Suddenly its astronauts are taken from the craft to an abandoned desert hangar where NASA's director tells them their life-support systems have failed. Because the mission's success is crucial to future space programs, he orders them to take part in a simulated Martian landing as cameras roll. If they refuse, their families will be harmed. Elliott Gould, James Brolin, Sam Waterston, O.J. Simpson, Hal Holbrook, Karen Black, and Telly Savalas star. The government attempts to fake a mission to Mars, but when the astronauts learn that part of the scenario includes a "tragic accident" on the way home, they attempt an escape. A forerunner of the non-stop action suspense movie with terrific aerial stunts and an all-star cast. In order to protect the reputation of the American space program, a team of scientists stages a phony Mars landing. Willingly participating in the deception are a trio of well-meaning astronauts, who become liabilities when their space capsule is reported lost on re-entry. Now, with the help of a crusading reporter, they must battle a sinister conspiracy that will stop at nothing to keep the truth a secret.
Capricorn One Reviews: "...Gould and Telly Savalas are teamed...The duo is a bullseye...[Savalas delivers] a delightful cameo..."
-- Hege., Variety "A snappy script, cameos by Karen Black and Telly Savalas, well-paced action and a nice line in post-Watergate paranoia."

Capricorn One Movie Review Savalas steals the show. This movie is so good it hurts. Elliot Gould in brilliant form discovering there is something amiss with this flight to Mars. He sets out to uncover the truth and has various obstacles thrown in his way when the guys behind the doomed mission find out someone is on to them. The End of the movie is stunning when Gould's character hires a guy to fly a plane, Albain - played by the superb Telly Savalas, to look for any clues. James Brolin and Hal Holbrook are also terrific. Not to be missed. Submitted by Martin (Glasgow, Scotland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful. A Must For Any 70's Movie Fan I rented Capricorn One, expecting a space drama. Although I missed my Sci Fi fix for the day, this movie rocked. Classic 70s action, great filming, and excellent incorporation of the political atmosphere of the day. Submitted by lisa (MO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Capricorn One review
$13.55 This swinging spoof of Ian Fleming's spy hero features an aging James Bond (David Niven), reluctantly dragged out of retirement to chase down the evil crime clique called SMERSH. In order to confound the forces led by the villainous Le Chiffre (Orson Welles), the Secret Service enlists five other agents, also under the name "Bond," and all six converge on the titular casino. Meanwhile, Woody Allen, as the retiring secret agent's nephew, causes havoc at every turn.
The gleefully chaotic product of five directors, numerous screenwriters, and the ...

$9.69 Personnel: Nigel Benjamin (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar); Ray Major (vocals, guitar, slide guitar); Morgan Fisher (vocals, piano, electric piano, keyboards, synthesizer, glockenspiel, bass guitar, background vocals); Pete Watts (vocals, bass guitar, background vocals); Dale Buffin Griffin (vocals, drums); Ray Majors (guitar); Stan Tippins (background vocals). Unknown Contributor Role: Nigel Benjamin. Few bands have a sadder coda than Mott the Hoople. Top of their game for three glorious years, one of the U.K.'s best-loved bands for six, the group should have come to a grinding halt the moment frontman Ian Hunter walked out. They'd lost key members before, of course: organist Verden Allen, who composed one of the finest songs in the band's entire repertoire, the churning "Soft Ground"; guitarists Mick Ralphs and Ariel Bender, both of whom drove the group to distinctly different, but similarly spellbinding peaks during their years of lieutenanthood. But Hunter was different. Not only did he sing the majority of the songs, he wrote them as well, while his public image -- long fizzy hair, omnipresent shades -- was so universally well-known that, to many onlookers (the staunchest fans included), he WAS Mott the Hoople. Rhythm section Overend Watts ...

The Bee Gees: Barry Gibb (vocals, guitar); Maurice Gibb (vocals, piano, organ, bass); Robin Gibb (vocals). Recorded at IBC Studios, London, England. ODESSA is widely regarded as the Bee Gees' finest pre-SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER moment, an elaborate (the original LP had a red velveteen cover), baroque-pop masterpiece on the order of the Zombies' ODESSEY AND ORACLE or even the Beatles' SGT. PEPPER. The ambitious arrangements and elegant-but accessible songcraft of tunes like "Melody Fair," "Lamplight," and "First of May" certainly bears out this estimation. Accordingly, ODESSA has been given a deluxe treatment here, with two full discs of bonus material appended to the original album. While there are a couple of never-before-heard songs amid the bonus tracks, most of discs two and three are occupied by mono mixes and alternate versions of the album's classic tunes, offering fresh glimpses of a cult classic.
