Indulis Suna is a recognized Latvian – Canadian performing and recording artist. For the last 17 years he has been recording CDs in the classical, new age and contemporary music album categories. Indulis continue to electrify and astonish audiences with his extraordinary live performances in Toronto and Southern Ontario. With his wife Ilga who is an exceptional concert pianist, he has recorded several CDs and produced DVDs of their live Recitals. Indulis Suna holds a post-graduate degree at the P.I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory as well as a diploma with honours from the J. Vitols Latvian State Academy of Music in Riga. He completed his studies in 1982 with the prominent professor D. M. Tziganov in Moscow. In Latvia Indulis Suna was the first violinist of the Latvian State String Quartet and a soloist of the Latvian State Philharmonic. In addition to his extensive performing career, Indulis held a teaching position at the J. Vitols Latvian State Academy of Music. He also made numerous world premiere recordings at the Latvian State Radio. Ilga Suna received her degree in performance from the J. Vitols Latvian State Academy of Music. Beside concert performances with her husband, Ilga has dedicated many years of her life as a piano teacher and an accompanist at the J. Vitols Latvian State Academy and J. Medins Music college in Riga. She has received many diplomas for high performance and teaching skills. Brothers Matt and Bubba Kadane never promised a huge departure when they transitioned from Bedhead to the New Year in 1999. As NEWNESS ENDS picked up where the former band's TRANSACTION DE NOVO left off, so this record subtly expounds upon 2004's THE END IS NEAR's musical advances. That previous sweet Bedhead bleak streak is still in evidence on "My Neighborhood," but other songs like "The Company I Can Get" and "X Off Days" are slicker, brighter affairs. That half the songs were written on piano might help account for some of the changes in tone, which is most noticeable on the straight-up piano ballads, "MMV" and "Body & Soul." Lyrically, the New Year remain glum, but their willingness to widen their sound evokes the opposite, which is hope.
Anyone who has followed the Kadane brothers over the past almost 20 years first as Bedhead, now as the New Year pretty much knows what to expect from a new album released under their guidance. You're guaranteed chord progressions that start off quietly and build and build until the speakers are overflowing ...
