| | Marillion Marbles CD Marillion Discography of CDs
Marillion's 2004 album, MARBLES, is a quintessential example of how far the long-lived British band had come from their beginnings as a neo-prog outfit led by the whimsically named singer Fish. Steve Hogarth (who replaced Fish in the mid-'80s) helped Marillion evolve into more than a gang of Genesis-fanciers over the years. MARBLES incorporates the influences of the Beatles, contemporary Britpop, and even a bit of jazz, creating a sleek, sophisticated sound that's no prog-rock rehash but can still safely be termed art-rock in the literal sense.
As the many thousands of fans who regularly flock to see the band live or buy their records are all too aware, there really is no other band like Marillion. Refusing to compromise their music by bowing to marketing pressures, focus groups or record labels seeking a chart-busting single, Marillion have pressed on to create their own unmistakable and unique music whilst amassing a huge 'underground' following around the world. If you haven't heard them before, listen up...Whatever you're expecting, this band just keeps growing and changing. Their 2004 CD 'Marbles' is a creative milestone of atmospheric and stirring songs. Intense, deep-seated and musically multilateral - you'll either 'get it' or you won't. The choice is yours.
Audio Mixers: Dave Meegan; Michael Hunter.

Marbles album
$8.59 There's a breed of (post-1980s) bands with the same degree of grand rock experimentalism as Pink Floyd and Yes, who simultaneously adhere to the concept of concise songwriting. Porcupine Tree is one such band--their sound is a balance of lush ambient textures, charming vocal harmonies, rock & roll directness, and acoustically- and electronically-generated sounds. Their debut IN ABSENTIA shows all these elements in place, rich with the likely possibility of them becoming a contemporary counterpart to Pink Floyd.
Hailed by Billboard as 'cinematic...simple gorgeous', Porcupine Tree are unquestionably one of the UK's most inspired and inventive rock groups. In Absentia is their eagerly anticipated Lava Records debut. Digipak. 2002.
Recorded at Avatar Studio, New York, New York between March & April 2002.
Porcupine Tree: Richard Barbieri, Colin Edwin, Gavin Harrison, Steven Wilson.
Personnel: John Wesley (guitar, background vocals); Julian Leaper, Perry Mason, Warren Zielinski, Mark Berrow, Katherine Shave, Dave Woodcock, Rebecca Hirsch, Paul Willey, Ben Cruft, Boguslaw Kostecki, Rita Manning, Everton Nelson, Johnathan ...
| | Onslaught In Search Of Sanity CD (1989) Reissue; Remastered
Marbles CD music
$10.95 The third Onslaught album to be released on as many labels, In Search of Sanity also featured the band's third vocalist, former Grim Reaper screamer Steve Grimmett. Not that the experienced Grimmett manages to lend any more personality to the band's predictable metal arsenal. "Shellshock" and the title track are competent, if rather long, examples of the band's unbearably average classic/thrash metal hybrid. The blunt riffing of "Blood Upon the Ice" and "Power Play" display a noticeable Exodus crunch and "Welcome to Dying" (clocking in at an absurd 12 minutes) sounds like a Metal Church outtake. Surprises? Well, they do knock out a thrashy take on AC/DC's "Let There Be Rock," but the results are interesting at best. And opener "Asylum" is the kind of generic not-as-creepy-as-you-think instrumental that gives metal a bad name. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

| | Marillion Happiness Is The Road: Essence Vol. 1 CD (2008)
Marbles songs
$10.05 The band that ushered in the British neo-prog wave in the 1980s, Marillion has proved itself to be a true survivor. Still going strong in 2008, the band is as ambitious as ever, releasing their latest batch of tunes, HAPPINESS IS THE ROAD, as two separate volumes. Where its sister album, THE HARD SHOULDER, is a more visceral, rocking effort, the first volume, ESSENCE, is a lush, atmospheric affair, somewhat reminiscent of latter-day (post-Roger Waters) Pink Floyd, but with a more contemporary flavor that neatly dodges retro cliches.
Marillion's 15th album is actually double album split into two separate CDs. 'Happiness is the Road Volume One' is subtitled 'Essence' and contains all new material from one of the most loved and passionate bands in the world. A new creative streak of writing and producing music was captured in the studio and fans will not be disappointed. Pushing the boundaries of what a 'typical' Marillion CD is supposed to sound like as well as keeping the magic that makes them Marillion. Amazing. Volume Two of 'Happiness ...
| | Arena Immortal CD (2000)
Marbles album
$14.29 A fine concept album, this one has many great prog elements, touching on the styles of many other bands, most notably Pink Floyd and Marillion. The Marillion sounds are natural, since this band was formed by former Marillo Mick Pointer along with Pendragon's Clive Nolan. The group also includes Rob Sowden, John Mitchell, and Ian Salmon. The music also takes on metallic themes at times, and it really culminates in the epic "Moviedrome." The conceptual themes of this album are carried along by recurring lyrical ...

Marbles music CDs
$12.15 We called it “The Long Way” because it's a phrase from Tom's song “Long Way We Met". But we also called it “The Long Way” because we sort of took the long way around making it. We started recording the CD in May 2005, and we finished it in May 2008. Along the way, Evan and Meredith left the band, Erik temporarily moved to Minneapolis, and Cameron absconded to Portland with the whole work in progress. (He brought it back.) After three years, we still like it!So what's it sound like? Here are some attempts:• Three singer-songwriters wrapped in a rock band.• Muscular contemporary folk-pop.• Acoustic heart, electric soul.• Secretly classic rock.• Power folk.We play acoustic and electric instruments. We sing a lot of harmonies. We're proud of little details like the ukelele Tom played just once on the album. We played real drums and real guitars and an authentic Fender Rhodes and a Hammond B3. We arranged the songs in an order we think you'll like listening to, as if you aren't going to put all the tracks on your iPod and put them on shuffle play. We like Ry Cooder and the Rolling Stones, Steve Earle and Steely Dan. We ...
