(Jack Black) are close friends since high school who perform together in a Neil Diamond cover band. Enter Darren's shrewd psychologist bride-to-be Judith (Amanda Peet, THE WHOLE NINE YARDS), who constantly schemes to keep Darren from hanging out with his old slacker buddies. Anxious to hold onto their right to spend time with Darren, Wayne and J.D. decide that they must stop at nothing to prevent the wedding from taking place and reunite Darren with his first love--who is about to become a nun! Dennis Dugan's (HAPPY GILMORE) comedy attempts to harness the white-hot comedic talents of Zahn and Black, throwing in an inspirational appearance from Neil Diamond himself, to tell a hilarious tale of undying friendship. SAVING SILVERMAN is Neil Diamond's second fiction feature-film screen appearance; he starred in the 1980 remake of THE JAZZ SINGER. SAVING SILVERMAN director Dennis Dugan told the New York Times, "Neil's first fear was that we were going to make fun of him....Slowly but surely, though, once he was involved in the work process, he got on board. And when he finally got up there, he just had the time of his life.."
The cast rehearsed for one week in Los Angeles and one week in Vancouver before shooting began.
Director Dennis Dugan makes a cameo as the referee. He wrote in his diary, "The apparatus for the spear in my chest was so tight I think I cracked a rib. I am sticking to directing." The next day he wrote, "My ribs still hurt. I'd sue who is responsible, but that's me."
Dugan told the Movies magazine, "When you get a theater full of people cracking up, who cares about the Oscars? You think the movie up, cast it, direct it and edit it, and from that you get a whole group of people enjoying themselves--there's nothing better." Saving Silverman DVD 2 Best Friends + 1 Girlfriend = WAR! Darren Silverman (Jason Biggs), Wayne Lefessier (Steve Zahn) and J.D. McNugent (Jack Black) have been best friends since the fifth grade. Enter Judith (Amanda Peet), a cold-hearted beauty who digs her claws into sweet-natured Darren. She snatches him from his friends and even breaks up their cover band. J.D. and Wayne try every imaginable scheme to save Darren- and their friendship - but fail miserably. When they find out Darren has been brainwashed into marrying Judith, the dim-witted duo decide to kidnap her and reunite Darren with his long-lost love, before she becomes a nun!

Reminiscent of ALICE IN WONDERLAND and LABYRINTH, MIRRORMASK is a fantasy tale of an intelligent young girl on a journey through a magical world. It is also a visually astounding piece of filmmaking, updating the fairy-tale quest in a coming-of-age story imbued with dark beauty. Written by Neil Gaiman (SANDMAN) and directed by frequent collaborator and illustrator Dave McKean, the film mixes live action and animation, and manages to keep the graphic novelists' aesthetic largely intact: the frames are full of weirdly-skewed perspectives, foggy patches, and mismatched textures that appear grandly decayed. Stephanie Leonidas plays Helena, a young girl who juggles in her father's circus, but longs for a "normal" life. With its sweet teen coupling and ardent devotion to music, NICK & NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST feels like the cinematic equivalent of a mixtape made by John Hughes and Cameron Crowe. But the film is actually directed by Peter Sollett, who earned praise for his debut feature, RAISING VICTOR VARGAS. This studio-produced comedy is a bit shinier and more polished, but it still has hints of the authenticity that made his first film so well loved. NICK & NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST centers on two New Jersey teens, newly single Nick (Michael Cera, JUNO) and his fellow music lover Norah (Kat Dennings, CHARLIE BARTLETT), who meet at Nick's band's show in New York City. Their very long night in the city is driven by two searches: one for a secret concert by their favorite band, Where's Fluffy; and a second for Norah's irresponsible and drunk friend Caroline (Ari Graynor, in what should be a star-making performance). The pair bounce through the streets of New York in Nick's Yugo and his bandmate's van, bonding over their shared love of music, while their exes threaten their new romance.
Based on a young adult novel by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, NICK & NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST makes an able leap to the screen. Dennings and Cera are likeably awkward in their tentative courtship, but much of the praise should go to music supervisor Linda Cohen and composer Mark Mothersbaugh. Cohen picks of-the-moment bands such as Vampire Weekend, Takka Takka, We Are Scientists, and Band of Horses that are sure to make the soundtrack as big a hit as the film, while Mothersbaugh perfectly complements Nick and Norah's sweet romance with his fun yet unobtrusive score.
