Lovers of jazz fusion and devotees of the possibilities of the electric bass have reason to thank the heavens for the arrival of THUNDER. A collaboration between three of the genre's reigning heavyweights-Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and Victor Wooten-THUNDER offers up a cornucopia of low-end sonic playfulness and mastery. Bela Fleck & The Flecktones Left of Cool CD (1998)
Jingle All the Way album for sale All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
"Almost 12" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition. "Big Country" was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
Do yourself a favor and forget about the question, "What is this music?" Your enjoyment of this recording will only further increase upon realizing that these freak-o's don't necessarily know quite what it is that they're playing, either. All the better--the lack of self-consciousness is what makes this concoction feel natural. For the record, however, the identifiable ingredients include funk, pop, folk, jazz and, of course, Fleck's masterful, multi-colored banjo-playing. Tight arrangements meet tastefully with whim throughout.
LEFT OF COOL opens with the frantic funk-out entitled, "Throwdown At The Hoedown," an instrumental replete with foreboding melodies and wildly fast bursts of banjo- and bass-playing (indeed, Van Halen-style fretboard tapping has arrived on the banjo). Other tunes, such as the smooth-sailing "Step Quiet," offer vocal affirmations pleasing to the weary ear. A playful sense of exchange often leaps up between bass-samurai Wooten and the various horns assembled, weaving in and out of melodic conversations and inspired octave passages with glee. And, present as always, is Future Man playing his infamous synthaxe drumitar--reason enough to have a go at this odd little sonic gathering.
Additional personnel includes: Dave Matthews, Amy Grant (vocals).
Engineers: Roger Nichols, Richard Battaglia, Bela Fleck.

Bela Fleck & The Flecktones: Bela Fleck (gut-string guitar, guitar, acoustic & electric banjos, nylon-string & gut-string banjos, sitar banjo, mandolin, keyboards, Theremin); Future Man (vocals, percussion, synthaxe drumitar, samples); Jeff Coffin (soprano, tenor & baritone saxophones, saxello, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet); Victor Lemonte Wooten (fiddle, cello, acoustic, electric & fretless basses).

Victor Wooten Palmystery CD (2008)
Jingle All the Way CD music As the virtuoso bass man for Bela Fleck, Victor Wooten has become a hero to four- (and five-) stringers everywhere. On his own, he creates a sound that largely rejects the rootsier side of Fleck's sound, embracing instead the funk and jazz-fusion flavors that have already been flowing through him for many years. Wooten's been making solo albums since the mid-'90s, but PALMYSTERY is one of his most wide-ranging efforts yet, incorporating soul/R&B, gospel, bluesy guitar licks (courtesy of Keb' Mo'), and of course the death-defying thumb acrobatics for which the world-class bassist is best known

Bela Fleck / Edgar Meyer Music for Two CDs (2004)
Jingle All the Way buy CD music Banjo player Bela Fleck and bassist Edgar Meyer are genre-benders extraordinaire--both incorporate elements of classical, jazz, bluegrass, and free improvisation into their unique, technically advanced music. On MUSIC FOR TWO, a selection of live performances recorded between 2001 and 2003, the duo displays their remarkable penchant for combining European classical structure with looser, improvisation-based American forms in a tightly knit, sympathetic fashion.
Fleck's skill on the banjo is so formidable, and draws on such a wide range of musical influences, that the instrument is virtually liberated from its conventional associations (namely straight time and bluegrass motifs). Meyer's double bass, whether plucked or bowed, proves the perfect complement to the thin, high-end sound of the banjo. At times studied and delicate, at others free and furious, Meyer and Fleck range across the musical map on their own compositions (many of which were written collaboratively), as well as on treatments of Bach (an arrangement of "The Well-Tempered Clavier"), Eccles, and even Miles Davis. Wit, precision, and top-drawer musicianship abound on this eclectic live set, which includes a bonus DVD featuring footage of the duo in concert.
Includes a bonus DVD of film footage and audio tracks.
Includes liner notes by Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer.
Incl.Bonus DVD W/2 Bonus Trax +"Obstinato" Tour Film.
Personnel: Bela Fleck (guitar, banjo); Edgar Meyer (piano, double bass).

Bela Fleck Throw Down Your Heart, Tales from the Acoustic Planet, Vol. 3: Africa Sessions CD (2009)
Jingle All the Way songs The discography of banjo maestro Bela Fleck is full of eclectic music that ranges from traditional bluegrass to forward-thinking jazz to world fusion. THROW DOWN YOUR HEART is the third volume in Fleck's TALES FROM THE ACOUSTIC PLANET series, one that documents his travels in Africa. Fleck recorded in Mali, Senegal, Gambia, and Uganda, among other countries, drawing on the musical traditions of those countries and adding his own restlessly inventive imagination. Among his 40 guests are Baba Maal, Toumani Diabate, and Oumou Sangare, along with numerous outstanding musicians not known outside their native countries. The results don't have much in common with Fleck's wackier hybrid forms; instead the music is sincere, straightforward, and very beautiful. Fleck also made a film of his sojourn, for which THROW DOWN YOUR HEART serves as the soundtrack.
