Sukiyaki Western Django review Product Description
Sukiyaki Western Django movie was released Nov 11, 2008 by the First Look Home Entertainment studio. Famed Japanese director Takashi Miike redefines the spaghetti Western in this English language masterpiece. A tale of 2 clans written in blood: the white Genjis, led by Yoshitsune, and the red Heinkes, led by Kiyomori. As they battle for a legendary treasure hidden in a desolate mountain, a lone gunman drifts into town. He is burdened with deep emotional scars but blessed with sharpshooter aim. The deadly feud erupts into a final, explosive showdown as the 2 clans try to woo the lone gunman to their sides. Quentin Tarantino also stars.
SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANGO is prolific Japanese cult director Takashi Miike's samurai tribute to the Spaghetti Western genre. With an irreverent style and an obvious knowledge of the oater canon, Miike sets out to celebrate the factory line artistry of films such as Sergio Leone's A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS and Sergio Carbucci's DJANGO, while fully embracing the dazzling, post-modern aesthetic of movies such as KILL BILL and DESPERADO. And while homage and cinematic genre mash-ups can both be high on genuine artistic vision, it's clear from the supremely stylized opening prologue--with its transparent set pieces, outrageous kill shots, and cameo from that anointer of cult films himself, Quentin Tarantino--that Miike is out to have fun above all. ...See Full Description

| Dont Listen to That Other Review To be fair.. the first time i watched this it annoyed the crap out of me... you need to know 1 thing going into this: THEY ALL SPEAK ENGLSH.. not great english, not even good, but its english.. and that adds to the charm if you know it outright.. after that, all you need is a bowl of popcorn or a pizza and some friends, and this movie is fun... and for the record (if you didnt already know) A Fistful of Dollars was based on Yojimbo anyway.. so this takes a similar kind of narrative and re-reappropriates all the cliches in more of a backflip than an homage... | poor homage A big fan of Martial Art films and Italian Westerns. This movies is a let down, pattern after fist full of dollars but that where similiarities end. I would not recommend this film to anyone. By jm21965 (elsmere, de) This review is for a different format. |
