The F-Word follows radio DJ Joe Pace, who is being forced of the air after racking up $1 million in unpaid indecency fines. For his final show, Joe takes to the streets of New York to cover the protests around the Republican National Convention, discovering that the city's politics are as diverse as its residents. Combining fictional scenes set among actual protests with documentary footage of real people, director Jed Weintrob (On_Line), weaves a seamless narrative about America's struggle to find the balance between preserving national security and protecting free speech. Before DJ Joe Pace was forced off the air for $1 million-worth of unpaid indecency fines, he covered New York's protests of the Republican National Convention and resulting incarcerations. THE F WORD is an illuminating look at how difficult it is to balance national security and free speech. $10.25 Sturgess has the voice, charm, and good looks to fill Shea Stadium with hordes of screaming young women. As Jude, he's earnest and certainly capable of carrying the film. Wood capably balances Lucy's naiveté and knowledge, easily moving between her love for Jude and her passion for her cause. Though the performances are strong, it's Taymor's gifted direction that makes ACROSS THE UNIVERSE so fascinating to watch. As in FRIDA and Broadway's THE LION KING, she proves herself an artist with creativity few can match. Director of photography Bruno Delbonnel also deserves praise for his contribution to the striking visuals. He has worked with Jean-Pierre Jeunet on AMELIE and A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT, and he brings the same sense of romance and whimsy to this unique musical.

$9.69 FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS is a whirlwind of a movie, a wacky, drug-laden story backed by a fist-pumping rock & roll soundtrack featuring everything from Wayne Newton and Tom Jones to Combustible Edison and Dead Kennedys. Journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) heads to Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, bringing along his Samoan lawyer, Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro), in this furious adaptation of the book by Hunter S. Thompson. It is 1971, and Duke and Gonzo are on their way to Sin City with a frightened hitchhiker (a nearly unrecognizable Tobey Maguire) and a trunkful of drugs, which they ingest nonstop. Depp is terrific as Duke, Thompson's alter ego, and Del Toro is a riot as the crazy lawyer. To perfect ...

$22.55 Based on the true story of the first female quarterback to play in a Pop Warner football game, THE LONGSHOTS is an inspiring underdog story of personal triumph and small-town values. The film opens in down-on-its-luck Minden, Illinois, where 11-year-old Jasmine Plummer (Keke Palmer) copes with the pain of an absentee father and her classmates' constant antagonism. Jasmine's fortunes begin to change with the emergence of her uncle, Curtis (Ice Cube). Once a rising football star but now out of work, Curtis dreams of escaping Minden for the sunny promise of Miami. But when he sees Jasmine's gift for throwing the football, Curtis helps her overcome self-doubt and skepticism to join Minden's woeful Pop Warner team. Inspired by Jasmine's skill and toughness, and with the addition of Curtis as a coach, the team earns a spot in the Pop Warner Super Bowl in Miami. But as the national media swoop in to cover the team's story, Jasmine and Curtis come face-to-face with their biggest obstacle: the reappearance of Jasmine's father. Will Curtis and Jasmine lead the team to glory, or will Jasmine's father once again tear ...

$23.95 In the tradition of LEAN ON ME and DANGEROUS MINDS comes COACH CARTER, an inspirational drama starring Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson portrays real-life figure Ken Carter, who graduated from California's Richmond High only to return there years later, in 1999, and take over as head coach of the boys' basketball team. Unfortunately, the troubled school he remembered as a teenager is an even more insufferable place in his adulthood. Determined to make a change in his players' lives, Carter makes each young man sign a contract that ensures he will maintain a 2.3 GPA, attend every class, and wear a jacket and tie on game day. Of course, the players reject the contract at first, but when they realize that they don't have any other choice, they give in. And when it appears that their tough-as-nails coach is actually turning them into winners on the court, ...

F Word review
$42.91 This frank--and frankly hilarious--Canadian indie certainly lives up to its risqué title, but there's more going on in than just sex in this debut from writer/director Martin Gero. Though the filmmaker has plenty of experience from his work on sci-fi favorite STARGATE: ATLANTIS, this comedy presents a reality-based look at relationships in the real world. YPF follows one night in the lives of four couples and one threesome. There's a pair on their first date, with a British bad boy (Callum Blue) trying to seduce his young coworker (Diora Baird). Meanwhile, a longtime couple (Kristin Booth and Josh Dean) attempt drastic measures to drag themselves out of their sexual rut. Though Mia (Sonja Bennett) and Eric (Josh Cooke) have ended their relationship, they try to reconnect on a physical level, but some old feelings resurface. Two close friends (Carly of POPULAR fame and writer Aaron Abrams) decide to add a new dimension to their relationship, but it turns out that there may be some emotions hidden beneath their buddy-buddy interaction. And finally, there's the awkward contact between two roommates at war (Peter Oldring and Ennis Esmer) who can only agree ...
