| | Devin The Dude Landing Gear CD Devin The Dude Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
After a decade signed to the renowned Texas-based label Rap-A-Lot Records, Devin the Dude breaks out--releasing his fifth studio LP, LANDING GEAR on New York indie label Razor & Tie. As ever, the indelible Dirty South lyricist is just doing his thing, working his trademark laidback, high-as-hell flow through a slew of entertaining and accessible verses. Thankfully, the Dude's interests haven't changed much since 2007's WAITING TO INHALE as virtually every track is centered on weed-smoking, boozing, skirt-chasing, or all three. Devin tries his hand at Spanish-language flows as he sloppily pays homage to the female form on "El Grande Nalgas" and Snoop drops by for the funky misogynist anthem "I Don't Chase `Em."Spin (p.90) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "As a rapper, he veers between explicit boasts and self-deprecating wisecracks in a matter-of-fact flow that serves as a pointed contrast to the syrupy coo that he employs when singing his hooks." XXL (Magazine) (p.121) - "His soulful, sexed-up vocals and feel-good lyrics have made him a definitive fan favorite. On his latest, LANDING GEAR, Devin does what he does best, mixing raunchy love songs with laughable narratives." Landing Gear album
$14.29 Making good on the "dude" part of his name, the good-natured rapper Devin the Dude eases through a fun and relaxed set of songs on TO THA X-TREME. A laid-back vibe (at least partially due to some serious smoke inhalation) pervades the album, making it a welcome change of pace from more gruff, heavier hip-hop. Devin hilariously introduces the disc on "Devin's Medley," and then slides into the smooth, electronic-tinged title track. Other highlights include the dreamy "Right Now," which ...

| | Scarface Emeritus CD (2008)
Landing Gear songs
$15.65 A year after his stellar eighth LP, M.A.D.E., the Houston O.G. is back for his purported swan song, appropriately titled EMERITUS. Controversy often makes for compelling hip-hop so Scarface does well to let Rap-A-Lot chief J Prince set things off by detailing his legal troubles, the snitches involved, and an alleged conspiracy against the H-Town businessman on the album's intro. From there, `Face sends sniper shots at rival Lil Troy ("High Powered"), examines the Iraq War and recession from a ghetto point of view ("Can't Get Right"), and recounts wrong-road-taken ghetto tales ("Still Here"). ...

$11.59 The name of Underminded's sophomore effort, Eleven: Eleven, was inspired by a series of coincidences experienced by bandmembers surrounding that number. This, in turn, sparked their collective curiosity in exploring the nature of palindromes in general, and seems to have infiltrated their songwriting process itself, though not to the point ...

| | Electric Frankenstein Listen Up, Baby! CD (1998)
Landing Gear album
$11.19 This features the complete original EP plus singles and previously released tracks.
Considered by many Electric Frankenstein aficionados to be the definitive statement from the band, Listen Up Baby! was out-of-print after the demise of Man's Ruin records until TKO came along and not only reissued the EP, but fleshed out the original six tracks to a full-length. Technically, the material was culled from the split disc the band did with the Hookers in 1998; it has the same songs in the same order as on the original EP. The disc marked a return to the fold for original vocalist Steve Miller, and this lent a renewed enthusiasm to the band's usual, upbeat Ramones-meets-Heartbreakers-meets-Kiss couldn't-have-originated-anywhere-but-New-York retro-punk, and while a lot of the band's material does tend to sound similar, you could do a lot worse than start your Electric Frankenstein collection with this set. ~ Brian O'Neill

Technically, the material was culled from the split disc the band did with Hookers in 1998; it's the same songs and order as on the original EP, but it adds two extra tracks, "Rocket in My Veins" and "You're So Fake" (both also from a 7" single). Additionally, "The Perfect Crime" and "Nail It Down," which were originally released as a Sub Pop single, and the Rubinoos' "Rock N' Roll Is Dead," culled from a compilation, join two previously unreleased tracks, "Final ...
