(1 Customer Review)
Although Everlast is best known as the voice behind 1990s hip-hop act House of Pain, his solo career in the 2000s has leaned more in the direction of non-rap-oriented roots music. This is certainly true of 2008's LOVE, WAR & THE GHOST OF WHITEY FORD, which finds Everlast moving fully into alt rock territory. The singer manages to flex the muscle of his earlier incarnation throughout the disc, which crackles with dark, ominous energy. Surging rockers like "Die In Yer Arms" and dense, bluesy grooves like "Everyone" are emblematic of Everlast's new direction, while a tongue-in-cheek cover of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues," complete with recognizable hip-hop beats and samples, offers some lighthearted relief.

Love, War & The Ghost Of Whitey Ford album
$12.35 For WHITE TRASH BEAUTIFUL, Everlast's third album since his reinvention as an acoustic-guitar-slinging storyteller, the former House of Pain member also known as Erik Schrody further embraces his rootsy, down-home leanings. The opening track, "Blinded By the Sun," expertly sets the tone for the album (and proves to be one ...
| | Albert King Born Under A Bad Sign CD (1967)
Love, War & The Ghost Of Whitey Ford CD music
$9.75 The giant left-handed guitarist was no stranger to the recording studio by 1966, but Albert King had still to make his mark with the record-buying public. When he linked up with the cream of Stax's Memphis musicians, including Booker T. And The MGs and the Memphis Horns, that connection was made. "Laundromat Blues", "Oh, Pretty Woman" and "Crosscut Saw" set the scene for "Born Under A Bad Sign" and "The Hunter", which quickly found their way into the repertoires of Cream and Free. The convolutions of his guitar style were perfectly complemented by the trademark Stax funk rhythms. ...
| | Sean Costello Sean's Blues CD (2009)
Love, War & The Ghost Of Whitey Ford music CDs
$13.49 Sean Costello is a brand name to blues aficionados. He died tragically in 2008, on the eve of his 29th birthday, just when it began to look as though his star was finally breaking into the masses. Costello's knowledge of blues and jazz--especially jump and swing jazz--was encyclopedic. This compilation collects tracks from all of three of his albums recorded between 1996 and 2002, but the majority of this 20-track set is unreleased, with smoking live cuts recorded in Chicago and Marquette, Michigan. There is some unreleased studio gems recorded in his hometown of Atlanta as well. Costello's best-known band featured harmonica man Paul Linden (who also doubled on piano), organist and pianist Matt Wauchope, bassist Melvin Zachary, and drummer Terrence Prather. These players appear on the majority of these cuts, though there are some guest spots, including a few tracks with ...
| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Love, War & The Ghost Of Whitey Ford songs
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You Don't Love Me." The only real disappointment here is that Stills, a far better singer than Kooper, never opens his mouth.
