A member of the Houston-based Screwed Up Click (affiliated with the much-heralded DJ Screw), Z-Ro has released a prodigious stream of recordings since his debut, LOOK WHAT YOU DID TO ME, appeared in 1998. CRACK (2008) adds to the rapper's underground reputation by demonstrating once more his verbal dexterity and command of the mic. Guest appearances by Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Mike D, and others make CRACK festive, but it's the stripped down, hard-hitting production and Z-Ro's fierce skills that make this a solid release.

Real Rap not phony hiphop Z-Ro makes music for the everyday person and it shows in every song. Crack ain't about drug selling, it's more positive but also tells it like it is. Z-Ro even produced most of the tracks on here. If you like Bun B, MJG and 8Ball, Juvenile, Scarface and Ice Cube then you gonna love Z-Ro.
Also check out the ABN cd he did with his cousin Trae and Z-Ro's last three cds have been lava too!!! Submitted by nvail (Dallas-Fort Worth, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 4 of 4 found this helpful.

Crack album
$14.29 A veteran of 10 albums at the age of 26 and an acclaimed member of Houston's Screwed Up Click, Z-Ro is much more complex than his surface or the simple intro of THE LIFE OF JOSEPH W. MCVEY may imply. Prolific output isn't the only thing he has in common with hardcore legends such as Too Short and Rap-A-Lot icon Scarface; Z-Ro also cuts his hard-edged street delivery with a haunting, almost hypnotic, introspection.
As this album reveals, Z-Ro deeply feels every word he sings. With "I Hate U B***h," the song is not so much a misogynistic rant as the pained, primal gut-reaction of a devoted man who's been hurt by the object of his affection (the line after the title is "I never thought I would say [it]"). On the melodic "Why?," he ponders the insanity of the thug life, wishing he could be loving and simple, spiritual and comfortable, but uncertain of how to find his escape. THE LIFE OF JOSEPH MCVEY reveals a tortured soul who concurrently knows himself and doesn't understand a thing, making this an achingly honest record that deserves to break Z-Ro through to new audiences.

| | Z-Ro Let The Truth Be Told CD (2005)
Crack CD music
$15.05 This sort of variety marks LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD, a wonderfully dynamic record that finds the under-the-radar rapper continuing to do what he does best, in both viciously dark and easy-going manners. On "Platinum," Z-Ro raps about the softer and harder sides of the business over a lush backing track, while on "I'm a Soldier" he reverts to edgy posturing with sufficient force. Although Z-Ro churns out records, he puts his heart into each one, and LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD stands as prime example of his skill.
Incredibly prolific Houston rapper Z-Ro opens his 2005 release, LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD, by paying homage to one of hip-hop's all-time classics, Eric B. & Rakim's "Paid in Full," musing over the familiar bassline (from Dennis ...

Crack songs
$9.79 Cursed's debut album (fittingly entitled One) is a conglomeration of short blasts of metallic fury and longer dirgelike numbers. Although the latter show a Neurosis influence, the larger influence would seem to be Integrity, while simultaneously reminiscent of the dirty, barreling-forward metallic hardcore from such scenes as Boston and upstate New York. The 11 songs speak out about blind patriotism, Christianity, relationships, and the other typical content one might expect from a hardcore album. The album surely gets its point across. ~ Kurt Morris

Crack CD music
$136.15 An exhaustive five-disc survey of Detroit's legendary Hank Ballard & the Midnighters, NOTHING BUT GOOD 1952-62 offers an impressively comprehensive glimpse into the roots of postwar rhythm and blues. Originally led by Houston born guitarist Cal Green, the group began life on the Federal label under the name the Royals, before the national exposure granted them by their first hit, the colossal "Work With Me Annie," forced them to change their name to in deference to the popular vocal group the Five Royales. ...

ACQUIRED TASTE was produced by Don Was and recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles. He might seem a strange producer for McClinton, who has had a consistent "sound" for decades, despite his wide array of stylistic adventures. But Was is better than anybody who has produced his records since the late '70s: he understands that McClinton's voice is showing signs of age, and that that's not a bad thing. Using members of the singer's road band and some crack studio aces, Was adds some killer rhythmic touches in this 13-song set that runs the gamut. Ultimately, ACQUIRED TASTE is one of, if not the best, studio outing McClinton's ...
