Beautiful, however......
As previously mentioned, this is definitely not the original 1971 mix that I remember and was looking for. Close, but different.

The source of the "pop" side of CSNY
Graham Nash is unique in the annals of history, for he is one of the few artists that I know of from the sixties and seventies who started as a British Invasion-band member and ended up an acclaimed singer-songwriter with the U.S. 's first real super-group, Crosby Stills & Nash.

I love this album, but ...
The original album has a 5-star-quality undoubtedly. But this package is somewhat disappointing because the sounds of most songs are different from original mixings in 1971.

Songs for Beginners buy CD music Recorded live at the Fillmore East, New York, New York on March 12-13, 1971. Originally released on Capricorn. Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24-karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box. The original Fillmore East album is one of the finest live documents of the rock era, capturing the original line-up of one of the '70s' tightest outfits before they were cruelly robbed of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley. Taken from five 1971 performances at New York's fabled Fillmore East, the extended and effortlessly melodic workouts of "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" and "Whipping Post" still have the power to rivet and move. On display here is the Allmans' fabled chemistry at its finest. The band not only rocks, it rolls, swings, and stretches out in exploratory, jazzy passages. The dual guitar interplay of Duane Allman and Dickey Betts glides effortlessly over the propulsive rhythm section of Oakley and twin drummers Jaimoe and Butch Trucks, while Greg Allman's powerful blues voice and melodic keyboard work provides the icing on the cake. Though the later-released THE FILLMORE CONCERTS presents these songs in their original entirety, AT FILLMORE EAST, with its seamless edits of multiple performances, may be the superior recording. It highlights all the glint and sparkle of what still ranks among the best jamming committed to record. The Allman Brothers Band: Gregg Allman (vocals, piano, organ); Duane Allman (guitar, slide guitar); Dickey Betts (guitar); Berry Oakley (bass instrument); Jai Johanny Johanson (drums, congas, timbales); Butch Trucks (drums, timpani). Personnel: Berry Oakley (bass guitar); Jaimoe Johnson (drums, congas, timbales). Recording information: The Fillmore East (03/12/1971/03/13/1971). Photographer: Jim Marshall . Songs for Beginners CD music Though this 1971 release was issued at a time of enormous commercial success for the Moody Blues, EVERY GOOD BOY DESERVES FAVOUR contains some of the band's most adventurous music. The band had recently discovered the Moog synthesizer, and its presence is felt on much of the album. The opening "Procession" instantly sets this collection's experimental course, landing like a spacecraft among reams of cascading synthesizer before evolving into a soundscape of cricket chirps, thunderclaps, and tribal chanting. The next three minutes contain one of the most cathartic sonic explorations the band has ever put forth. Other standout tracks include "After You Came," which features tessellated vocal layering and bluesy guitar work; "Emily," a song that John Lodge wrote for his daughter; and the rapturously symphonic "You Can Never Go Home." Rich, complex, powerful, and beautifully produced, EVERY GOOD BOY DESERVES FAVOUR brings together all of the Moody Blues' best qualities in one album, standing as the culmination of their fine '60s work, and the standard-bearer for the music to come. Import-only SACD/Hybrid pressing. 2007 digitally remastered digipack edition of this 1971 classic featuring the original stereo mix and the 5.1 Surround Sound mix plus added tracks along with an expansive booklet containing sleeve notes and rare photographs. Features two previously unreleased tracks: 'The Story In Your Eyes' (Original Version) and 'The Dreamer'. 11 tracks total. Decca. Contains 2 Bonus Tracks. The Moody Blues: Mike Pinder (keyboards); John Lodge (bass instrument); Graeme Edge (percussion); Justin Hayward , Ray Thomas. If I Could Only Remember My Name CD (1971) 4.3 stars Top Seller

