The 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek as a teenage outcast who seeks revenge on her classmates.

Carrie, a shy teenager with a fiercely religious and oppressive mother, struggles to come to terms with her emerging sexuality and extraordinary telekinetic powers. Just as she's beginning to enjoy a sudden change in her life, a cruel practical joke drives her to a monstrous act of revenge and destruction.

Brian De Palma's commercial breakout, based on a novel by Stephen King, helped launch a whole slew of teen-based horror films, and Carrie the blood-spattered prom queen has taken her throne in the pantheon of modern American myth. High school girls played by Amy Irving (in her film debut), P.J. Soles, and Nancy Allen plot to avenge themselves on ostracized fellow student and budding telekinetic Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) after they get in trouble for pelting her with tampons. When they get popular boy Tommy Ross (William Katz) to be her date for the prom, the stage is set for some heart-rending cruelty and fiery retribution. De Palma expertly uses split screens, slow motion, color filters, and tracking shots to imbue the proceedings with a haunting, allegorical elegance. Piper Laurie plays Carrie's mentally ill, devoutly Christian mom; she's brilliant, as is Spacek. John Travolta has a memorable pre-SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER role as one of the girls' beer-guzzling boyfriends. There was finally a sequel in 1999, as well as a short-lived Broadway musical.

Theatrical Release: November 3, 1976.

5 stars Great horror flick!
I saw this in the movie theater back in 1976. It was great! It scared the hell out of me, especially the mother. The grave scene at the very end, made me jump out of my seat! I haven't seen the remake, but there's no way it could be anywhere near as good as this one!

5 stars Beautiful
This is one of the best movies ever. I can relate to Carrie and sympathize with her and the way she feels. It always makes me happy when she is crowned queen. She deserves it. As for Sue, it shows that there are decent people in this world. It was really nice of her to give up her prom to show Carrie that she actually cares.

3 stars Jacob's Raitings
Carrie was a good movie, not the best movie, but it was close to the book. this movie was both scary and entertaining. Stephen King Started his career with this book. As for the movie well I like this version better than the remade 2002 version because in the remade one Carrie Lives! OH MY GOD but I think the story like the book and this movie is the best one. Definatley one to buy, I rait it on 3 stars for a good movie

5 stars HORROR AT ITS BEST
The novel was written by Stephen King and the film was directed by Brian De Palma. Carrie was destined for greatness. This is a psychologically compelling horror film which showcases a teenage girl who is very shy and confused about life. She is very insecure and very uncertain about many things involved with life. Her name is Carrie and she is living with her crazy Mother and finds it hard to fit in with everyday life because she lacks everyday knowledge. She also employs telekinetic powers and she is able to move things with her mind. Her peers are very cruel and treat her with disrespect because they think she's a weirdo. After she feels that she is finally fitting in and enjoying her life and standing up to her crazed Mother, a prank gets pulled at the Senior Prom and she is humiliated by having pigs blood poured all over her in front of the entire senior year. However, Carrie gets her revenge and uses her powers to extract revenge on everybody and allows them to feel the pain that she had felt for her whole life. The ending of the film is a classic set piece and probably what the film is most remembered for. This was probably Sissy Spacek’s greatest performance ever. This film is a fantastic exercise in suspense and emotional drama. This definitive revenge horror flick employs a perfect mix of adolescent development and religious sequences combined with horror and suspense. This is Brian De Palma at his best. Own this classic 1976 horror film which opened the doors for many other teenage horror films to come after it.

Based on the best-selling Stephen King novel, Carrie "catches the mind, shakes it and refuses to let it go" (Time)! Starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie (in Oscar®-nominated* performances), John Travolta and Amy Irving, this ultimate revenge fantasy is "absolutely spellbinding" (Roger Ebert), "outrageously witty" (Los Angeles Times) and one of the all-time great horror classics! At the center of the terror is Carrie (Spacek), a tortured high-school misfit with no confidence, no friends...and no idea about the extent of her secret powers of telekinesis. But when her psychotic mother and sadistic classmates finally go too far, the once-shy teen becomes an unrestrained, vengeance-seeking powerhouse who, with the help of her 'special gift,' causes all hell to break loose in a famed cinematic frenzy of blood, fire and brimstone!

