| | Anthrax Among The Living CDs (1987) With DVD; Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Orphans
$21.94 When Anthrax released AMONG THE LIVING in 1987, the band was a part of a then-burgeoning heavy metal sub-genre called speed or thrash metal. This was an inversion of glam metal. The band members wore worn-out jeans and T-shirts, their long hair was hairspray-free, and not a smudge of make-up was applied to their unsightly mugs. Their music was dense, borrowing speed from punk and hardcore and mammoth guitar riffing from metal, and featured thought-provoking lyrics. AMONG THE LIVING not only served as Anthrax's commercial breakthrough, but (along with seminal releases by Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer) the album brought this new musical form to the forefront.
The members of Anthrax were a bunch of comic-book-reading, jam-wearing heavy metal fans from NYC, and the music reflects the lifestyle. The band based it's U.K. Top-30 hit single "I ...

| | Papa Wemba Molokai CD (1998)
Orphans
$12.25 This nice album of vocal work from the Congolese superstar Papa Wemba harks back to his childhood in Matongue (nicknamed Molokai by some of the locals). Wemba shows off some nice work with his voice soaring over the textures created by his band and backup vocalists. Moreover, on the initial track, "Excuse Me," he makes his a cappella debut, without the security blanket of light instrumental work that normally accompanies him. This security blanket really shines through most often, however, as synthesizers mix with guitars and percussion to create a seamless texture of sound to back up Wemba's vocals all the way. This texture of sound can at time drop to the level of complicated elevator music, but in general holds itself above the usual standards for an accompanying band, with tight arrangements but soft wave fronts. The music can be relatively quick in tempo, but will ...
| | Black Days Down Beyond The Threshold CD (2008)
Orphans
$10.65 It's safe to say that Black Days Down, a quickly up and coming hard-rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, is becoming a force to reckon with throughout the Mid West.Black Days Down is a four piece combining the talents of Brad Whelan, with his grungy vocals and dark, visceral lyrics, Andy Reyerson rocking a vast array of hard-hitting guitar lines, Kyle Glidden holding down the low-end on bass, and Matt Burke slamming the sh*t out of the drums. All of them came together from different locations throughout the U.S. (New Jersey, Iowa, Minnesota and Michigan, respectively) while attending a Minnesota recording school, and haven’t looked back since stepping onto the rock scene. Each of the members brings a variety of musical influences and talents that have quickly evolved into one vision, and Black Days Down is starting to turn a lot of heads with their music, capturing the attention of many influential industry people based off of their live show, reputation, and their new, first full-lenght album titled “Beyond the ...
