| | Merle Haggard 20 Hits Vol. 2 CD Merle Haggard Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
Like its predecessor, 20 HITS VOL. 2 does not contain the original versions of Merle Haggard's classic recordings, but instead features Hag's re-recordings of such gems as "Silver Wings" and "Today I Started Loving You Again." This might surprise those expecting a conventional hits package, but Haggard's voice and style have matured so much since the original recordings that it's a joy to hear them revisited and reinterpreted by an artist who truly just keeps getting more compelling as he gets older. 20 Hits Vol. 2 Music Review Purchase 20 Hits Vol. 2 CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Rosanne Cash List CD (2009)
20 Hits Vol. 2 album
$11.99 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered ...

20 Hits Vol. 2 songs
$14.55 Patty Loveless' MOUNTAIN SOUL II is not a strict sequel to its 2001 predecessor. Whereas the former album was chock-full of bluegrass tunes both historical and contemporary, the sequel is a far more diverse collection that includes traditional songs, country music classics, and some new originals--and yes, there are a couple of bluegrass tunes in the mix. Loveless and her husband, ...

| | Christiana Drapkin Songs About You: Jazz Standards & New Tunes CD (2004)
20 Hits Vol. 2 CD music
$15.89 Jazz vocalist Christiana Drapkin has been performing in the New York area and on the East Coast for more than a dozen years. She is noted for her lyrical and highly personal delivery of ballads and for her abandoned yet artful scat improvisations. Christiana's singing is deeply immersed in the rich traditions of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Carmen McRae, as well as in the vocalese fireworks of Anita O'Day, Annie Ross and Eddie Jefferson. With her focus on Jazz Standards, she highlights improvisation and harmonic development, carrying on and developing the tradition of Be-Bop and musicians like Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Thelonious Monk, Lennie Tristano and Dizzy Gillespie, to name a few. "... reminiscent of the style of the great café singers of the 40s and 50s. Christiana's voice and style sets the tone for the entire musical enterprise with verve and clarity. She is a felicitous combination of Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald. Her voice is full, sweetly gentle, with an excellent range."Paulina K. Dennis, music critic, The Brooklyn PaperChristiana came to the US as a Fulbright exchange student from Germany twenty years ago, studying in New Orleans where she got her first immediate exposure to Jazz. Moving to New York provided her with her ideal artistic home, where she feels part of a vibrant local jazz scene. She studies jazz with pianist Charles Sibirsky and vocal coach Barbara Feller. She performs regularly with New York musicians, like guitarist John Merrill, bassist Murray Wall, drummer Bernice Brooks, and others. In the Washington, DC area she often partners with guitarist Mike Gellar. They have produced a mini-CD of Jazz Standards, which is available at their gigs, as a sneak preview of things to come. Her new CD "Songs About You" (her debut-CD, "Songs About You" is also ...
