(1 Customer Review)
If Annie Lennox had only her time in Eurythmics to claim, she'd still be recognized as one of the greatest modern pop and soul singers. In addition however, she has enjoyed massive success as a solo artist. THE ANNIE LENNOX COLLECTION is the first compiled retrospective of this influential Scottish artist's solo hits. It features songs from DIVA, MEDUSA, BARE, SONGS OF MASS DESTRUCTION, even one from the BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA soundtrack ("Love Song for a Vampire"), along with two brand-new tracks. Even the most casual radio listener will recall "Walking on Broken Glass" and "No More I Love Yous," but the often more ambitious and angry songs from DESTRUCTION hold up just as well in contrast.
This greatest hits compilation includes 12 of Lennox's legendary solo hits as well as 2 brand new recordings, her first release of new material since her 2007 album. The collection also draws upon her first solo album, 1992's Diva, 1995's Medusa, and 2003's Bare. The set includes a CD plus DVD of music videos.Q (Magazine) (p.116) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he headspinning 'Walking On Broken Glass' is the very point where keening intelligence meets gloriously fizzy pop." Record Collector (magazine) (p.98) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[With] half dozen tracks that you'll come to afresh, including a cover of Ash's 'Shining Light'....Well worth a listen..." | | Diana Krall Quiet Nights CD (2009)
Annie Lennox Collection album
$13.35 Diana Krall's first studio outing since she and husband Elvis Costello became the proud parents of twin boys, 2009's QUIET NIGHTS finds the jazz singer/pianist turning in a serene and pleasantly subdued set. Krall breezes through a few bossa nova standards, most notably "The Girl from Ipanema" (here gender-reversed to "The Boy...") and the title track (originally "Corcovado"), both penned by the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim. QUIET NIGHTS isn't solely a Brazilian-themed outing, however, as Krall also spends plenty of time in the comfortable realm of the Great American Songbook, offering up elegant orchestral renditions of "I've Grown Accustomed to His Face" and the Bacharach/David gem "Walk On By" that benefit from her ...

A fine addition to said list.Hailing from (and how fuckin' perfect is this?) the Dirty South (Charlotte, NC, by God!), Dirty Box take rock-punk-alt and push things a bit further than all today's poseurs, while slathering on dynamic pop hooks and wink-wink humor the way you slather the Duke's mayonnaise on your midnight snack. Day-um! DB rocks so hard they're probably breaking laws in any given Southern ...
| | Skorbut Access All Areas CD (2007)
Annie Lennox Collection songs
$12.55 After a 3 year absence, Skorbut came back in 2005 with their second album "Access All Areas". It should be underlined right away that the title of the album is a good metaphor for its content. From techno-like Electro to Industrial, Old School EBM and dark atmospheric tracks, the album offers a vast variety of music without losing its focus. Skorbut (which is a german word and translates to "scurvy") once again refuse to be pushed into one specific genre and consequently continue their own way of making music. The story of Skorbut began in 1993 when Daniel Galda and Jörg Hüttner first met at the studios of "Das Ich" and immediately started to record first electronic-experimental influenced demo tracks. Both first achieved notoriety through their appearances in other bands (Jörg with "Relatives Menschsein" and "Dorsetshire", Daniel with "kAlte fArben" and as live keyboarder for "Das Ich"). Before their debut album "Log_In" hit the streets in 2001, they got support from Robert Pollich as a third member of the group. In between the release of "Log_In" and the recordings for "Access All Areas", Jörg was active in the studio with working for "EverEve" and "Dreadful Shadows". Additionally, he also contributed to the soundtracks of the blockbuster movies "Catwoman" and "The Ring 2". Skorbut has enhanced their own musical skills significantly without losing ground with their first release. "Access All Areas" is a consistent advancement of Skorbut as a group, and a more than dignified successor for "Log_In".And this is what the tracks of "Access All Areas" sound like:The hammering opener "Hypostase" is a perfect start und will get the crowds going crazy, according to DJs. Distorted drums and a phenomenal depth distinguish the second song "In Zenith", when skillful industrial elements blaze down on "Spacenight" sounds. The musical journey comes back to the dance floor with "Super Sonic". Blistering bass lines and a dark voice proclaim breaking through the soundbarrier. How would a cloned Jesus Christ find his way in today‘s times? This question is answered in the morbid melodical and ear-candy-ish "Toxic Jesus". It goes without saying for Skorbut‘s point of view that this has to end in crucifixion.Subsequently, the listener gets properly knocked over by the track "Morbid ...
