Blues Traveler have come a long way from their jam-band origins, their music evolving slowly but surely over the years, and NORTH HOLLYWOOD SHOOTOUT seems like the culmination of that journey. Far from the riff-based blues-rock tunes and extended, groove-happy jams of their early days, NORTH HOLLYWOOD SHOOTOUT features the band's most thoughtful, concise, melodically sophisticated songcraft to date. Subtle textures and ballad tempi dominate the album, though Blues Traveler kicks into some hard-hitting rock & roll on a couple of tunes. SHOOTOUT tells the world that this is more than just a band with a "sound," and it presents the songs to back that assertion up.
