| | John Brown's Body Amplify CD John Brown's Body Discography of CDs
AMPLIFY is the first John Brown's Body album without group founder Kevin Kinsella. In his place, vocalist and songwriter Elliott Martin takes over as the band's primary creative force. While AMPLIFY represents a move toward a poppier, more electro-groove-based direction, it is also characterized by beautiful melodies, occasionally unusual instrumentation, and dense, inventive arrangements. On AMPLIFY, Martin and John Brown's Body manage to stay true to the group's roots reggae vision while also expanding the vocabulary of the group's sound.
CD contains a bonus digicard which gives the user access to 7 additional track downloads, including tracks from the Re-Amplify remix EP.

$14.39 Listening to this disc is a vaguely disturbing experience, because this American reggae group has captured so uncannily the sound of early dancehall reggae, the kind that came out of small Jamaican recording studios in the late '70s and early '80s. Only the digitally clean production quality betrays this as a product of its decade. And hey, that's a compliment. The elastic rocksteady groove and sweet horn lines (though not the violin obbligato) of "Love Is a Fire" could have come out of Coxsone Dodd's studio in 1974, and Dodd would have been proud to release it. "This Is Not the End" wallows in a wet, reverb-heavy ambience and features an authentic "yugga-yugga-yugga-yo" chorus, then slides into an excellent dub mix. And speaking of dub, King Tubby would have killed for the flanged drum sound on "Live & Let Live." The lyrics are strictly conscious, focused exclusively on issues of love, righteousness, ...

Amplify CD music
$12.15 Roots reggae is an international phenomenon, one that's played on every continent, with greater or lesser degrees of success. New York-based John Brown's Body have been doing it well for many years now, with great harmonies and strong melodies, as on "Follow Into Shadow." Singer Elliot Martin is a strong vocalist who brings a huge presence to the disc, most evident on a track like "Resonate." But he's far from being the only focal point -- guitarist Kevin Kinsella is excellent throughout. While the band are very convincing in their roots, they haven't completely ignored the last two decades ...

$10.45 THE BLUEPRINT was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance.
"Song Cry" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Male Rap Solo Performance.
It's official. With his fifth album, aptly titled THE BLUEPRINT, Jay-Z has crowned himself the king of rap music. Laying a foundation for other MC's to follow, Jay Hova presents a lyrical masterpiece. And to make matters worse (for the competition, that is), he does so over a selection of the tightest beats (Jus Blaze, Timbaland) to come by hip-hop since fellow Brooklyn-ite Notorious B.I.G. changed the game. Jay-Z sets it off with a clear and concise statement of his purpose, "The Ruler's Back." From then on, each track dares rappers who tried to test his skills to answer back this time. There's also the cleverly worded (sort of a) love song "Girls, Girls, Girls," where Jay calls out every type of woman in the book. He limits the guest appearances to just one when he ...

Amplify CD music
$15.86 In the year since his number-one second album, EPIPHANY, the celebrated "Rappa Ternt Sanga" has all but solidified his spot as the most prolific guest hook-provider in the hip-hop/R&B world, outpacing both Lil Wayne and label boss Akon. On his bombastic third solo release, THR33 RINGZ, the Florida native does on his own what he does best on others' records, as he lets his unique vocal stylings run wild alongside an impressive guestlist of heavyhitters.
Utilizing the vocoder talk-box on virtually every track, T-Pain fluctuates between boastful posturing ("Ringleader Man"), tongue-in-cheek commentary on the trappings of the nightlife (the humorous "Chopped N Skrewed" and "It Ain't Me"), and seductive sweet nothings. On "Can't Believe It," he entices a prospective love-interest with claims that he "could put you in a log cabin somewhere in Aspen" or "in a mansion somewhere in Wis-canson." Kanye West, T.I., Chris Brown, Diddy, Mary J. Blige, and Ludacris are just a few of the big names on hand.
