Back To Brazil CD music
$16.65 The sheer toughness -- and overall derivative -- nature of Killing Floor's debut album, issued six months after Led Zeppelin's debut in 1969 on the Spark label, is a wondrous contrast to the overly slick treatment American blues were given by British artists. All of these tunes, with the exception of one, are revamped versions of songs from the blues canon with different words. The lone "cover" in the set was written by Willie Dixon ...

Back To Brazil music CDs
$19.79 The first solo album from Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Daniel David Kirwan has the future producer for Human League and Buzzcocks, Martin Rushent, utilizing those skills here, as well as engineering. The sound is crystal clear, and a feather in the cap for Rushent as well as Kirwan. It starts off with an uncharacteristic "Ram Jam City," which has more Lindsey ...

| | Matt Alexander Early Recordings CD (2008)
Back To Brazil songs
$16.45 PRESS RELEASEAugust, 2008MATTHEW ALEXANDER RELEASES EARLIEST RECORDINGSSinger-songwriter, Matthew Alexander, has just released a new CD entitled “Matt Alexander: Early Recordings 1967-1977.” The CD contains 19 original songs that had their origins as either home recordings or demos made for record and publishing companies during the formative years of his musical career. “I see this record as a fulfillment of a promise made to my younger self” he told me. “It amazes me that these original audio recordings, some as old as forty years, have finally made it onto a CD. My stage name at the time I made these tapes was Matt Alexander and so I used that name for the disc.”Getting the songs from audio tape to digital groove was not an easy task, Alexander says. “In the years between when these recordings were made and now, the reel-to-reel tapes on which they existed were carted around the country in cardboard boxes, stored in basements and closets, susceptible to moisture, mildew and extreme temperatures”. In order to restore them, Alexander had to utilize the services of a Canadian audiophile, Richard Hess, who specializes in restoring old recordings. “In many cases, he had to “bake” tapes and, in some cases, just let them sit in the open air for weeks at a time”. Since none of Alexander’s reel-to-reel tape recorders worked, he had not heard some of these recordings for four decades. “It was like opening a time vault to hear them again”.The CD showcases Alexander’s original style of songwriting as well as his substantial talents as a guitarist and pianist. “I didn’t have the money to hire studio musicians so I played many of the instruments (bass, guitar and piano) myself.” The genres on the CD range from folk to folk-rock to country to classical. Perhaps the most arresting song is a song entitled “Bring Your Friends Home, David” a six and a half minute song about a young ...

$16.45 Dorothy was born and raised in Coconut Grove, Florida, in the days when there wasn\'t much there but sailboats, palm trees, and palmetto bugs the size of coolers. Like Bob Dylan, she ran away from home several times and was caught and brought back all but once. She was performing in little sleazy coffee houses by the time she was in high school. There she met Fred Neil, who took her under his wing and taught her some survival tactics and some neat tricks on the guitar. After a couple of years in Boston playing rock & roll in a strikingly original but unknown band, Dorothy moved to Berkeley, California, where she became active in musical theatre. She did the first nude scene ever in a UC Berkeley campus production. She co-wrote and co-directed a musical western adaptation of Shakespeare\'s \"The Tempest,\" which was performed in repertory at a summer theatre festival. She also performed in the singer-songwriter scene in the Bay Area. But it was way too cold.Dorothy moved to Maui in 1976 and never looked back. In 1979 she was a co-founder of the first recording studio on Maui. But in 1983 she took a sharp left turn into salt water. She and a friend salvaged the steel from the Wailuku Sugar Mill boiler and turned it into an ocean-going ketch, living out of the sea and working on boats. This culminated in a long ocean voyage as ship\'s cook in the M/S Edna, a floating general store that called at some of the most remote islands in the South Pacific, including Pitcairn Island, where Dorothy provided some of the music for their bicentennial show and dived on the wreck of HMS Bounty. Edna was the last of the great \"Trade Schooners\" under sail, an island tradition that goes back hundreds of years.Back on Maui again, Dorothy was breeding Golden Retrievers when she met Les Adam in 1995 and began writing music with him. Dorothy has also performed with a long list of Maui\'s finest bands, including Bill Laymon & Friends (aka Patriot Act), Willie Nelson\'s Planetary Bandits, the Road Alligators, and the Upcountry String Band, as well as being a charter member of the Mana\'o Radio Orchestra. She and Les perform their soulful original music in any format from a duo to a 7-piece band, horns and all. Dorothy\'s lyrics are strong and poignant and her vocals are powerful and captivating.Born ...
