Songs of Innocence Customer Reviews
||Stunning, wonderful... perfect|
Having been introduced to treble singing only recently (a friend of mine made me enthusiastic about Libera and I am a big fan since), I am still discovering a lot of exciting music. And even though I am not at all an expert, I have no trouble agreeing that Andrew Swait is an exceptional singer. Pairing his pure, expressive and charming voice with that of famous countertenor James Bowman (another recent favourite of mine), accompanied by only a piano (an instrument close to my heart), makes for a wonderful listening experience. Add to that a wide range of beautiful and intriguing songs, and presto, a perfect album is born. I honestly can't stop listening to it! Some people complain that Andrew Swait has chosen an unusual repertoire for this recital, but I find his choices very interesting. I have already spent some time online finding out the background about some of the older songs and find I can appreciate the songs even more with what I've learned. But the most amazing thing about this CD has to be Andrew Swait's voice, which is strong and clear and full of personality, musicality and charm. An absolute delight to listen to over and over. The piano accompaniment is sparse and this stark and simple approach makes his voice shine at its brightest. It is touching to hear the combination of Andrew's young but very rich voice and James Bowman's much older and ripe voice. They contrast and complement eachother and merge wonderfully, and makes one wonder how Andrew's voice will sound when he'll be James Bowman's age. All in all, regardless if you are familiar with treble singing or the kind of repertoire presented here or not, this stunning album is highly recommended.
