Listen and Learn" to the crisp drumming and bluesy harmonica of "Don't Want to Wait" to the Latin flavors of "Footsteps on the Floor," wherein Stephan is reminiscent of a sober Amy Winehouse. "It's Not What You Do" is a standout because it is so irresistible, namely the chorus, which Stephan sings with such infectious glee. Dare I say she is more appealing than Sheryl Crow's attempts at this rootsy Adult Contemporary pop style? The Steely Dan-like silky webs of jazz and white funk on "Taken" will seduce you into think it is a love song unless you pay attention to the lyrics, and you find out it's about a woman being deceived by a man in a relationship. Stephan's soulful voice is given the spotlight in the title track, which oddly enough isn't the best cut on the CD but whose title does summarize the uplifting vibe of the album.â Author: Adam HarringtonWhisperin & HollerinBarbara Stephan, I'm Awake âA full album project from a local artist is a major undertaking. Especially when the album is comprised of all original songs. But this new effort from chanteuse Stephan is a fine effort of which she can truly be proud. Besides ...

Stranglyn album
$11.49 I got my start singing harmonies with my twin sister in the church choir. I grew up in a small town in the middle of nowhere, so I did everything I could do musically- school chorus, talents shows, harmony groups, musicals, even a movie when I was twelve! But I always knew what I wanted to do was write my own songs because I had something to say. So I started turning my poetry into songs. I had been a published poet by the time I was nineteen and had started playing the piano when I was four, but never really connected the ...

The soul of his guitar is juxtaposed by his youthful vocal quality, which is actually quite refreshing, not to mention encouraging to any bluesman of the twenty-first century.\"--Richard Jordan-Long Island Pulse Magazine--\"Phil is known as the \"Blues Boy\" of Long Island (NY) and with good reason. He shows a deep understanding of finger-style patterns and rhythm, and has all ...

$15.15 SoCal's South Bay used to have a prog band, Underwater Traffic, that never got the reception it deserved. The area is most emphatically not an intellectual's paradise nor minded to sit still for music deriving from any region or estate other than crotch or drugged stupor (neither of which I'm disinclined towards, but everything in its place, no?). Underwater Traffic boasted a roster of highly talented and innovative cats but shone especially in two of them. One was James Musser, a multi-instrumental guitarist who constantly puts the sweat on Carl Verheyen every time they're pitted against each other in Hollywood-L.A. axeslinger duels, and the other was the guy who cut this disc, Trevor Lloyd, a multi-instrumental violinist. This is his first solo CD, playing everything except drums on one ...

$11.39 Iâm Robert Allen. I sing, write music and play about a dozen different instruments â some better than others. It all started in New London, CT at age 7 singing âHappy Trails To Youâ in the school talent show.By the time I was 16 my best buddies and I had formed East Hampton, CTâs proverbial high school band. As âThe Specialsâ we played at all the local school dances and I even persuaded the movie theater owner to let us play between matinees on the weekend. That was definitely a first in our town! Then came the stint in the U.S. Navy and I formed âThe Signalmenâ. The shipâs captain liked the band so well he arranged for us to perform before officials and dignitaries in Italy, Subic Bay, Hong Kong, China, Spain, Africa and Hawaii. After the Navy I spent several years on Staten Island performing with âThe Country Echoesâ. Just before going on a live radio broadcast the DJ realized he had trouble pronouncing my name. He asked who my favorite guitar player was and I replied that it was Duane Eddy. He said, âGood. For today your name is Bob Dwayneâ. And it stuck! The call of Nashville came next. While there I formed and fronted âThe Bob Dwayne Showâ, ...
