Fishmonger Jake Bianski (Jay Jablonski) has a bit of a problem. He's madly in love with his teenage sweetheart, Isabella (Marisa Petroro)--even though they broke up eight years before and she is now married with three kids. But just as he does every year on their "anniversary," he shows up at her doorstep with flowers, and an engagement ring, wearing a new suit, begging her to come back to him. The workers at his fish store in Boston's North End--Steve Bottino (John Kapelos), Gianluca Tempesti (John Enos III), and Aldo "Papa" Tempesti (Richard Libertini)--offer him constant advice, trying to get Jake to give up on Isabella and find a new girl. They fix him up on a blind date with veterinarian Marisa Costa (Cerina Vincent) at an Italian singles night, where both Jake and Marisa pretend to be Italian in order to attract each other. But their first real date is a disaster, with Jake talking nonstop about his girlfriend, as if Isabella is still a part of his life. Nonetheless, Jake and Marisa start becoming friends, but things get complicated when they consider something more--as does Isabella. Writer-director Jason Todd Ipson's second feature film--following 2006's horror film, UNREST, which also starred Jablonski and Petroro--is a heartfelt romantic comedy about love and trust and about grasping life's opportunities. Scream queen Vincent (CABIN FEVER) plays Marisa with an endearing sweetness, while Jablonski manages to make Jake charming despite the character's many serious flaws. But it's Kapelos, Enos III, and the always great Libertini who drive the film as the three very funny wise men--especially Kapelos (THE BREAKFAST CLUB) as Steve, a gruff fish guy studying for his doctorate in psychology with an opinion on just about everything.

This is the only Jay Jablonski video. Stars also making their debut in this video: Anthony Russell.

Clashing cultures and longing hearts collide in director James Dodson's THE OTHER END OF THE LINE, a charming comedy about global love connections. As the film opens we meet Granger Woodruff (Jesse Metcalfe of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES), an advertising hotshot desperate to win over a demanding new client (Larry Miller). Halfway around the world, someone else is taking an active interest in Granger: Priya Sethi (Bollywood star Shriya Saran), an India-based service rep for one of Granger's credit cards. When Priya--pretending to be San Franciscan "Jennifer David"--contacts Granger about fraudulent charges, they strike up a casual flirtation that causes both to question their respective romantic prospects: he, a diva-like girlfriend (Sara Foster); she, an arranged marriage to a mama's boy of a suitor. Priya impulsively accepts Granger's invitation to meet her in San Francisco, where she accidentally meets him not as her alter ego but as her idealistic self. ...
Christmas On Mars
Christmas On Mars DVDs  (2008)

Everybody Wants To Be Italian review
DVD $16.29
In 2001 Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne conceived CHRISTMAS ON MARS, a disorienting sci-fi feature that follows a small band of colonists who have settled on the red planet. Bouts of touring and recording led to a fractured production history for Coyne's film, but together with co-directors Bradley Beesley and George Salisbury, he finally released the movie some seven years after its inception. Flaming Lips member Steven Drozd plays Major Syrtis, a man who tries to lift spirits in the colony by arranging a Christmas pageant to celebrate the impending birth of the first baby on the planet. Unfortunately the man Syrtis chooses to portray Santa commits suicide and a vital part of the space station has malfunctioned, and its inhabitants fear that their days are numbered. Syrtis also suffers from a series of hallucinations, mostly involving oversized vaginas. But the sudden appearance of a green-skinned alien, played by Coyne, changes everything. Coyne and his gallant cast and crew produced CHRISTMAS ON MARS on a minuscule budget. The creaking sets, most of which were constructed in the director's backyard, only add an endearing, and frequently amusing, air to the proceedings. Fans of John Carpenter's trippy sci-fi satire, ...

Wendy And Lucy DVD  (2008)

Everybody Wants To Be Italian DVD
DVD $19.65  5 stars Top 500
On the heels of her critically lauded OLD JOY, Kelly Reichardt delivers another deeply resonant portrait of a dying America with WENDY AND LUCY. In OLD JOY, two men provided the heart and soul of the story. This time, the film is centered on a young woman, played with utter conviction and selflessness by Michelle Williams (BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN). Williams is Wendy, a down-on-her-luck woman who has driven across-country with her dog, Lucy, in search of a better life in Alaska. Wendy can barely support this journey, and when her car breaks down in Oregon and she becomes separated from Lucy, her predicament becomes even more dire. In a world that doesn't seem to ...