Songs for Beginners songs For his highly anticipated 1971 solo debut, David Crosby recorded a unique, eclectic, and willfully expansive album. The cream of early-70s California rock is assembled here, with the various celebrities joining together in an organic, collective approach that's embodied in the opener, the free-spirited jam of "Music Is Love." Throughout the record, Crosby moves from the sauntering Western shuffle of "Cowboy Movie" to the wondrously spiritual harmonies of "Tamalpais High (At About 3)" and, eventually, the hallowed chants of "I'd Swear There Was Somebody Here." Musically the album has an exploratory, almost jazzy feel, with its bright production cloaking the listener in acoustic strains and lush, layered harmonies. These qualities perfectly evoke the relaxed, hazy California lifestyle of the time. For all its dreaminess though, IF I COULD ONLY REMEMBER MY NAME rarely missteps, and the haunting melancholy of songs like "Laughing" and "Orleans" give the record a depth and durability that surpasses other recordings of the time. The result is an excellent, highly underrated album. This set includes his transcendent 1971 solo CD remastered and expanded with a previously unreleased song/bonus track featuring Jerry Garcia on guitar. The DVD features a stellar 5.1 surround sound mix of the entire album and bonus track plus a photo gallery, including many previouly unseen images and more. Includes bonus tracks. Personnel: David Crosby (vocals, guitar); Jerry Garcia (guitar, pedal steel guitar); Graham Nash (guitar, piano, background vocals); Neil Young (guitar, vibraphone, bass instrument, congas, background vocals); Jorma Kaukonen, Paul Kantner (guitar); Laura Allan (autoharp); Gregg Rolie (piano); Jack Casady, Phil Lesh (bass instrument); Michael Shrieve, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann (drums, percussion); David Freiberg, Grace Slick, Joni Mitchell (background vocals).

Songs for Beginners album for sale In fact, the whole night seems designed by the infamously raw producer David Briggs: tracks are brisk, mistakes are kept, the sound is rough, and every song sounds like a first take. And what a string of first takes: "So Begins the Task"--later released on MANASSAS--anticipates the finger-picked bleakness of DEJA VU's "4 & 20"; "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" finds particular starkness as a solo song despite the jubilant open chords; and "The Doctor Will See You Now" holds its own against anything in Young's catalog. While his songwriting and guitar playing are stellar, Stills's voice is equally stunning, with its tender, affecting rasp making an AM weeper like "Helplessly Hoping" sound tough. A rough gem of a listen, but a must-have for any fans of Stills or of Crosby, Stills & Nash. Over the years since Neil Young's godlike status has grown, it is easy to forget about the jaw-dropping breadth of talent that was Crosby, Stills & Nash, his sometimes former bandmates. Crosby had the silken voice and Nash the impossibly high harmony, but, as the remarkable official bootleg JUST ROLL TAPE: April 26th 1968 proves, Stephen Stills was a complete talent as a singer, writer, and guitarist. Reportedly recorded in one long take after he bribed the engineer of a Judy Collins session on the title date to continue recording long into the night, JUST ROLL TAPE is what its title suggests: a roll of inspired performances of songs from Still's embryonic catalog just before Crosby and Nash's angelic voices stormed the pop charts with him. Personnel: Stephen Stills (dobro).

Songs for Beginners CD music This is a DTS CD, which features DTS 5.1 Surround Sound technology and is playable on a DTS-capable 5.1 Surround Sound system. While the Moodies were never exactly a rocker's delight, SEVENTH SOJOURN, the seventh recording with the post-Denny Laine lineup, is perhaps their most ballad-heavy album. Ironically, the album's biggest hit, which would become one of the group's signature songs, was the uncharacteristically uptempo "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band." Elsewhere, appearances are equally deceiving; interpersonal tensions had developed in the band to the point where there wouldn't be another Moody Blues album for six years, but the album is full of slow, romantic musings, not signs of strife. As usual, it's Justin Hayward, he of the silky voice and heart-on-a-sleeve lyricism, who excels at all this romantic balladry, his contributions being the most melodic and affecting. John Lodge's aforementioned "I'm Just a Singer" is far and away the most energetic tune, but it closes the album and doesn't disturb the contemplative mood. Ironically, though the band was coming apart, they were also reaching new heights. Keyboardist Mike Pinder had traded in his Mellotron for its more sophisticated cousin, the Chamberlain, which provided an improved overall sound on SEVENTH SOJOURN. Import-only SACD/Hybrid pressing. 2007 digitally remastered digipack edition of this 1972 classic featuring the original stereo mix and the 5.1 Surround Sound mix plus added tracks along with an expansive booklet containing sleeve notes and rare photographs. Songs for Beginners buy CD music Over the course of its three discs, REFLECTIONS chronicles the long, rich career of Graham Nash. The set moves pretty much chronologically, beginning with the pop hits Nash scored in the 1960s with British Invasion heroes the Hollies before moving on to his work with Crosby, Stills & Nash (and sometimes Young), as well as the Crosby & Nash side project, and of course, Nash's solo recordings. Nash brought an all-important pop sensibility to CSN, resulting in classic tracks like "Marrakesh Express" and "Our House," but his more intense side came out on such cuts as "Cathedral" and "Military Madness," and this set includes all those and more. Hardcore Nash fans will be especially attracted to the numerous alternate mixes and previously unreleased songs that dot the track listing.
