With its debut release, DEATH PREVAILS, Germany's Hackneyed makes its goal perfectly clear: to bring back the glory days of uncompromising death metal. Paying homage to such legends as Dismember, Grave, Immolation, and Napalm Death, DEATH PREVAILS is a nine-song exercise in brutality, with one foot in death metal's harsh past and one foot in the future. For such an ambitious effort, it might be a surprise to learn that the average age of Hackneyed's five members is somewhere in the mid-teens. At the time of recording, the band's lead guitarist was only 14! Age aside, DEATH PREVAILS is one beast of an album.
Without saying a word the music of Hackneyed tells enough already - modern death metal with its very own flavour that shows the band's technical abilities as well as the tribute they pay to the legends of the genre. Hackneyed's will not only appeal to death metal heads but also fascinate the whole extreme metal scene. Hilarious drumming with machine gun like snare attacks that will put a smile on the face of every fan of grindcore as well as perfect groove bombs that unerringly hit the listener's knees. In addition to this the band offers impressively skilled brutal dual guitar power and a shouter that convinces vocally as well as on stage. Even though "Death Prevails" marks the band's debut release, they're already far from your standard verse-chorus-verse fare. The band's live presence makes you wonder if they've been playing shows since their infancy, rocking their audiences and putting on a great stage show! With and average age of 16, the youngest member being 14 this is a band that will have to be brought to their own shows by parents and friends for a while yet. Though despite their age they take the fast lane when it comes to showing other bands as well as the main part of the scene, how it's supposed to be done! Death Prevails album
$12.95 This is the album that started it all for Twisted Sister. With the group's classic lineup complete and producer Pete Way (of UFO and Waysted fame) at the helm, TS put to wax its early club material and in the process came up with one of the greatest hard-rock debuts ever.
"What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You)," with its hypercharged metal riff, has been the band's concert-opener for years. "Bad Boys (Of Rock 'n' Roll)" is a testosterone-fueled singalong with a great hook and lead guitar lick. "Shoot 'Em Down," which received some airplay upon release, features the furious riffs and anthemic qualities that would characterize much of the band's material through the years. "Destroyer" is as heavy as heavy gets, while the title track was singled out by Tipper Gore's P.M.R.C. for being about sado-masochism and bondage ...
