| | Halford III: Winter Songs CD (2009) Special Edition; Digipak
Immortal CD music
$13.75 At first glance, Halford's entry into the crowded holiday market looks like a parody. Heavy metal and Christmas make for strange bedfellows, and WINTER SONGS' pastoral cover art -- which depicts Rob Halford staring wistfully (with a goatee and shades) into a soft, snowy pine forest -- screams Spinal Tap. That said, the Judas Priest frontman approaches yuletide ...
| | Lita Ford Wicked Wonderland CD (2009) Bonus Tracks
Immortal music CDs
$14.19 Though former Runaways guitarist Lita Ford has been absent from the recording industry since 1997, she hasn't exactly been idle. After releasing Kiss Me Deadly, her final album after a string of them in the '80s and '90s, the music scene -- and the industry with it -- changed, and alternative ruled the airwaves. Ford got married to Jim Gillette, former vocalist with hair metal rockers Nitro, and started a family. In addition, she relocated to the Caribbean. Wicked Wonderland is uncharacteristic of the pop-metal she released a decade ago. It's an in-your-face metal record, but ultimately it's a very studied and calculated 21st century pop-metal record. It's an album with explicit sexual content, examining S&M, bondage, power exchanges, and all manner of kink and crave in lyrics, words, and sleeve images. Ford wrote all of these songs with her co-producers Greg Hampton and Gillette. Gillette is also either a duet partner or backing vocalist on every track here. Hampton handles bass, keyboard, and other sonic duties, and there are a pair of drummers who alternate in Chris Collier and Stet Howland. The album's first single (and longest track), "Bed," was released exclusively to Stockroom.com, one of the leading suppliers of S&M and bondage gear on the internet. Ford claims that she and her husband have ...
| | Metallica - Live SH.T: Binge & Purge DVDs (1993)
Immortal songs
$40.95 Rock is all about excess, and this Metallica boxed set embodies that principle. For die-hard fans of the metal band (or those soon to be converts), this mammoth collection features more than eight hours of concert footage. The three audio CDs span five days' worth of shows in Mexico City in 1993. Fans can watch a pair of classic shows from 1989 and 1992 on the two volumes of concert footage. The second volume also features a 72-page book in its ...
| | Kiss Lick It Up CD (1983) Remastered
Immortal album
$6.49 Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio (Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
September 18, 1983 is a day that will go down in Kisstory. It was then that Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and replacement members Vinnie Vincent and Eric Carr took off their signature makeup and revealed themselves on MTV. LICK IT UP was released, and a new chapter unfolded.
Using the same production team as CREATURES OF THE NIGHT, Michael James Jackson, Simmons and Stanley came up with the same bone crunching sound as CREATURES, but with a slightly more polished feel. "Exciter" kicks off the album with a machine gun riff, which leads into Gene Simmons proclaiming he's "Not For The Innocent". The title track was a modest hit in the U.S., faired better in the U.K. and made for quite an entertaining video. ...
| | Jesu Opiate Sun CD (2009) Digipak; Extended Play
Immortal CD music
$8.49 Whether or not it is his intention, Justin Broadrick's Jesu project continues to move into ever more song-oriented material, while never lessening the volume or the sheer melodic thud of his attack. Opiate Sun is released on Mark Kozelek's Cabo Verde imprint. Initially, it was conceived as the first of a projected two-part EP idea: Broadrick originally wanted each EP to feature a collaboration between his live (Dave Cochrane and Phil Petrocelli) and studio (Ted Parsons and Diarmuid Dalton) bands. In the end, Broadrick rejected the idea and plays everything here himself and combines all four songs on one release. Does that narrow the possibilities for the final product? Yes, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. These songs cover just under 26 minutes in length. The opener, "Losing Streak," comes dangerously close to a cough syrup-intoxicated Swervedriver -- with Broadrick's way up-front vocal sounding not unlike that of ...

$28.39 | | Simon & Garfunkel Sounds Of Silence CD (1966) Import
Immortal CD music
$36.09 Though it was their second album, SOUNDS OF SILENCE was the record that introduced Simon & Garfunkel to the world at large. When the original, acoustic version of the title tune (included on the debut album) was given a rock sheen here, courtesy of a hastily added electric backing track, folk-rock was invented, and Paul and Art were catapulted to superstardom. The songs here follow in that electrified direction for the most part, with the widescreen irony of "Blessed" buoyed by plangent guitar and drums, and the paranoid "Somewhere They Can't Find Me" pushed to neurotic extremes by an insistent rhythm section.
SOUNDS OF SILENCE marked the introduction proper of Simon as sensitive song poet: intellectual, well-read, politely iconoclastic, self-consciously poetic--the perfect '60s folk-pop idol. Fortunately, Simon's melodic and lyrical prowess and ...
| | Behemoth Evangelion CDs (2009) With DVD; Digipak
Immortal music CDs
$12.15 Behemoth is one of the most ferocious-sounding metal bands on Earth. Vocalist/guitarist Nergal roars less like Cookie Monster and more like a blast furnace; his voice pours from the speakers and blows your hair back. Since 2000's THELEMA.6, the band has been on an unbelievable hot streak, releasing one marathon of unrelenting punishment after another. The nine songs on EVANGELION don't represent any stylistic left turns for Behemoth. The brutal riffing, avalanches of drums, and firestorm vocals are all present throughout, as are Nergal's lyrics, which are much more sophisticated ...
