For both comic book fans and those who can't tell the Green Lantern from the Green Arrow, IRON MAN is the type of summer blockbuster whose appeal lasts far beyond the season. Robert Downey Jr. stars as Tony Stark, a billionaire playboy and genius who puts as much effort into chasing skirts as he puts into chasing his next big idea. A trip to Afghanistan to sell weapons quickly devolves into chaos, and Stark finds himself at the mercy of a warlord who wants him to build a missile. Instead, Stark creates a powerful suit of armor, turning him into Iron Man and allowing him to escape. When he returns to America, his assistant Pepper Pots (Gwyneth Paltrow), friend Rhodey (Terrence Howard), and right-hand man Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) all marvel at the change in the man they knew. IRON MAN is the first film to be self-financed by Marvel Studios, and they should be proud of their freshman effort. They didn't take any obvious routes with choosing the cast or crew, and it pays off. Director Jon Favreau, who also has a small role in the film, is best known for directing ELF, but his first action-driven effort is nearly flawless. Casting Downey was gutsy but inspired: this is his first big action picture as well, but the wit he displays in films such as the cult hit KISS KISS, BANG BANG works perfectly for the character of Stark. IRON MAN features nods to its beloved source material, as well as to the classic animated series of the 1960s. But even for the uninitiated, this film provides an interesting entry into the Marvel superhero's universe. Audiences who keep watching after the credits have rolled will be rewarded with a bonus scene.

Iron Man Reviews:

"[Favreau] draws on his humanistic gifts to make IRON MAN a compellingly down-to-earth superhero fantasy..." -- Grade: B+-- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

"There's winning comedy in Stark's suit-making misadventures, involving a dash of Wile E. Coyote slapstick and some terrific deadpanning from Downey Jr.. And the acting-powerhouse cast doesn't disappoint."-- Dan Jolin, Empire

"It has Downey's spirited turn going for it, as well as rousing sequences of various models of Iron Man armour in action....It makes a lot of clever decisions..."-- Kim Newman, Sight and Sound

3 stars out of 4 -- "Seeing Downey and Bridges duel is one of the film's primary delights..."-- Glenn Kenny, Premiere

4 stars out of 5 -- "A cad-to-crusader origin story, it's funny, smart, charming -- all the attributes of its star."-- Nev Pierce, Total Film

3 stars out of 4 -- "In IRON MAN, Downey's likably snide playboy character is cut from the same anti-hero cloth as Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow..."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today

"[I]t's got an energetic, engaging performance by Robert Downey Jr....This part has been nicely tailored to Downey's talents and is a great deal of fun as a result."-- Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

"The well-crafted IRON MAN is one of the smartest superhero films to come down the pike in some time....Robert Downey Jr. again reveal why he is one of the best actors of his generation..."-- Bill Zwecker, Chicago Sun-Times

"[A]n unusually good superhero picture....The film benefits from a script that generally chooses clever dialogue over manufactured catchphrases...and also from a crackerjack cast that accepts the filmmakers's invitation to do some real acting..."-- A. O. Scott, New York Times

4 stars Great action
Iron Man will go down as one of the best superhero movies of all-time. Robert Downey Jr. nails his part. I can't wait for the next one.

5 stars Stan Lee & Hugh Hefner
The best comic-to-movie superhero flick to date! It made up for spidey's third one, which put too much in the soup and ruined it - but IRONMAN bailed out marvel's tank. The prep of ironman is convincing and works up perfectly to set the stage for the 'story cruise'. There's a couple of 'hoakey' parts when the characters slam themselves in garages and falling to earth but that drifts off into the reality of ice-packs and lacerations. One of the highlights is STAN LEE as hugh hefner! BAMmGRAPHICS and illustrationISM thinks you should come downstairs to the garage (punch in bammism637A) and see IRONMAN!

5 stars THE PERFECT SUPERHERO MOVIE
HAVEN'T SEEN THIS ONE YET ? THEN MAKE SURE YOU GET THE DVD. MOVIES LIKE THIS IS WHY I LOVE GOING TO THEATERS. IRON MAN ROCKS. BATMAN IS GOOD BUT MARVEL HAS THE COOLEST HEROES AND COOLEST COMICS AND AS LONG AS MARVEL IS IN CONTROL OF HOW THESE MOVIES ARE MADE THEN THE BOX OFFICE AND HOLLYWOOD IS GOING TO BE RICH FOR MANY YEARS TO COME. DOWNEY IS GREAT AS IRON MAN. I DIDN'T THINK HE COULD PULL IT OFF BUT HE DID.AS A MATTER OF FACT IF YOU WANT ANOTHER RECOMMENDATION THEN SEE THE INCREDIBLE HULK. IT ROCKED THE HOUSE AS WELL. TEN TIMES BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE. I SAW IT TWICE. CAN'T WAIT FOR IRON MAN THOUGH. A CLASSIC IF THERE EVER WAS ONE.

To say that Christopher Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT is the best comic book adaptation does the film a bit of a disservice. It may be a Batman film, but this isn't a kid-friendly action movie full of the bams and pows of the original series. This is a pitch-black thriller with enough drama and tragedy to please even William Shakespeare, but it will certainly keep both comics fans and uninitiated audiences equally happy. THE DARK KNIGHT starts in the wake of BATMAN BEGINS: with the appearance of Batman (Christian Bale), Gotham City's criminal underworld is unnerved. They're also plagued by the new D.A., Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), who, in his quest for justice, remains above the city's corruption. Enter a new villain, the Joker (Heath Ledger), who wants to unite the criminals for a common purpose: to kill Batman. THE DARK KNIGHT is one of the most hyped movies to date, and a lesser film would be crushed under the weight of all that expectation. Some of the publicity stems from the early death of Ledger, who turns in an excellent performance. He provides moments of humor, but this Joker is terrifying, sharing more with classic villains such as Hannibal Lechter than with his comic book predecessors. Eckhart is equally good as Dent, and Maggie Gyllenhaal deserves praise for taking ...

