GIOVANNI RÍOS ¡ BIOGRAFIA ! nació en un hogar humilde de la República Dominicana. Cuando tenía trece años, su familia se trasladó a Puerto Rico, donde cursó sus estudios académicos en un colegio cristiano. Desde muy temprana edad sintió gran pasión por la música de su país natal, “el merengue”, y a los diecisiete años pasó a formar parte de diversos grupos de merengue. Tenía veinte años cuando, una noche, después de tocar una fiesta, tuvo un encuentro personal con el Señor Jesucristo, el cual transformó su vida a partir de ese momento; recibió a jesucristo como su Salvador personal, entregándole su corazón y su talento. Giovanni, ademas de cantar, estudió en el instituto Bíblico S.D.A en Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. Desde el inicio de su trabajo musical en 1988 hasta el momento, tiene 44álbumes (CD’S) grabados. Su ritmo contagioso y su estilo peculiar lo han convertido en el primer exponente del “merengue cristiano”. Su música ha bendecido a millares de personas en todo el mundo, llevando un mensaje de gozo, alegría, paz y amor a jóvenes, niños, adultos, presos, etc. Su ministerio ha recorrido países como Estados Unidos de América, Puerto Rico, Curazao, Aruba, República Dominicana, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, México, Honduras, Panamá, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Perú, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina ,Uruguay . Europa: España, Inglaterra, Alemania, Suiza, Soecia, Belgica, Holanda, Italia, Francia . Su ministerio ha participado en programas de la cadena de televisión Enlace TBN de Costa Rica. After an exploration away from the mainstream of salsa that would last nearly ten years, beginning with the release of 1984's Buscando Amrica, Rubn Blades fans who missed the coro-shouting, compana-banging fun of his Fania years will rejoice in Caminando. Though a contemporary release, with plenty of contemporary influence, Blades' playlist on this record is much more salsa than fusion. From the rollicking, joyful title cut, to the slinky, trombone-driven Coln-esque "Prohibido Olvidar," the Rubn Blades made famous in the dancehalls is back, if but for a short time. The production on Caminando is unique to other Blades productions. The treatment of his voice has a hollow, retro quality that is curious and yet charming. The band, comprised mostly of his recent Seis del Solar cohorts, Ralph Irizarry, Robby Ameen, Oscar Hernandez, Eddy Montalvo, and others, sounds warm and classic.
