| | Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Speed Of Life CD (2009)
Road Of Life CD music
$15.09 Speed of Life is the first studio album by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in five years and celebrates the group's 43rd anniversary with three of its original members still intact (and no, the number 43 was not a typo). It also finds them reduced once more to a quartet with the departure of multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Ibbotson. That said, the band has lost none of its immediacy, power, or expert presentation of both original material and songs from some of Nashville's finest. Released by Sugar Hill Records (who distributes their NGDB Records imprint), the group recorded the set live in the studio. Produced by veterans George Massenburg and Jon Randall Stewart, this set sounds inspired, fresh, and like the NGDB has been utterly rejuvenated. It combines the old-/good-timey feel of their concert performances -- without adding American folk or country standards -- and the poignancy of their best studio recordings. Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter, and John McEuen were aided on this set by bassist Glenn Worf, guitarist Richard Bennett, and drummer Vince Santoro, as well as backing vocalists such as Matraca Berg (who also contributed a pair of songs to the album), Jessi ...

| | Carter Tanton Birds & Rain CD (2005)
Road Of Life album
$11.35 Singer/songwriter Carter Tanton opens his debut album with "Dancehall Girls," a stark piece of post-punk blues that wouldn't sound a bit out of place on any White Stripes album, right down to a drum part most politely described as "basic." From that imitative beginning, however, Tanton moves into considerably more interesting, self-assured material. "18 and Drastic," for example, is built on a trebly, arpeggiated riff laid over an urgent, driving rhythm section that keeps the song from sounding like a mid-'80s ...

| | Dawn Maracle Have You Heard CD (2008)
Road Of Life songs
$14.79 Dawn Maracle Dawn Maracle injects her alternative stylings with a spark of energy and a way of bending melody that stamps her distinct signature on her tunes. Catchy without sacrificing artistic credibility and shot through with songwriting savvy that speaks of innate talent and a dedication to the perfection of one\'s craft, Maracle\'s songs are road signs along the path to musical satisfaction. Vigor “Music makes me feel invigorated and full of energy,” says Maracle, and it\'s plain to see – or hear – from the way her music shines along a sharp edge of finely honed sounds. Her music is full of the energy with which music itself inspires her, as though it was a gift that demanded to be passed on. And her music is as absorbing for fans as it is for her as the creator. “I get deeply engrossed with passion when performing any music,” she declares, and it\'s a passion that qualifies as benevolent contagion without cure – and who would want a cure? Gift For Maracle, though, the credit doesn\'t rest with her. She views herself as a messenger of sorts. Music is a present with which she was bequeathed and her duty as an artist is to shape it into pleasing sounds and share it with others. And such she does gladly. “Music is a gift from God and if you are blessed with a talent, you should be honest and respect that.” Maracle hit the ground running with her talent. She\'s devoted to her music and writes and plays with an unquenchable ...
