| | Gloria Trevi Una Rosa Blu CD Gloria Trevi Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Latin pop phenomenon Gloria Trevi has been going strong since the 1980s, and 2007's UNA ROSA BLU doesn't suggest any sign that she is slowing. Though the lead-off single "Psicophonia," a swirling, passionate ballad, finds Trevi leaning somewhat toward an adult contemporary sound, there is plenty of uptempo pop to be had, whether it's rock-driven ("Pruebamelo") or bright, bouncy dance-pop ("Lo Que Una Chica Por Amor Es Capaz"). Help from top-flight producers gives the album an appealing sheen, but it's Trevi's indelible vocal stamp that makes UNA ROSA BLU another winner in her discography.
La Trevi returns to the center stage of Latin pop with this deluxe edition DVD/CD set, with an album that was put together not only for the very loyal fan base who have followed her throughout her career, but also for the new fan. This set includes 20 songs, among them previously unreleased tracks, various remixes, and 4 music videos. Three legendary producers, Sergio George, Armando Avila, and Bob Benozzo collaborated on this production. Also featured is the participation of Olga Tanon on one song, forming a dynamic duo and making this the first duet of La Trevi's musical career. Celso Pina is also featured on one track. Una Rosa Blu CD music
$8.79 Based on the life of salsa legend Hector Lavoe, director Leon Ichaso's EL CANTANTE, follows the beloved Puerto Rican performer (played by Marc Anthony) as he moves to New York City, and rises through the Bronx's vibrant Latin music scene during the 1960s and '70s. Singing with popular trombonist/bandleader Willie Colon (John Ortiz), Lavoe goes on to a successful solo career, but along the way, he becomes a drug addict, sabotaging not only his music, ...
| | Christy Moore This Is The Day CD (2001) Import
Una Rosa Blu music CDs
$12.79 It's tempting to think of This Is the Day as a compromise between Christy Moore's starkly contrasting two previous records. The 2001 effort certainly takes a more traditional approach than its daring U2-esque techno Celt predecessor Traveller (1999), but the arrangements here are still far more expansive than those on the threadbare self-produced album Graffiti Tongue (1996). This record, a three-producer collaboration between Moore, Donal Lunny, and Declan Sinnott, blends soft acoustic folk instrumentation with healthy doses of atmospheric electric guitar. Ultimately, however, This Is the Day has far more in common with early-'90s projects like King Puck and Smoke and Strong Whiskey than with either of Moore's most recent albums. It recalls King Puck especially ...
| | Nebula DOS Eps CD (2002)
Una Rosa Blu songs
$10.19 DOS EPS contains remixed and remastered material from Nebula's two out-of-print EPs, SUN CREATURE and the NEBULA/LOWRIDER double-EP. This collection adds 3 new previously unreleased tracks.
Nebula is one of those bands that would have fit perfectly on a concert bill with Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, or the Stooges -- circa 1973. The power trio of Eddie Glass (vocals, guitars), Ruben Romano (drums), and Mark Abshire (bass) has quietly fused a somewhat modernized but highly distinctive '70s hard rock sound all its own. Releasing Dos EPs is a smart move, combining the very limited Sun Creature EP and the scarce Meteor City split with three additional songs that groove on raunchy guitar hooks, opaque slacker vocals, and bleed-heavy drumming. Of the unreleased material, "Long Day" pegs an infectious hard-luck guitar swagger against a catchy slippery rhythm, while "Rocket" and "Bardo Airways" scream in a straightforward attack that would make any old-school AC/DC or Judas Priest ...
| | Maria Rita CD (2004) Enhanced CD
Una Rosa Blu album
$7.35 Distant from the mass-market mentality of the United States pop music industry in more ways than one, the MPB field has been and continues to be ripe with beautiful and lively music, with Maria Rita's debut album standing tall as an exemplary document of the sort of music blossoming in America's other hemisphere. This beautiful and beautiful-sounding young lady is the daughter of one of Brazil's most (if not the most) legendary vocalists, the late Elis Regina, and if that alone weren't enough to make her a star-in-waiting, her father is César Camargo Mariano, one of the country's top arrangers, producers, and pianists, and her namesake is Rita Lee, yet another MPB legend. Add to that a close musical partnership with Milton Nascimento, who pens "A Festa," the ear-grabbing opening track of her album, and you can see why the MPB world was eagerly awaiting her recording debut. And what an album it is, from beginning to end a joyful listening experience with no low points whatsoever and a pair of absolutely astonishing high points, the aforementioned "A Festa" and the mid-album standout "Cara Valente." These two party-starters highlight what is otherwise a collection of delicate songs of varying tempo, all of them distinct in numerous ways. What each song shares, however, is a purely acoustic, slightly jazzy musical backing and also a lyrical performance by Rita, who possesses a tender voice not unlike that of her mother as well as an emotive delivery that accentuates her vocals with a rich sense of humanity. Moreover, Rita's voice benefits from pristine production courtesy of Tom Capone, one of Brazil's ...

$13.15 Andy Hunter - Trombone Justin Wood - Alto Sax/FluteDan Loomis - Double BassDanny Fischer - DrumsHot House Magazine January 2009 issue. HOT FLASHES BY PAUL BLAIRFinally, special praise to a quartet named Spoke (reedman Justin Wood, trombonist Andy Hunter, bassist Dan Loomis and drummer Danny Fischer) whose self-produced and self-titled album is one of the most inventive we've heard all year. All About Jazz Review. Spoke | Self Published (2009)By J HunterIn his liner notes to Spoke's self-titled debut disc, Matthew Lima wrote that this Brooklyn-based quartet is "constantly refining the art of the compromise... not into a concession or lowering of standards, but an intermediate between different things." He's half right: There are no concessions whatsoever on Spoke; however, the differences are what it's all about. The thought that went into the set's twelve pieces is literally mind-bending. Classical music isn't just one of the musical sub-cultures Spoke visits on this long strange trip. There's a symphonic quality to the construction of almost every piece: Middle sections aren't just slight deviations from the initial melody—they're freestanding, differentiated chapters in a series of detailed stories that are anything but traditional.Dan Loomis' bass leaps out of the gate on "Pisces," accompanied by the steely drums of Danny Fischer. Andy Hunter's yawning trombone picks up Loomis' opening figure, and then Justin Wood's tight alto sax introduces the melody. Without pause, the two disparate instruments merge into a harmony not readily available on the open market. As a second groove is found, Wood unleashes a spark-spewing solo that showcases the alto's best qualities. Hunter eventually answers with a single note that twirls up and out of sight, and then launches into a muscular solo of his own while Fischer infuses timbales into the proceedings."Pisces" is the second-most uncomplicated track on Spoke. The other is a cover of the Chinese pop hit "Wo Yao de XingFu," and the group's tender approach to this piece says "love song" in any language. Everything else is songs within songs, each telling its own detailed story. "On Returns" puts all four players on separate islands, free-styling away, and then the islands merge into a musical peninsula that evokes images of bullfighters and picadors. "Blabber Battle" and "Ballad of Slow Onset ...
