| | No-Man Together We're Stranger CD No-Man Discography of CDs
Accomplished but slow, Together We're Stranger further envelops the epic arrangements of its predecessor, Returning Jesus. The echo of Talk Talk shrouds this album in that the bouncy pop of such material as "Teardrop Falls" is now long gone to the extent you wonder if they'll ever revisit such terrain again. Like Talk Talk, No-Man have now become moodsmiths of the minimal and the epic. The title song is one of the stronger pieces, beginning with what sounds like a power tool. Twenty seconds later the piece opens to a wider sonic pasture which, over eight minutes, explores an emotional terrain which is very English (not that they've sounded like anything but over their decade-long existence). This is melancholic stuff with a sensual warmth. "The City in a Hundred Ways" is the recurring theme running through Stranger's only mid-paced song, "All the Blue Changes" to "City" itself -- a mournful, clarinet-flavored piece leading into the standout and emotionally charged "Things I Want to Tell You"; the highlight of the album reveals itself in the two-and-a-half-minute electronic epilogue. Steven Wilson's academic musicality has studied the best parts of William Orbit's Pieces in a Modern Style with a looped cathedral-bell motif over wispy synth and crashing waves. The last three songs are acoustic-based tracks of which only the lilting "Back When You Were Beautiful" holds any No-Man traits; it was better done as "All That You Are." ~ Kelvin Hayes

Together We're Stranger music CDs
$13.75 A founding leader of the influential cult band the dB's, Chris Stamey has spent most of last 15 years producing other people's discs (Alejandro Escovedo, Yo La Tengo, Whiskeytown) rather than creating his own. Not counting a 1995 instrumental album, Travels in the South marks his first record since 1991, when he released both the solo Fireworks and Mavericks, a duet disc with his old dB's partner Peter Holsapple. South, however, shows little sign of rustiness. The album kicks off with the glorious "14 Shades of Green," a chimey gem that takes a nostalgic look at a hometown. This leadoff track also establishes the theme of traveling that runs through the disc. Songs like "Insomnia," "Ride," and the title track all touch upon the feeling of life in transit. The sublime "In Spanish Harlem" takes a Paul Simon-esque look at New York City but with a decidedly eased-back Southern tempo. The entire album, in fact, rides along at a leisurely pace, with the majority of songs surpassing the four-minute mark. But Stamey uses his production savvy to build ...

$12.75 Taking its cue from late-1970s British art-punks like Wire and Gang of Four, Boston's Mission of Burma developed a unique, angular sound that was at once pre-eminent in and definitive of the burgeoning US post-punk scene. For a band whose initial ...

Together We're Stranger music CDs
$14.79 The airy arrangements and exotic rhythms throughout La Varieté sound like low-budget approximations of Antonio Carlos Jobim, although "A Life in the Day Of...Pt. 1 & 2" is a stab at African high life, and "Nostalgia" minus the vocals could be one of U2's early instrumental B-sides. In short, the album is nothing like what you would expect ...

Together We're Stranger music CDs
$15.95 As a child, I always loved to sing and was very often found on our backyard swing...singing, singing and singing. I soon joined my mother, Robin, taking singing lessons and performing with a group of talented performers called “Happiness Is…” I learned from her, the joy of sharing my gift with others. My very first collection of songs was recorded in my basement for a high school Theatre Arts project. I had always been a fan of Judy Garland, so I picked my favorites (Embraceable You, The Trolley Song, Look for The Silver Lining… just to name a few) and with the help of my dear neighbor Helen Hughes on the piano, I was on my way. I still have that old dusty cassette tape with its microphone pops, vocal mistakes and tiny stars that my teacher, Mr. Brown marked beside his favorite songs. The seed was planted. As my career unfolded, I was fortunate to follow my heart and the opportunities that were presented to me. I was contracted by the prestigious Stratford Festival to be part of the original cast of The Mikado. The show was widely received and after its season at Stratford, Mirvish Productions took the show on an international tour with extended performances across Canada, and throughout the United States, including on Broadway in New York City. This production also had the honor of opening the Old Vic in London England. It was an exciting time to be traveling the world and working with such amazing performers and meeting people like Princess Anne and Pierre Elliott Trudeau who came to see our show. The Mikado was nominated for 2 Tony Awards and 7 Dora Mavor Moore Awards. While the stage has been my first love, I also had the privilege to work with producer /director Kevin Sullivan who brought the much loved Anne of Green Gables series to the screen. I was cast as the “other woman”, Elvira Evans in the Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel. I was then cast by Kevin Sullivan to play Evelyn Morrow is his film Lantern Hill. It was wonderful to be involved in these period pieces and to go back in time...oh the costumes…just heaven!!During this time, I was in the studio recording my own songs. I was pleased to be recognized with a New Talent Award and 2 Songwriter’s Awards from FACTOR and to be included on 2 of their Compilation CD’s, which were distributed across Canada. It was at this time that I was drawn back to the idea of a collection of timeless classics. This is when the concept of “Treasured Memories Music” was born. I wanted to create something very special, something that would warm the heart and calm the soul. I felt with the challenges in our world and in our lives that we needed something gentle…something to take us back to our own treasured memories. In my search to start \"Treasured Memories: Quiet Moments\", I was introduced to the talented David Warrack. David’s performance on the piano, with his rich arrangements of these 30’s & 40’s timeless classics helped make my dream ...
