The front cover of Jackson Browne's TIME THE CONQUEROR features the eternally boyish-looking singer-songwriter sporting a grizzled, graying beard that puts the album title into its personal context. But musically speaking, TIME THE CONQUEROR finds Browne back in his musical comfort zone, delivering exactly the sort of Southern California singer-songwriter pop that made his name back in the 1970s. Recorded with his longtime touring band, the 10 songs have the unfussy, laid-back sound of vintage Browne albums like HOLD OUT and THE PRETENDER, while the lyrics mix political commentary and personal ruminations in Browne's trademark style. This is almost certainly his best album since at least 1983's LAWYERS IN LOVE.

Rolling Stone (p.70) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "TIME THE CONQUEROR finds him protesting with typical directness....As he contemplates issues of love and travel, he's always assessing the ways the world has changed since the Sixties..." Rolling Stone (p.91) - Ranked #22 in Rolling Stone's 50 Best Albums Of 2008 -- "TIME reconciles Browne's two passions as a songwriter: current events and interior drama." Mojo (Publisher) (p.119) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Throughout, his band plays with subdued beauty and Browne sings with resonant grace - abetted by two strikingly sensitive new backing vocalists, Chavonne Morris and Alethea Mills." Jackson Browne Time The Conqueror Songs Time The Conqueror Music Review Average Rating: (2.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Disappointed I love the music of Jackson Browne - the soundtrack to my life. He has made the best music know to man, unfortunately this disc is amongst those elite recordings of yester year. There are some wonderful songs on here but there is also some awful dross (e.g. Drums of War). This album ranks alongside the poorest recordings of Jackson's career - Lives In The Balance, Lawyers In Love & World In Motion. Most disappointing of all is the production - it is SO dead, no clarity, no vibrancy - compare this to Naked Ride Home and you'll see what I mean. This is one for dedicated fans and completists. comparisons While agreeing that this album does`nt stand comparison with J. B.`s classic albums,I(a life long J.B.fan) am enjoying listening to this his latest output. When a songwriter reaches the peaks he has in earlier work( in my opinion some of the finest songs of the past forty years) ,is it not expecting over much for that standard to be reproducd every time?. With little or no effusive arrangements i enjoy the simplicity of these songs of frustration and questioning of Western actions and attitude. if you liked Dr. Hook... If you liked Dr. Hook, than your gonna love this one...enough said...just my opinion. However, my wife (much smarter than me) "really, really liked it" and rated it five stars. So, if your smart and like Jackson Browne, you may really really like this one. Or, if you just miss Dr. Hook... Submitted by glen (Vancouver, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Time The Conqueror album
$9.99 A solid follow-up to 2005's SOLO ACOUSTIC VOLUME 1, this sequel was recorded at various concerts across several continents in the last few years, providing a wide overview of Jackson Browne's career as both a songwriter and a performer. Ranging across the breadth of Browne's lengthy career, from 1972's "Something Fine" to a handful of songs from 2002's THE NAKED RIDE HOME, SOLO ACOUSTIC VOLUME 2 is lighter on the instantly recognizable radio hits, although "Somebody's Baby" and "In the Shape of a Heart" are both accounted for. Even more appealing for longtime fans, over ...
| | Neil Young Live At Massey Hall 1971 CD (2007) Includes bonus DVD
Time The Conqueror CD music
$21.29 Bob Dylan once famously remarked about hearing Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" on the radio that he knew his days as the man of the hour were numbered. Fact is, Young is the only guy who can even reasonably compete with Dylan for the title of rock's greatest songwriter, and while "Dylan in the '60s" has long been a cliched assessment of ...

| | Byrds: Live At Royal Albert Hall 1971 CD (2008)
Time The Conqueror album
$13.89 Although the original lineup of the Byrds gets the most critical attention, and to the greatest extent it probably should, the fact remains that the late-era version of this band, the one that featured founding member Roger McGuinn and Clarence White on guitars, Skip Battin on bass, and Gene Parsons on drums, was the most stable one the group ever had, and by far the best live unit. Between 1969 and 1972 this incarnation of the Byrds recorded five albums and toured relentlessly and their shows, thanks in no small part to the guitar interplay between McGuinn and the truly astounding White, were wonderfully balanced affairs that featured all of the Byrds' stylistic phases -- from folk-rock to country to bluegrass and space music and beyond -- rolled into ...

| | Norfolk & Western Winter Farewell CD (2002)
Time The Conqueror songs
$11.95 Winter Farewell is, in effect, the first genuine collective Norfolk & Western band effort, featuring mostly ensemble performances and production and at least a half-dozen co-writing credits. It is also every bit as strong as -- in fact, even stronger than -- Centralia. The album retains essentially the same template and basic sound as its predecessor. The resonant, organic production remains intact and it possesses and maintains the same beautifully somber mood. Winter Farewell, however, improves on previous efforts in several key ways. The production is even more diverse and engrossing, the playing is more cohesive, and the album as a whole is more conceptually unified. Essentially folk-based, the majority of the music has the air of a vintage attic heirloom. Like the painted portraits of Civil War soldiers that decorate the CD package, it is often reminiscent, in an aural sense, of old sepia-toned photographs from an earlier era fixed into scrapbooks by yellowed tape. It seems to exist somewhere outside the constraints of time. Tony Moreno's manipulated instruments and soundscapes and Raymond Richards' breathing pedal steel runs give many of the songs their ghostly ambience, an impression of layers of dust, as if they have arisen from the ashes of field recordings, which isn't entirely removed from the truth. Snippets of handheld recordings are indeed used, while lovely bits of banjo, ...
| | Minus Six 6 CD (2003)
Time The Conqueror album
$9.35 (6) is not our name, (6) is a symbol of who we are.........Our song "Angel" has been playing on multiple radio stations throughout the worldReviews:(6) is a truly great St. Louis band that has managed to combine the sounds of industrial/gothic music with innovative ideas that are truly their own. The band's debut release is an impressive collection of songs that manages to capture the energy and power of their live shows. The CD's second track, "19," is so good that it's easy to kill a weekend just listening to that song alone. Gage's keyboard sounds are exceptionally original and he manages to come up with parts that make the songs unpredictable and exciting. They ...

Time The Conqueror album
$17.45 Featuring members of Soft Machine, Gilgamesh, and National Health, Soft Heap was invariably an adventurous band that had girded themselves for live work, with this eponymous set their sole studio release. Recorded in late 1978, SOFT HEAP reflected the prominence of Elton Dean's saxophone, which immediately set the group apart from their Canterbury scene colleagues. On "Circle Line," Dean's horn is melancholy, ...
