Magnetic is a music /environmental CD set in northern Canada and Alaska. It is the second of the music /environmental series - the first \"Over My head \" , the third \"Antarctica\" and the fourth CD \"Machine Works\" . This CD began in 1984 when I was asked to be an artistic observer on a scientific expedition to the Chukchi Sea - north of the Bering Strait , to study the feeding habits of gray whales and walrus. I got my diving license and worked with the scientists collecting samples . In off hours I collected many sounds from the north . Over the next five years , I continued these expeditions and chasing the north. The CD was released in 1990 and was nominated for Juno Award in the pop instrumental categorey the following year. | | Van Der Graaf Generator World Record CD (1976) Import; Remastered
Magnetic North music CDs
$19.79 All songs written by Peter Hammill except "Wondering" (Banton/Hammill).
Released in the latter half of 1976 as a half-hearted attempt at some sort of commercial focus in the U.K. and U.S., World Record suffers from several ailments: there was much tension in the band at this point, particularly between leader Peter Hammill and keyboardist Hugh Banton. In the end, the band would split apart, with Banton and wind player David Jackson leaving, while Hammill and drummer Guy Evans recruited replacements. World Record is very much a divided record, sounding beautifully clean, but lacking in both performance and focus. Evans plays as well as ever, but without the creative spark of earlier records; Hammill, meanwhile, was responsible for the rambling, scattered "Meurglys III (The Songwriter's Guild)," a lumbering piece named after one of his guitars. Of the cuts present, the best are the operatic "Masks," which mines one of Hammill's favorite themes, that of identity, and "Wondering," written ...
| | Kendall Payne Grown CD (2004)
Magnetic North songs
$18.99 When the debut album "Jordan's Sister" by unknown artist Kendall Payne hit the stands... people took notice. A 1999 press release read, "She sings and plays with a passion that belies her age and she writes with the insight of a young woman who has lived beyond her years." The album sold close to 100,000 units, and its music was featured in films including "Never Been Kissed" staring Drew Barrymore and "Beautiful" with Minnie Driver, and the single "Supermodels" was selected as the theme song for the WB's hit TV show "Popular." In 2001 Payne was honored with a prestigious Dove Award for Best Alternative Rock Album. After co-authoring the book Mirror, Mirror published by Zondervan and touring with the likes of Lilith Fair, Dido, Third Day, Delerious (and many more), it seemed that everyone was beginning to understand what made this artist so special. However, due to trying circumstances in the music business and an unexpected regime change at Capitol Records, Payne and the label parted ways in 2002. "Every great songwriter needs fuel for their fire," she says, "and there is no greater fuel than the ache of rejection. I just never bargained for how hot the flame could get." Shortly after leaving Capitol, she also parted ways with her management company and Christian label counterpart. Once the darling of the industry and now alone in the music business, she recounts, "I found myself standing in my living room, ironing something while in my pajamas, wishing the phone would ring. It was quite humbling, I must say. I had made and found my identity in being an artist. If I wasn't that anymore... I didn't know who I was." And so began a season of soul-searching. Payne remembers, "It was a very dark place for me, but in retrospect I would not trade it for all ...

| | Achille Lauro CD (2008)
Magnetic North songs
$12.69 The Achille Lauro, formerly the Willem Ruys, was a passenger liner. It is most remembered for its 1985 hijacking. Ordered in 1938, her keel was laid in 1939 at Vlissingen, Netherlands, for Rotterdamsche Lloyd. Interrupted by World War II and two bombing raids, the ship was not launched until July 1946 as the Willem Ruys. Completed in late 1947, she began her maiden voyage on December 2, 1947. She was 192 metres (630 ft) in length, 25 metres (82 ft) in beam, and had a draught of 8.9 metres (29.2 ft) and measured 21,110 long tons (23,643 S/T/21,449 M/T). She could accommodate 900 passengers. She had 8 Sulzer engines, driving 2 propellers. In 1964, she was sold to the Star Lauro (Now MSC Cruises) and renamed the Achille Lauro (after the former mayor of Naples, Achille Lauro). The same year, Star Lauro also acquired the Achille Lauro's sister ship, Angelina Lauro. Extensively rebuilt and modernized, Achille Lauro entered service in 1966. The Achille Lauro was destroyed by fire on November 30, 1994, and sank as a result of the fire three days later on December 2 [1]. Oddly, the Angelina Lauro was also eventually destroyed by fire."From the crooning, swinging swagger of "Dreams We've ...
