(5 Customer Reviews)
This DVD/CD includes a 24 page full color booklet. The CD includes 10 songs. The DVD includes 13 tracks filmed at Summer Breeze 2007. Amon Amarth: Johan Hegg (vocals); Johan Söderberg, Olavi Mikkonen (guitar); Ted Lundström (bass guitar); Fredrik Andersson (drums). The modern barbarians of Amon Amarth are dedicated to mining their native Sweden's Viking past for tales of battle glory and eternal feasting that they can build into their colossally melodic death metal. Their seventh album, TWILIGHT OF THE THUNDER GOD, makes plain its mission from the album cover, featuring the Mighty Thor wielding his mystic hammer against a giant dragon. The music itself bludgeons the listener just like that warhammer, with sturdy songs like "Guardians of Asgaard" pounding out a brutal mid-tempo beat, and "Twilight of the Thunder God" spinning a power-metal influenced web of twisting guitars and jackhammer drums. If extreme metal existed back in the days of Vikings, Sweden's Amon Amarth would undoubtedly be the musical choice of vessels sailing rough and treacherous seas. And on the seventh full-length studio effort overall by the quintet, Amon Amarth sticks closely to the same sound and approach that got them this far in the first place. But unlike their prior studio efforts, several renowned names within the metal community drop by to lend a heavy hand, including Entombed vocalist Lars-Göran Petrov on "Guardians of Asgaard." Children of Bodom guitarist Roope Latvala provides a guitar solo on the title track, while Apocalyptica is heard on "Live for the Kill." As evidenced by such ditties as "Varyags of Miklagaard" and "Tattered Banners and Bloody Flags" (how's that for two snappy song titles?!), technically demanding musicality, Godzilla-like growls, and rhythms/tempos compared to horses galloping into war are all proudly on display throughout Twilight of the Thunder God. I bet this is the type of music that YouTube's infamous Techno Viking listens to while getting ready for his next street festival dance. [A CD/DVD was also released.] ~ Greg Prato Kerrang (Magazine) (p.48) - "[E]very one of the 10 tracks here hits you like a runaway longboat and gets better with every listen." Kerrang (Magazine) (p.64) - Ranked #4 in Kerrang's Best Albums Of The Year 2008 -- "[A] strong clap of heavy metal thunder." Twilight Of The Thunder God
$16.45 This sophomore release from Alex Pangman brings back to the fore the (many forgotten) songs of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. For this outing, the songstress invites cornetist Peter Ecklund into the studio as part of her western swing aggregation, while the discs other sessions see the return of the late Dick Sudhalter on trumpet and the late Jeff Healey on guitar, among others. A jazz manouche group features an original song by Pangman written for the film “TORSOâ€, which saw her nominated for two Canadian National Jazz Awards. Inspired by the material of the artists she found on 78 rpms such as the Light Crust Doughboys, Tempo King, The Three Peppers and Russ Columbo, here Pangman’s own identity is strongly felt, with a voice that makes the music of the past “captivatingly present.â€â€œStrong and deep, Pangman's voice is well suited to the music, ...

Twilight Of The Thunder God
$8.49 Acoustic Album Of Hits + 3 New Tracks.
Godsmack: Sully (vocals); Tony (guitar, background vocals); Robbie (bass); Shannon (drums, percussion). This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players. Godsmack: Sully (vocals); Tony (guitar, background vocals); Robbie (bass); Shannon (drums, percussion). The Other Side is Godsmack's first acoustic offering. Totaling seven songs, it's not quite a full album. But fans will note its mixture old and new material, as well as the departure from Sully Erna and co.'s normal metallurgical sonic signature. The primary influence here is Alice in Chains. New track "Running Blind" is dominated by the high-low harmony sound that's become Alice in Chains' legacy, as is "Re-Align," which otherwise doesn't drift very far from Faceless' electrified version. The guitars -- and guitar solos -- are acoustic throughout Other Side, and the percussion is lighter and more refined than the normal 'Smack pummel. As for the rest of the new material, "Voices" suggests the more subdued work of the band's peers ...

Twilight Of The Thunder God
$11.45 Personnel: Jenn Helvering, Jason Dunn (vocals); Steve Wilson (guitar, percussion, programming, background vocals); Jonathan Steingard (guitar); Zach Casebolt, Zach Casebolt (violin); Justin Saunders, Justin Saunders (cello); Todd Boswell (bagpipe); Justin Benner, Justin Benner (drums). Audio Mixer: Steve Wilson. Recording information: Legion of Boom, Nashville, TN; Qaud Studios, Nashville, TN. Photographers: Caleb Kuhl; Caleb Kuhl. Hawk Nelson have made a pretty good career out of being nice guys with a penchant for huge hooks and fresh-faced emo pop with an emphasis on the pop side of things. The band's fourth album, LIVE LIFE LOUD! shows the band adding more ballads and midtempo tunes to the their repertoire, though there are still plenty of their usual uplifting rockers here. The band kick the album off on a high note as the title track and the ripping "Never Enough" burst with energy and joy. They continue to ride peppy Christian lightning on the giddily poppy "Long Ago" and the surprisingly angry "The Job" (which ends up sounding like a punk-pop version of the Replacements somehow). When they bring the energy levels way down, the band also show themselves to be pretty good mainstream pop/rock balladeers, respectable country crooners on the heartfelt, and happily worshipful bagpipers. LIVE LIFE ...