E. Elias Mehrige's SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE explores the fictional premise that the star of director F.W. Murnau's 1922 German expressionist horror film, NOSFERATU, was an actual vampire. When the dictatorial Murnau (John Malkovich) sets about filming his monster masterpiece, he makes a Faustian deal and enlists the grotesque, reclusive Max Schreck (Willem Dafoe) to play the rodentlike Count Orlok. Schreck proceeds to both horrify and fascinate the unwitting cast and crew---including producer Albin Grau (Udo Kier), actor Gustav von Wangenheim (Eddie Izzard), and actress Greta Schroeder (Catherine McCormack)--who, at first, believe Schreck is merely an eccentric actor. As the production continues, however, mysterious accidents and deaths begin to reveal why Schreck never gets any makeup. From its lavish opening sequence to Murnau's filming of the final scene, Mehrige's movie serves as a tribute not only to the original NOSFERATU but to ...

Despite being cancelled after only 18 episodes, the subsequent cult built up around the FREAKS AND GEEKS television series has seen the show's popularity skyrocket. Internet campaigns and strong word-of-mouth have lead to a burgeoning fanbase which has clamored for the release of the shows. Now finally available, the program is presented here in its entirety. Set in 1980, the show ostensibly follows two groups of high school kids (the "freaks" and the "geeks") as they attempt to navigate the pitfalls of adolescence. Among the colorful characters are the Geeks: Bill, Sam, and Neil, three awkward pre-teen friends undergoing some excruciating, but funny, growing pains. The Freaks are a group who revolve around Sam's older. army-jacket-clad sister, Lindsay, a talented mathematician undergoing various crises of confidence involving life, college, and her on-again, off-again stoner boyfriend. It all adds up to a potent mixture that is moving, funny, and grounded in a reality which accurately captures the often painful experience of being a teenager. The complete Emmy award-winning series about the trials and tribulations of high school outsiders in 1980 Michigan. ...

This searing examination of the Enron accounting scandal reveals the psychology of greed and corporate corruption that facilitated the company's rise to power and also its fall. When Enron went bankrupt in 2001, the principals walked away millionaires--but later faced legal proceedings and jail sentences. Meanwhile, many employees and investors were left with nothing, not even their 401k retirement savings. Shedding light on the new economy of the 1990s when predictions and book-cooking flourished without actual profits, the film shows how it was not Enron alone but a network of bankers, traders, and accountants who turned a blind eye to the company's clearly suspicious numbers. CEO Ken Lay and top dogs Jeff Skilling and Andy Fastow give candid interviews that illustrate their skill at deflecting hard questions and egotistically boasting about the company's success. In one of the company's cold and calculated moves--which caused the California power outages, and lead to the ousting of governor Gray Davis--Enron employees are shown laughing at forest fires. Unbelievable footage of employees reveals unbridled greed, lust for risk-taking, and guiltless cheating, all while thinking they could never be caught. Finally, a few brave whistle-blowers stepped forward, including Bethany McLean, author ...

Ghosts invade suburbia in this 1982 horror film from director Tobe Hooper (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) and producer Steven Spielberg. Life in the Freeling family's tract home is comfortably bland, but frisky poltergeists soon put a little excitement into their daily routine--moving furniture and communicating with their youngest daughter, Carol Anne, through the television set. Unfortunately, harmless pranks quickly turn nasty and the previously friendly ghosts kidnap Carol Anne, trapping her in the spirit world. To win the child back, the family calls in a team of parapsychologists and a psychic who conducts an elaborate exorcism. The apocalyptic finale is deliciously macabre, and pushed the limits ...

Loosely based on the comic book miniseries of the same by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones, WANTED, directed by Timur Bekmambetov, follows anxiety-prone office drone Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) as he is inducted into the Fraternity, a clan of powerful killers that counted his father as a member. Pursued by rogue agent Cross (Thomas Kretschmann), Wesley is trained by the sleek, sexy Fox (Angelina Jolie) and the charismatic Sloan (Morgan Freeman), among others, to be just as proficient and deadly as his father. Once Wesley becomes a master assassin, he must confront Cross, and contend with the stunning ramifications of that encounter. Straying rather far from the WANTED comic's supervillain-centric premise, WANTED runs with the edgy Eastern European aesthetic of Russian helmer Bekmambetov, who garnered international recognition with the stylish vampire epic NIGHT WATCH. While Jolie is a gleefully destructive presence in her action-heavy scenes, the film belongs to McAvoy, who transforms from milquetoast to manhunter with verve and charm. And like the similarly themed THE MATRIX before it, WANTED also showcases some eye-catching special effects, most notably ...
