| The voice of the Doobies, continuing the tradition. Great album. McDonald has one of the great voices. This album highlights his writing talents as well. Some great colaborations and gives him the opportunity to explore his vocal range. Highly recommended. By a reviewer (Canberra, ACT, Australia) This review is for a different format. |
| The Big Mac This is an absolute classic. the voice, the musicians and not a bad song on the whole CD. It makes one wonder why Macdonald can't think of anything better than covering old Motown songs these days. By V.Planjer (ntherlands) This review is for a different format. |
| Never Forget The Talent Saw Michael Live with the Doobies along time ago, his distinctive style certainly added to their longetivity. His efforts of co-writing and passionate voice characteristics really help you get involved with the meaning of the songs. To me the faster tempo tracks stand out: I Keep Forgettin, Love Lies, I Gotta Try, If Thats What It Takes. But the ballads are also an interseting mix of Michaels voice and his feelings put into words. Great to hear it again and remind me of his talent. | great grooves This is Michael's first solo record, and yes he hit hard with a smash hit "I keep forgettin'", thanks to the silky smooth drumming of the late great Jeff Porcaro. Another notable groove is the song "That's why". Legendary drummer Steve Gadd played on as well, notable grooves are "Playing by the rules" and "I gotta try".