Hailing more from the pulp-melancholic spirit of CBS's 1978-1982 Hulk television series than its 2003 predecessor did, THE INCREDIBLE HULK wordlessly tells the entire gamma ray-afflicted origin story of scientist Bruce Banner's alter-ego within its first three minutes. This credit sequence in particular evokes (albeit with some cinematic weight) the lo-fi, premise-informing quality that one would find at the onset every episode of a cultish TV show, thus making two things quite clear. First, the Edward Norton-starring INCREDIBLE HULK is not a sequel to or a remake of Ang Lee's HULK, but a reboot equipped with an alternate plot, a new dynamic, and a different set of rules. Second, it is director Louis Leterrier's (UNLEASHED, THE TRANSPORTER) express intention to deliver a tightly wound, economically paced thriller in which scenes of drama and action are not mutually exclusive. THE INCREDIBLE HULK replaces cerebral family drama with the story of a lonely, afflicted scientist who, at the start of the movie, is already in hiding, training his mind-body dichotomy. As for the Hulk that inevitably comes forth, a previously poetic weightlessness is rejected in favor of gargantuan physicality, and this time there's an equal behemoth for the not-so-jolly green giant to battle. It's akin to seeing the huge robots of TRANSFORMERS face off, only with more muscle and bone. The angst, of course, ...

Based on the Hasbro toy line that initially captivated kids in the 1980s, director Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS finds two warring bands of shape-shifting alien robots renewing their intergalactic conflict on Earth. While the Decepticons, followers of the malevolent Megatron (voiced by Hugo Weaving), strive to take over the planet, the Autobots, led by the valiant Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen), are intent on protecting humanity. When young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) discovers that his new car is really the Autobot Bumblebee (voiced by Mark Ryan), it sets the stage for a massive giant-robot showdown. A shining example of the Hollywood summer blockbuster at its best, TRANSFORMERS combines stunning CGI effects and thrilling action sequences with drama, humor, and a touch of romance. Featuring a large cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Voight, John Turturro, Anthony Anderson, and Rachael Taylor, the film is anchored by LaBeouf, who always displays an engaging Everyman charm, whether he's running from colossal robots, interacting with his well-meaning parents (hilariously played by Kevin Dunn and Julie White), or pining for his gorgeous classmate ...

The government's most wanted amnesiac super-spy returns in this thrilling third installment in the Jason Bourne franchise. THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM picks up where the THE BOURNE SUPREMACY left off, with Bourne once again racing around the globe, desperate to uncover the secrets of his identity. Having just lost his girlfriend and only companion, his search for answers is now fuelled by much more than his own self-preservation. The film kicks off with Bourne tracking down a British journalist (Paddy Considine) who he believes has valuable information about his past. He quickly discovers that the government conspiracy runs far deeper than he realized, and so begins a riveting, action-packed game of cat and mouse with the CIA. Bourne plows through the bad guys like a mini-tornado, and after some breathtaking fight sequences and several nail-biting car chases, he closes in on the truth in a climactic stand-off on the streets (and rooftops) of New York City. Joan Allen and David Strathairn are excellent as two battling CIA directors, and Julia Styles pops up for a small but important turn as Bourne's ...

Even for Pixar, this might be a first: an animated film that contains not only a fully realized world as photorealistic as it is teeming with wonder, but also the Gargantuan themes and visuals of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, the kind of stripped-down sad-clown pathos reserved for classic Buster Keaton comedies, and one of the most moving love stories in a long time. Director Andrew Stanton kicked up the visual acuity of an already-stellar Pixar Studios in 2003 with his reflective, refractive, color-shimmery realization of FINDING NEMO's oceanic world, which genuinely felt as though it spanned the entire earth. Now, with WALL-E, Stanton replaces an estranged journeyer of an apprehensively fishy disposition with a curious and love-struck robotic one, allowing the quest for eternal love to extend from a desolate, dust-covered, palpably polluted future Earth and into an even more mysterious abyss: the far reaches of outer space. With virtually no dialogue, WALL-E's neatly contained, eerily vaudevillian first act introduces the tragic robot of the title. Whirring amid dilapidated skyscrapers and equally tall compacted trash heaps, he's the last living thing on Earth (aside from a little cockroach friend). WALL-E has developed a tender and inquisitive personality doing what he was built to do--allocate and dispose of human waste--day in and day out for the past 700 years simply because no one turned ...

Harrison Ford dusts off his infamous brown fedora for another Indiana Jones film, which is once again made by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. The year is 1957, and Indy is on the run from a team of Russian spies led by a rapier-wielding Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett). The Russians want Indy to help them locate an ancient artifact that they believe can be used as the ultimate military weapon. Indy manages a narrow escape, and tries to return to his life as a professor of archaeology, but he soon bumps into a '50s greaser named Mutt (Shia LeBeouf). Mutt's mother as well as one of Indy's longtime friends have been captured somewhere in Peru. Mutt and Indy hop a plane, where they manage to track down both Mutt's mother, Marian (Karen Allen), and Professor Oxley (John Hurt), but they also find themselves surrounded by the same scheming Russians. The Russians have found the artifact they were seeking, but Indy now knows its secret and dangerous powers. With the help of Mutt, Marian, and Oxley, he races to return it to its rightful resting place. While a bit more grizzled than the last time we saw him cracking his whip, Ford still manages to bring the ...
