Big Block 454 is a semi-amorphous post-modern / situationist neo-dada cross-platform compositional construct from Manchester, England (featuring people from Liverpool, Leeds and Lincolnshire). Over the years, Big Block 454 have unleashed a series of albums and multi-media happenings upon an unsuspecting public, combining influences such as Faust, Can, Brian Eno, The Residents, the Bonzo Dog Band, King Crimson and the BBC Radiophonics Workshop - surrealism meets Krautrock meets downright Northern stupidity. We play whatever we bloody well like, alright? Big Block 454 have worked on multi-media projects with famed dada artist Russell Mills, and have been championed by such people as the BBC\'s Stuart Maconie and Sunday Times writer/comedian Stewart Lee. Big Block 454 have guested on Stuart Maconie\'s BBC 6 Music radio show The Freak Zone. Stuart said, after playing \"I name this child Acker Bilk\", \"we\'re all pretty much agreed here that that was genius... terrific stuff.\"Reviewers have said : \"this excellent album / outrageously funky / moments of real beauty / strange humour. \" \"brilliant arrangements, well engineered... humbling, really, and very imaginative as well.\" \"ethereal, stripped down beauty / sublime trippy ambient loveliness / owls quarrelling in a bicycle factory / the music sounds as if Fela Kuti has been taken hostage by a convention of table tennis enthusiasts / a great release and one you should hunt down without delay.\"\"fascinating and sometimes scary world / wander through someone elses dreams and nightmares, funny and frightening ... uneasy listening, sub-genre fractured genius.\"An American fan said:\"I will treasure the experience of hearing Big Block 454 for a very long time. Actually, I\'m not quite sure the effects will ever wear off. What I felt was on the same level of intensity as my first read of Naked Lunch, my first view of Eraserhead or the time my music professor played Bartok on a Steinway baby in our classroom with tears in his eyes.\" 454 Big Block Bratislava Songs | 1. | Motor Cycle Au Pair Boy |

| | Curtis & Loretta It's Where You Hang Your Hat CD (2008)
Bratislava
$15.19 \"There’s something about the charming local folk duo Curtis & Loretta that transcends their talents on a variety of stringed instruments, their finely interwoven vocal harmonies, and their ability to make traditional folk tunes--mostly from the British Isles--shimmer with fresh vitality. That secret ingredient is at the core of Loretta’s songwriting (Curtis ain’t no slouch on that score either.) With a journalist’s eye for detail and a knack for tugging at heartstrings while cutting to the quick of an issue, she writes riveting songs such as \'Elza and Branko (The Siege of Sarajevo)\' from the duo’s 1994 album \'It’s Where You Hang Your Hat.\' She based it on a newspaper account of an elderly couple sustained only by love in their struggle to survive the privations of the Balkan wars. Years later, Loretta learned Branko had died, but Elza was living in abject poverty in Croatia.\" ...Rick Mason, City Pages A-List (Minneapolis)“They are acclaimed multi-instrumentalists with extraordinary harmonies. I got their latest album for review and was bowled over.” ...Vic Heyman, Vic’s Music Corner, Washington D.C.“Beautiful music and good words too. Tears and shaking breath during ‘Elza and Branko.’ Strong stuff.” ....Berk Snow, KMUD Radio, Redway, Calif.\"When Curtis and Loretta played our Friday at the Ford concert at the Thomas Ford Memorial Library in spring 2003, the crowd was very entertained by their mixture of songs and humor. Before some songs they told stories about the songs or themselves. I saw them again at another location later that year and the show was completely fresh. They repeated some songs but the telling of their stories was all new. They are no canned act. They are really friendly people who happen to have a lot of musical talent.I have been listening to their 1994 CD It\'s Where You Hang Your Hat. On this CD they play a mix of American folk songs and original compositions. Highlights include the title song, their rendition of Woody Guthrie\'s \"Deportee: Plane Wreck at Los Gatos,\" and Leonard Cohen\'s \"Bird on the Wire.\" Loretta\'s \"Dance in the Hallways\" tells her story of working at candy counter, where she was charged by the boss to keep children from smudging the glass; of course, she sided with the children. Curtis\' \"What is the Name of This Town?\" is a tuneful drifter-wants-to-find-a-home song. I have been humming these songs for days.\" ...Rick Roche, ...

$12.69 The incarnation of FT13 had started back in 1998. I aquired some programs and started up a new hobby. | | Eve Selis Angels & Eagles CD (2008) (Import)
Bratislava
$21.45 "Eve Selis isn’t just a 'singer' — she's an emotion transducer who converts country, R&B, blues, folk, and rock 'n' roll signals into a megawatt zap that galvanizes everyone in its path. And as with fellow femme-furnace front women Bonnie Raitt, Joan Osborne, Maria McKee and Melissa Etheridge, the cauterizing power of Selis's voice can arc-weld material from almost any genre into a personal manifesto."This five-time San Diego Music Awards winner blends many styles of American music into a high caliber musical cocktail topped off with a splash of her ndelible “lemonade and whiskey” voice. Take a powerhouse band, lay a foundation of solid rock hooks, then add soaring pop melodies and a dash of alt-country twang and you've got Eve's brand of infectious Roadhouse Rock. It's been four years since her last CD and 18 months in the making to finish her new release, Angels And Eagles. "I was a bit disenchanted by the whole music industry and needed some time to just live and play music," Selis says, "…and then of course, I got pregnant and had a baby at 43 years old!" The break she needed coincided with life and it brought about a CD filled with ...
