Metal Church helped define the West-Coast thrash metal sound, and they've hung around long enough to see the style come back into vogue. Despite roots in thrash hotbed San Francisco and the pre-grunge Pacific Northwest, they developed their own unique style, still on display on THIS PRESENT WASTELAND. Opener "In The Company of Sorrow" is classic driving sheet-metal thrash, but follow-ups "Perfect Crime" and "Deeds of a Dead Soul" are both dramatic quasi-ballads with power-metal leanings and wailing vocals.
Metal Church: Ronny Munroe (vocals); Kurdt Vanderhoof (guitar, Mellotron, mini-Moog synthesizer); Rick Van Zandt (guitar); Steve Unger (bass instrument, background vocals); Jeff Plate (drum, percussion).
This Present Wasteland Music Metal Church This Present Wasteland Songs This Present Wasteland Music Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Classic metal at it's best! The boys keep churning out basic "old school" metal that can't be matched. Another solid effort, with catchy melodies and riffs that instantly have you tapping your fingers saying, "god, this is some awesome stuff". A bit Different A bit different from their last album, this one is much more laid back….some may say boring, but it just isn’t as heavy. I don't care much for the first 2 cuts, but after that it gets better- it’s still really damn well executed metal.
I think it has a touch of 70’s thrown in there but the trademark Metal Church guitar playing is all here- Choice cuts-Meet Your Maker & A War Never Won, Monster. Submitted by hurrifelix (Beacon, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not so good. Metal Church "s/t" of "The Dark" are better. This is little boring and too long cd.

Fair..... Still fairly heavy but boring with simplistic riffing and song structures. I still don't like Ronnie Munroe, he has no range or true power. I love old Metal Church.I think A Light In The Dark is the best with Munroe. They need to get heavier, nastier and more complex . They to need to really look back to the first few releases. They are "by the numbers" metal now. I want to love them but don't anymore. Not too good, not too bad...next... $13.45 Ah, Metal Church. Once one of America's most promising heavy metal bands, originally colleagues (rivals, even) of the mighty Metallica -- has any other band's career been as marked by internal chaos, confusion, and, let's face it, commercial indifference, as that of these Seattle natives? The odds ...

| | Rafael Manriquez Que Viva El Canto! Songs And Singers Of Chile CD (2008)
This Present Wasteland album
$13.29 Singer and multi-instrumentalist (though primarily a guitarist) Rafael Manriquez performs 25 songs from various strands of Chilean folk music on Que Viva el Canto! Songs and Singers of Chile. Though there are some traditional songs here, he emphasizes covers of contemporary folk compositions by Chilean writers and performers of the last half century (Victor Jara being the most internationally famous of these), as well as doing a few of his own. It's hard to assess the musical merit of Manriquez's interpretations without access to original or older versions, whether by the songwriters ...
