In terms of sonic fingerprints, 2003's SKULL RING is as close as solo Iggy Pop had come to the classic Stooges sound since the `70s. By this time, Iggy had reunited with the surviving Stooges, who back him on four cuts. Accordingly, those tracks are full of raw, punky fervor, but so are most of the other cuts here. In addition to his regular (non-Stooges) band, Iggy is backed variously by Green Day and Sum 41, who add a fresh punch to the old master's rock & roll drive. Peaches joins in for a couple of duets as well, which turn out to be some of the rawest, most agreeably unhinged moments on the album. SKULL RING would be Iggy's last solo release for some time, as he would soon launch himself into a full-scale Stooges reunion project.

Never one to tread the expected path, Lucinda Williams followed her big breakthrough album, CAR WHEELS ON A GRAVEL ROAD, with a pair of low-key records full of sad, quiet, fragile songs (interrupted by the occasional barn-burner). LIVE @ THE FILLMORE concentrates heavily on those latter two releases, unleashing all the intense, burning emotions that lay at their core, making plain the inherent frisson lurking below the surface of such ostensibly laconic tunes as "Lonely Girls" and "Righteously." Meanwhile, songs that already had plenty of bite in their studio versions are pumped up to an even more electrifying, visceral level (a bold, crunching "Changed the Locks;" the roaring, bluesy "Joy"). The debt Williams and her band owe to Neil Young & Crazy Horse is illuminated on "Are You Down," and, elsewhere, a spoken intro finds the singer laying bare her affection for ZZ Top. Clearly, revelations of all kinds abound on this double-disc concert document.

Freddie Tate was born in Brookville, Mississippi. When he was eight years old he moved to Los Angeles California, and lived with his Aunt. While attending high school he begin singing in Talent Shows, and Church Choirs. Freddie later formed a vocal group called the Iridescents. He performed on shows with groups such as The Olympics, The Elgins, Ricardo King, Alvin Robinson, and Brenda Holloway. When Freddie was in his early twenties he met Jessie Hill, who had hits records such as: Ooo Poo Be Doo, Whip it on me, and Prtetty Baby. He later started singing background for artists such as Bobby Day, Leslie Gore, and a host of others. Freddie later signed and recorded several songs with an independent Record Label called Soul Staff Records in Compton California. Soul Staff Records was owned by Johnny Pope Jr. Currently Freddie Tate is recording a new C D called: “Freddie Tate’s been here all the time”.This C D is arranged and produced by Hense Powell, and is released on his Label hpmusicprod.
