After DESTINY'S opening thumping baseline, funky guitar chords, and Michael Jackson's hiccuping "heeee-heee-heeee," there's only one sensible thing to do--blame it on the boogie. Or blame it on the Jacksons' 1978 platinum-selling album for being so damn good. The tenor of the times was finally right for the band, and everyone involved is on top form. With songs all written and produced by the Jacksons, the emphasis is on booty-shaking music with heart and real soul. Within a year Michael Jackson's OFF THE WALL album, on the charts for 52 weeks, would make him a force to be reckoned with. But on DESTINY, Michael's passion and desire is palpable, giving the album its real power and edge.
Besides "Blame it on the Boogie," DESTINY also features the disco-combustible "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)." Just about all the songs here are superlative, with standouts including Michael's delicately displayed anguish on the tender "Push Me Away," and the surprisingly poignant soul-searching "Destiny" which presciently foretells the situation the boys were soon to face as Michael's popularity soared.

Destiny album
$5.49 OFF THE WALL remaster contains previously unreleased demos and commentary by producer Quincy Jones and songwriter Rod Temperton.
Recorded in Los Angeles, California between 1978 & 1979. Originally released on Epic (35745).
Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
As the lead singer of the Jackson 5, Michael Jackson had already been labeled a legend at a young age; but OFF THE WALL introduced the world to the adult Michael Jackson, and proved that he was still very much worthy of that label. It was the real beginning for Michael as a solo artist, and opened the doors for his next album THRILLER, which would become the greatest selling album of all time and help foist upon a Jackson a new title: King Of Pop.
Under the supervision of Quincy Jones, OFF THE WALL illustrated some of Jackson's most soulful material. The title-track is among the album's smoothest, and introduces his silky feel for the dance-floor. The lively "Working Day And Night" was a teaser for the singles "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock With You," both of which reached #1 on the pop charts. Slowing down the pace, the album also hosted ...

Destiny CD music
$7.59 Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
Jackson's domination of the world record market continued following Thriller, although by comparison it was an almighty flop with only 12 million sales. As Pink Floyd and Dire Straits have proved, one album can go completely sales haywire without necessarily being any better. The title track and the gorgeous "Man In The Mirror" were substantial hits, but quality material such as "Dirty Diana" and "Liberian Girl" bolster a strong album. Jackson also seemed to have found the romance he seeks in "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" and "The Way You Make Me Feel." Regardless of his press, history clearly shows that he has made a lot of people very, very happy.

Destiny music CDs
$8.49 The finest example of perfect disco pop, and a record that should be prescribed to musical snobs and manic depressives. The album is a true ambassador of what pop music can be. Jackson whoops and dances through a suite of unforgettable melodies that should be danced to with a smile on your face. Each track offers at least one musical hook, whether it is the beauty of 'Human Nature' (who can resist the 'dada dada da da da') or the 'whoo whoo' of 'Billie ...
| | The Jacksons CD (1976)
Destiny songs
$6.89 For their first release on Epic Records after leaving Motown and Berry Gordy behind, the newly re-christened Jacksons shuffled brothers, as Jermaine left to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Randy, a younger, yet-unseen brother. After a phenomenally successful seven years as the Jackson Five, the group's second incarnation released its eponymous debut album in 1976, helmed by songwriter/producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.
THE JACKSONS finds the group at an interesting crossroads. As the Jackson 5, they were able to kick up a youthful ruckus with their music but here seem to be undergoing growing pains. They succeed mostly by grafting their ...
| | Jacksons Victory CD (1984)
Destiny album
$6.89 Coming off an unprecedented year in which Michael Jackson turned superstar with the album THRILLER, he regrouped with his brothers to record VICTORY in 1984. Working with David Paich and Jeff and Steve Porcaro of Toto assured an upfront pop record that reunited all six Jacksons, including Jermaine who had left a few years earlier to pursue a solo career.
The public's mania for all things Michael vaulted the album to number four on the Billboard charts and even secured a gold record for "State of Shock," a slamming duet between Michael and Mick Jagger. "Torture" became another Top 20 hit, but the standouts are the sweeter ...
| | Jacksons Triumph CD (1980) Bonus Tracks
Destiny CD music
$8.25 The Jacksons kicked open the door to the '80s with the appropriately titled TRIUMPH. Michael Jackson's gigantic success a year earlier with his platinum-selling OFF THE WALL fueled this album, which heavily features his scorching vocals and hitmaking production sensibilities.
With all songs written and produced by the Jacksons, the album begins with the orchestral bombast of "Can You Feel It," complete with child and adult choirs; it's a big song with a monumental production. Entering a new phase of their career mixing spooky spirituality with unimpeachably funky beats, the Jacksons feature a number of hits, notably the sentimental boogie of "Lovely ...

| | Jen Schwartz Candy From A Stranger CD (2000)
Destiny songs
$11.49 Candy From A Stranger is the debut album from Jen Schwartz. In essence, a collection of journal entries recounting times of lost love and life's lessons learned hard. Schwartz's music is a mixture of the aggressive and the beautiful. Her heart-felt creations evoke multi-dimensional excursions through the psyche. Perhaps the strength in her music lies in her ability to slither through a diverse range of emotions, leading listeners on a journey wrought with fierce mood swings and fluctuations. She slices through the surface with raging power chords and percussive explosions, then lulls the listener with tender voice and ethereal waves of musical mastery. If you like Natalie Merchant, Sinead O'Connor and pre-electronica Everything But The Girl, check out Jen Schwartz.BIOJen Schwartz is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter living in Los Angeles (originally from a small college town in Western Massachusetts). From the beginning of her musical endeavors, Schwartz has been driven by a spark of independence that inspired her to play almost every note her debut album, from drums to guitar to voice. She was also in charge of ...

| | Ken Webb Lovely Matters CD (2009)
Destiny CD music
$16.45 “Lovely Matters” is Ken Webb’s most stripped down production in years. After a number of recordings (mainly in France) with different combinations of his international “World Wide Webb” All-Star Band (amounting to 6 albums of material), this effort brings him back home. Literally, these songs were recorded in his home (often minutes after the songs were written) with just voice and guitar. It wasn’t until much later, when Ken saw a remarkable performance by a unique sideman that these recordings “took off.” Rob Jost is one of New York City’s most in-demand bass players (Tony Sherr, Imogen Heap, Saturday Night Live, Ursa Minor). Additionally, he is equally talented with the French Horn and Ukulele. So, after seeing Rob play all three at a gig at Rockwood Music Hall (supporting NYC songstress, Sasha Dobson) Ken immediately felt he had found a great collaborator. So, one Labor Day Weekend, Webb invited Jost to his place in NYC, to see what would happen if they put some Rob Jost magic on some of Ken’s favorite home recordings. It wasn’t until much later when Ken crossed paths with Tom Schick, an accomplished sound engineer, producer and mixer (Norah Jones, Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright, Jesse Harris) that the project came to fruition. Tom’s mixes were the final frosting on the sonic cake. The resulting work “Lovely Matters” not only describes the sound of the ...
